1 And the men of Ephraim were called together, and went northward, and said unto Yiphthach, Wherefore didst thou pass over to fight against the children of ‘Ammon, and didst not call for us to go with thee? thy house will we burn over thee with fire.
1 E os homens de Efraim se reuniram, e seguiram em direção norte, e disseram a Jefté: Por que atravessaste para lutar contra os filhos de Amom e não nos chamaste para ir contigo? Nós queimaremos a tua casa sobre ti com fogo.
2 And Yiphthach said unto them, I and my people were greatly engaged in strife with the children of ‘Ammon; and I called you, but ye helped me not out of their hand.
2 E Jefté lhes disse: Eu e o meu povo estávamos em grande conflito com os filhos de Amom; e quando eu vos chamei, vós não me livrastes das mãos deles.
3 And when I saw that ye helped me not, I put my life in my hand, and passed over to the children of ‘Ammon, and the Lord delivered them into my hand; and why then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?
3 E quando vi que não me livraste, eu coloquei a minha vida nas minhas mãos, e atravessei contra os filhos de Amom, e o ­SENHOR os entregou na minha mão; pelo que, então, viestes até mim neste dia, para lutardes contra mim?
4 Then Yiphthach gathered together all the men of Gil’ad, and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gil’ad smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye are fugitives of Ephraim: Gil’ad is in the midst, between Ephraim and Menasseh.
4 Então Jefté reuniu todos os homens de Gileade, e lutou contra Efraim; e os homens de Gileade feriram Efraim, porque diziam: Vós, gileaditas, sois fugitivos de Efraim no meio dos efraimitas, e no meio dos manassitas.
5 And the Gil’adites seized on the passages of the Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it came to pass, when the Ephraimites who had escaped said, Let me pass over; that the men of Gil’ad said unto him, Art thou an Ephrathite? and if he said, No;
5 E os gileaditas tomaram as passagens do Jordão antes dos efraimitas; e assim foi que, quando aqueles efraimitas que haviam escapado diziam: Deixa-me atravessar; os homens de Gileade lhes diziam: És tu efraimita? E, se ele dissesse: Não;
6 Then said they unto him, Do say, Shibboleth; but when he said, Sibboleth, and was not able to pronounce it correctly, they laid hold of him and slew him on the passages of the Jordan; and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.
6 Disseram-lhe então: Diz, agora "chibolete", e ele disse "sibolete"; pois ele não conseguia formular uma pronúncia correta. Então eles o tomaram e o mataram nas passagens do Jordão; e caíram ali, naquele hora, dos eframitas, quarenta e dois mil.
7 And Yiphthach judged Israel six years; and then died Yiphthach the Gil’adite, and was buried in one of the cities of Gil’ad.
7 E Jefté julgou Israel por seis anos. Então morreu Jefté, o gileadita, e foi sepultado em uma das cidades de Gileade.
8 And after him there judged Israel Ibzan of Beth–lechem.
8 E depois dele, Ibsã de Belém julgou Israel.
9 And he had thirty sons; and thirty daughters he sent abroad, and thirty daughters he brought in for his sons from abroad: and he judged Israel seven years.
9 E ele tinha trinta filhos, e trinta filhas, as quais ele enviou para o exterior, e trouxe trinta filhas do exterior para os seus filhos. E ele julgou Israel por sete anos.
10 Then died Ibzan, and was buried at Beth–lechem.
10 Então morreu Ibsã, e foi sepultado em Belém.
11 And after him there judged Israel Elon the Zebulonite; and he judged Israel ten years.
11 E depois dele Elom, um zebulonita, julgou Israel; e julgou Israel por dez anos.
12 Then died Elon the Zebulonite, and was buried in Ayalon in the country of Zebulun.
12 E Elom, o zebulonita, morreu e foi sepultado em Aijalom, na região de Zebulom.
13 And after him there judged Israel ‘Abdon the son of Hillel the Pir’athonite.
13 E depois dele Abdom, o filho de Hilel, o piratonita, julgou Israel.
14 And he had forty sons and thirty grandsons, that rode on seventy ass–colts; and he judged Israel eight years.
14 E ele tinha quarenta filhos e trinta netos, que montavam setenta jumentos potros; e julgou Israel por oito anos.
15 Then died ‘Abdon the son of Hillel the Pir’athonite, and was buried in Pir’athon in the land of Ephraim, in the mountain of the ‘Amalekites.
15 E Abdom, o filho de Hilel, o piratonita, morreu, e foi sepultado em Piratom, na terra de Efraim, no monte dos Amalequitas.
