1 Then answered Eliphaz the Themanite, and said,
1 Então respondeu Elifaz, o temanita, e disse:
2 Should a wise man utter windy knowledge, and fill his inward parts with the east wind?
2 Deveria o homem sábio proferir conhecimento vão, e encher sua barriga com o vento do leste?
3 Should he reason with a speech which availeth nothing? and with words in which there is no profit?
3 Deveria ele argumentar com uma conversa infrutífera, ou fazer discursos com os quais ele não possa fazer algo de bom?
4 Yea, thou truly makest void the fear of God, and diminishest devotion before God.
4 Sim, tu rejeitas o temor, e restringes a oração diante de Deus.
5 For thy iniquity teacheth thy mouth, so that thou choosest the language of the crafty.
5 Porque a tua boca declara a tua iniquidade; e tu escolhes a língua dos astutos.
6 Thy own mouth must condemn thee, but not I: yea, thy own lips will testify against thee.
6 Tua própria boca te condena, e não eu; sim, teus próprios lábios testificam contra ti.
7 Wast thou born as the first man? or wast thou brought forth before the hills?
7 És tu o primeiro homem que nasceu? Ou foste feito antes das colinas?
8 Hast thou listened to the secret counsel of God? and is wisdom therefore of little esteem with thee?
8 Ouviste o segredo de Deus, e restringes a sabedoria para ti mesmo?
9 What knowest thou, that we do not know? what understandest thou, which is not with us?
9 O que tu sabes que nós não saibamos? O que entendes, que não esteja em nós?
10 Both the grayheaded and the very aged are among us, richer than thy father in days.
10 Conosco estão os grisalhos e os homens muito velhos, muito mais anciãos do que teu pai.
11 Are the divine consolations too little for thee? and the word that was so mild with thee?
11 As consolações de Deus são pequenas contigo? Há alguma coisa secreta contigo?
12 Whither doth thy heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes gaze at?
12 Por que teu coração te leva, e por que piscam os teus olhos?
13 That thou shouldst turn against God thy spirit, and utter such words out of thy mouth?
13 Para que vires teu espírito contra Deus, e deixes tais palavras saírem da tua boca?
14 What is man, that he should be pure? and that he who is born of woman should be declared righteous?
14 O que é o homem, para que seja limpo; e o que é nascido da mulher, para que seja justo?
15 Behold, in his holy ones he putteth no trust; and the heavens are not pure in his eyes:
15 Eis que ele não coloca confiança nos seus santos; sim, e os céus não estão limpos à sua vista.
16 How much more then the abominable and corrupt, the man who drinketh like water wrongdoing?
16 Quão mais abominável e imundo é o homem que bebe a iniquidade como água?
17 I will instruct thee, hear me; and what I have seen will I relate;
17 Eu te mostrarei, escuta-me, mostrar-te-ei; e aquilo que vi, declararei.
18 Which wise men have ever told, and have not concealed, as they obtained it from their fathers;
18 O que os homens sábios têm contado de seus pais, e não o ocultaram;
19 Unto whom alone the earth was given, and into whose midst no stranger ever entered.
19 aos quais somente a terra foi entregue, e nenhum estranho passou por entre eles.
20 All his days is the wicked plagued with pain, and the number of years which are laid by for the tyrant.
20 O homem perverso lida com a dor em todos os seus dias, e o número de anos é oculto ao opressor.
21 A sound of terrors is in his ears: during peace will the waster come over him.
21 Um som terrível está em seus ouvidos; na prosperidade o destruidor virá sobre ele.
22 He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is looked for by the sword.
22 Ele não crê que retornará das trevas, e que o espera a espada.
23 He wandereth abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? he knoweth that there is ready at his hand the day of darkness.
23 Ele vagueia em busca de pão, dizendo: Onde está? Ele sabe que o dia das trevas está logo à sua mão.
24 Distress and anguish terrify him: they assail him with might, as a king prepared for the battle.
24 Problema e angústia o deixarão com medo; prevalecerão contra ele, como um rei pronto para a batalha.
25 Because he had stretched out against God his hand, and strengthened himself against the Almighty;
25 Porque ele estende a sua mão contra Deus, e se fortalece contra o Todo-Poderoso.
26 And he had run against him, with an extended neck, with the thick roundings of his bucklers;
26 Arremete sobre ele, bem na sua cerviz, e contra os pontos grossos dos seus broquéis.
27 Because he had covered his face with his fat, and had made thick folds of fat on his flanks;
27 Porque ele cobre a sua face com a sua gordura, e cria pedaços de gordura nos seus flancos.
28 And he dwelt in abandoned cities, in houses which none inhabited, which were destined to be ruinous heaps.
28 E ele habita em cidades assoladas, e em casas onde nenhum homem habita, que estão prontas para se tornarem montões.
29 Yet will he not remain rich, neither will his wealth endure, nor will he attain their perfection on earth.
29 Ele não será rico, nem o seu bem continuará, nem ele prolongará a sua perfeição sobre a terra.
30 He will never depart out of darkness: the flame shall dry up his shoots, and he will depart by the breath of Gods mouth.
30 Ele não deixará as trevas; a chama secará os seus galhos, e pelo fôlego de sua boca ele sumirá.
31 Let him that goeth astray not trust in vanity; for vanity will be what he obtaineth thereby.
31 Não confie na vaidade aquele que é enganado, porque a vaidade será a sua recompensa.
32 Even before his time will it be overfull, and his branches will not be green.
32 Ela se consumará antes do seu tempo, e o seu galho não ficará verde.
33 He will shake off like the vine his unripe grapes, and cast off like the olive his blossoms.
33 Ele sacudirá as suas uvas verdes como a vinha, e lançará fora sua flor como a oliva.
34 For the assembly of hypocrites will remain desolate, and fire will consume the tents of bribery.
34 Porque a congregação dos hipócritas será desolada, e fogo consumirá os tabernáculos do suborno.
35 They conceive trouble, and bring forth wrongdoing, and their body prepareth deceit.
35 Eles concebem a malícia, dão à luz a iniquidade, e o seu ventre prepara o engano.
