1 Then continued Elihu, and said,
1 Eliú continuou a falar:
2 Wait for me a little, and I will instruct thee; for I have still some words on Gods behalf.
2 “Deixe-me prosseguir e lhe mostrarei a verdade, pois ainda não terminei de defender a Deus!
3 I will lift up my knowledge for him who is afar, and for my Maker will I obtain righteousness.
3 Apresentarei argumentos profundos em favor da justiça de meu Criador.
4 For truly no falsehood is in my words: one that is upright in his opinions dealeth now with thee.
4 Digo somente a verdade, pois sou homem de pleno conhecimento.
5 Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength of intellect.
5 “Deus é poderoso, mas não despreza ninguém; ele é grande em força e entendimento.
6 He permitteth not the wicked to live; but he procureth justice for the afflicted.
6 Não permite que os perversos vivam, mas faz justiça aos aflitos.
7 He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous; but he placeth them with kings on the throne; yea, he doth establish them for ever, and they are exalted.
7 Observa atentamente os justos, coloca-os em tronos com reis e exalta-os para sempre.
8 And if they be bound in fetters, and if they be entangled in the cords of affliction:
8 Se estão acorrentados e amarrados com cordas de aflição,
9 Then doth he tell them of their work, and of their transgressions, when they had become strong.
9 ele faz que vejam o motivo; mostra-lhes que pecaram, sendo orgulhosos.
10 And he openeth thus their ear to correction, and saith that they should return from wrongdoing.
10 Chama-lhes a atenção e ordena que se afastem do mal.
11 If they hearken and serve him, they will spend their days in happiness, and their years in pleasures.
11 “Se obedecerem e servirem a Deus, serão abençoados com prosperidade a vida inteira; todos os seus dias serão agradáveis.
12 But if they hearken not, they will pass away through the sword, and they will perish in want of knowledge.
12 Se, porém, não o ouvirem, serão atravessados pela espada e perecerão por falta de entendimento.
13 But the hypocrites in heart persevere in wrath; they will not offer entreaty when he bindeth them:
13 Pois os ímpios são cheios de ressentimento; mesmo quando Deus os castiga, não clamam por socorro.
14 Their soul will die in youth, and their life, among the incestuous.
14 Morrem em plena juventude, depois de desperdiçar a vida em imoralidade.
15 He delivereth the afflicted through his affliction, and openeth through oppression his ear.
15 Mas, por meio do sofrimento, ele livra os que sofrem e, por meio da adversidade, obtém sua atenção.
16 And also thee hath he incited away from the jaws of distress into a wide space, on the site of which there is no straitness; and what is set on thy table is full of fatness.
16 “Jó, Deus também quer afastá-lo do sofrimento e levá-lo a um lugar onde não há aflição; quer pôr em sua mesa as comidas mais saborosas.
17 But if thou art full of the judgment of the wicked: divine judgment and decree will support each other.
17 Você, porém, insiste em saber se os perversos serão julgados; só consegue pensar no juízo e na justiça.
18 For there would be fury, If aught were to incite thee to utter an abundance of rebellious words; and the greatness of the infliction must not mislead thee.
18 Tome cuidado, para que a riqueza não o seduza; não deixe que o suborno o leve a pecar.
19 Will he esteem thy riches? no, not gold ore, nor all the highest forces of strength.
19 Acaso toda a sua riqueza ou todos os seus grandes esforços poderiam guardá-lo da aflição?
20 Desire then not eagerly the night, when nations pass away in their place.
20 Não deseje a proteção da noite, pois é quando as pessoas serão destruídas.
21 Take heed, turn not thyself to wrongdoing, so that thou wouldst choose this because of thy affliction.
21 Fique atento! Afaste-se do mal, pois Deus enviou este sofrimento para guardá-lo de uma vida de maldade.”
22 Behold, God is exalted by his power: who is an instructer like him?
22 “Deus é muito poderoso; quem é mestre como ele?
23 Who hath given him a charge concerning his way? or who hath ever said, Thou hast acted unjustly?
23 Ninguém pode lhe ordenar o que fazer, nem lhe dizer: ‘Agiste mal’.
24 Reflect, that thou shouldst magnify his work, which other men have beheld.
24 Você deve, sim, dar glória a Deus por suas obras poderosas e entoar cânticos de louvor.
25 All men have looked at it with astonishment; the mortal gazeth at it from afar.
25 Todos viram suas obras, ainda que apenas de longe.
26 Behold, God is great, and we comprehend him not, the number of his years can truly not be searched out.
26 “Deus é tão grande que não podemos compreender; não há como calcular os anos de sua existência.
27 For he taketh away drops of water, which are purified into rain in his mist:
27 Ele faz a água subir como vapor e depois a destila em chuva.
28 These drop down out of the skies; they distil upon the multitude of men.
28 As nuvens derramam a chuva, e a humanidade toda se beneficia.
29 But what man can understand the outspreadings of the clouds? the tumult of his tabernacle?
29 Quem pode entender a extensão das nuvens e o trovão que ressoa do céu?
30 Behold, he spreadeth out over it his light, and covereth up the roots of the sea.
30 Deus espalha relâmpagos em volta de si e cobre as profundezas do mar.
31 For by means of them he judgeth nations, he giveth food in superfluity.
31 Com esses atos poderosos, governa os povos e lhes dá comida com fartura.
32 His hands he covereth with light; and he commandeth it to strike the one who striveth against him.
32 Enche as mãos de relâmpagos e atira cada um em seu alvo.
33 The noise of his storm telleth of it, yea, the cattle also, of the rising tempest.
33 O trovão anuncia sua presença, e a tempestade, sua ira indignada.”
