1 One of those days, as he was teaching the people in the temple, and publishing the good tidings, the chief priests, and the scribes, with the elders, came upon him,
1 Certo dia, quando Jesus estava ensinando o povo no templo e pregando as boas novas, chegaram-se a ele os chefes dos sacerdotes, juntamente com os mestres da lei e os líderes religiosos,
2 saying, Tell us by what authority you do these things; or who is he that empowered you?
2 e lhe perguntaram: "Com que autoridade estás fazendo estas coisas? Quem te deu esta autoridade? "
3 He answering, said to them, I also have a question to put to you. Tell me, then,
3 Ele respondeu: "Eu também lhes farei uma pergunta: Digam-me:
4 Was the commission which John had to immerse, from heaven, or from men?
4 O batismo de João era do céu, ou dos homens? "
5 But they reasoned thus among themselves, If we say, From heaven, he will reply, Why, then, did you not believe him?
5 Eles discutiam entre si, dizendo: "Se dissermos: ‘do céu’, ele perguntará: ‘Então por que vocês não creram nele? ’
6 And if we say, From men, all the people will stone us; for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.
6 Mas se dissermos: ‘dos homens’, todo o povo nos apedrejará, porque convencidos estão de que João era um profeta".
7 They therefore answered, that they could not tell whence.
7 Assim, responderam: "Não sabemos de onde era".
8 Jesus replied, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.
8 Disse então Jesus: "Tampouco lhes direi com que autoridade estou fazendo estas coisas".
9 Then he spoke to the people this parable: A man planted a vineyard, and farmed it out, and having traveled, continued long abroad.
9 Então Jesus passou a contar ao povo esta parábola: "Certo homem plantou uma vinha, arrendou-a a alguns lavradores e ausentou-se por longo tempo.
10 The season being come, he sent a servant to the husbandmen, to receive of the produce of the vineyard; but they beat him, and sent him back empty.
10 Na época da colheita, ele enviou um servo aos lavradores, para que lhe entregassem parte do fruto da vinha. Mas os lavradores o espancaram e o mandaram embora de mãos vazias.
11 Afterward, he sent another servant, whom they, having beaten, and used shamefully, also sent away empty.
11 Ele mandou outro servo, mas a esse também espancaram e o trataram de maneira humilhante, mandando-o embora de mãos vazias.
12 He afterward dispatched a third to them. Him, likewise, they wounded and drove away.
12 Enviou ainda um terceiro, e eles o feriram e o expulsaram da vinha.
13 Then the proprietor of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; they will surely reverence him, when they see him.
13 "Então o proprietário da vinha disse: ‘Que farei? Mandarei meu filho amado; quem sabe o respeitarão’.
14 But when then husbandmen saw him, they reasoned thus among themselves, This is the heir, come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be our own.
14 "Mas quando os lavradores o viram, combinaram entre si dizendo: ‘Este é o herdeiro. Vamos matá-lo, e a herança será nossa’.
15 And having thrust him out of the vineyard, they killed him. What, therefore, will the proprietor of the vineyard do to them?
15 Assim, lançaram-no fora da vinha e o mataram. "O que lhes fará então o dono da vinha?
16 He will come and destroy those husbandmen, and give the vineyard to others. And some of his hearers said, God forbid.
16 Virá, matará aqueles lavradores e dará a vinha a outros". Quando o povo ouviu isso, disse: "Que isso nunca aconteça! "
17 «Jesus, looking on them, said, What, then, means that expression of scripture,» 'A stone which the builders rejected, is made the head of the corner.'
17 Jesus olhou fixamente para eles e perguntou: "Então, qual é o significado do que está escrito? ‘A pedra que os construtores rejeitaram tornou-se a pedra angular’.
18 «Whosoever shall fall upon that stone, shall be bruised; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will crush him to pieces?»
18 Todo o que cair sobre esta pedra será despedaçado, e aquele sobre quem ela cair será reduzido a pó".
19 At that time, the chief priests and the scribes, knowing that he had spoken this parable against them, would have laid hands on him, but feared the people.
19 Os mestres da lei e os chefes dos sacerdotes procuravam uma forma de prendê-lo imediatamente, pois perceberam que era contra eles que ele havia contado essa parábola. Todavia tinham medo do povo.
20 And they watched him, and set spies upon him, instructing them to personate conscientious men, and surprise him in his words, that they might deliver him to the power and authority of the procurator.
20 Pondo-se a vigiá-lo, eles mandaram espiões, que se fingiam justos, para apanhar Jesus em alguma coisa que ele dissesse, de forma que o pudessem entregar ao poder e à autoridade do governador.
21 These accosted him with this question, Rabbi, we know that you speak and teach uprightly, and that, without respect of persons, you faithfully recommend the way of God.
21 Assim, os espiões lhe perguntaram: "Mestre, sabemos que falas e ensinas o que é correto, e que não mostras parcialidade, mas ensinas o caminho de Deus conforme a verdade.
22 Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Cesar, or not?
22 É certo pagar imposto a César ou não? "
23 He perceiving their subtlety, answered,
23 Ele percebeu a astúcia deles e lhes disse:
24 Why would you entangle me? Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription has it? They answered, Cesar's.
24 "Mostrem-me um denário. De quem é a imagem e a inscrição que há nele? "
25 He replied, Render, therefore, to Cesar, that which is Cesar's, and to God, that which is God's.
25 "De César", responderam eles. Ele lhes disse: "Portanto, dêem a César o que é de César, e a Deus o que é de Deus".
26 Thus they could not surprise him in his discourses before the people; wherefore, admiring his answer, they kept silence.
26 E não conseguiram apanhá-lo em nenhuma palavra diante do povo. E, admirados com a sua resposta, ficaram em silêncio.
27 Afterward, some of the Sadducees, who deny a future state, came to him
27 Alguns dos saduceus, que dizem que não há ressurreição, aproximaram-se de Jesus com a seguinte questão:
28 with this question: Rabbi, Moses has enjoined in his writings, that a man whose brother dies childless, outlived by his wife, shall marry the widow, and raise issue to his brother.
28 "Mestre", disseram eles, "Moisés nos deixou escrito que, se o irmão de um homem morrer e deixar mulher sem filhos, este deverá casar-se com a viúva e ter filhos para seu irmão.
29 Now there were seven brothers; the first of whom, having taken a wife, died childless;
29 Havia sete irmãos. O primeiro casou-se e morreu sem deixar filhos.
30 the second married the widow, and also died childless;
30 O segundo
31 the third married her, as did likewise the rest; and all seven died, leaving no children.
31 e o terceiro e depois também os outros casaram-se com ela; e morreram os sete sucessivamente, sem deixar filhos.
32 Last of all, the woman also died.
32 Finalmente morreu também a mulher.
33 To which of them, therefore, will she be wife, at the resurrection; for she had been married to all the seven?
33 Na ressurreição, de quem ela será esposa, visto que os sete foram casados com ela? "
34 Jesus answering, said to them, The people of this world marry, and are given in marriage;
34 Jesus respondeu: "Os filhos desta era casam-se e são dados em casamento,
35 but, among them who shall be honored to share in the resurrection, and the other world, there will be neither marrying nor giving in marriage;
35 mas os que forem considerados dignos de tomar parte na era que há de vir e na ressurreição dos mortos não se casarão nem serão dados em casamento,
36 for they can not die any more; because, like the angels, they are children of God, being children of the resurrection.
36 e não podem mais morrer, pois são como os anjos. São filhos de Deus, visto que são filhos da ressurreição.
37 But that the dead are raised, even Moses has suggested, calling the Lord who appeared in the bush, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
37 E que os mortos ressuscitam, já Moisés mostrou, no relato da sarça, quando ao Senhor ele chama ‘Deus de Abraão, Deus de Isaque e Deus de Jacó’.
38 Now he is not a God of the dead, but of the living; for they are all alive to him.
38 Ele não é Deus de mortos, mas de vivos, pois para ele todos vivem".
39 Then some of the scribes said to him, Rabbi, you have spoken well.
39 Alguns dos mestres da lei disseram: "Respondeste bem, Mestre! "
40 After that, they did not venture to ask him any more questions.
40 E ninguém mais ousava fazer-lhe perguntas.
41 And he said to them, Why is it affirmed that the Messiah must be a son of David?
41 Então Jesus lhes perguntou: "Como dizem que o Cristo é Filho de Davi?
42 «Yet David himself says, in the book of the Psalms,» 'The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand,'
42 "O próprio Davi afirma no Livro dos Salmos: ‘O Senhor disse ao meu Senhor: "Senta-te à minha direita
43 «till I make thy foes thy footstool.»
43 até que eu ponha os teus inimigos como estrado para os teus pés" ’.
44 As David thus calls him his Lord, how can he be David's son?
44 Portanto Davi o chama ‘Senhor’. Então, como é que ele pode ser seu filho? "
45 Then, in the audience of all the people, he said to his disciples,
45 Estando todo o povo a ouvi-lo, Jesus disse aos seus discípulos:
46 Beware of the scribes, who love to walk in robes, and affect salutations in public places, and the principal seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost places at feasts;
46 "Cuidado com os mestres da lei. Eles fazem questão de andar com roupas especiais, e gostam muito de receber saudações nas praças e de ocupar os lugares mais importantes nas sinagogas e os lugares de honra nos banquetes.
47 who devour the families of widows, and make long prayers for a disguise. These shall suffer the severest punishment.
47 Eles devoram as casas das viúvas, e, para disfarçar, fazem longas orações. Esses homens serão punidos com maior rigor! "
