1 Canst thou draw out leviathan with a fish-hook? or press down his tongue with a cord?
1 Poderás tu fisgar Leviatã com um anzol, e amarrar-lhe a língua com uma corda?
2 Canst thou put a ring into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a hook?
2 Serás capaz de passar um junco em suas ventas, ou de furar-lhe a mandíbula com um gancho?
3 Will he make many supplications unto thee? or will he speak soft words unto thee?
3 Ele te fará muitos rogos, e te dirigirá palavras ternas?
4 Will he make a covenant with thee, that thou shouldest take him for a servant for ever?
4 Concluirá ele um pacto contigo, a fim de que faças dele sempre teu escravo?
5 Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? Or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?
5 Brincarás com ele como com um pássaro, ou atá-lo-ás para divertir teus filhos?
6 Will the bands of fishermen make a banquet of him? Will they part him among the merchants?
6 Será ele vendido por uma sociedade de pescadores, e dividido entre os negociantes?
7 Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish-spears?
7 Crivar-lhe-ás a pele de dardos, fincar-lhe-ás um arpão na cabeça?
8 Lay thy hand upon him; think upon the battle, thou wilt do so no more.
8 Tenta pôr a mão nele, sempre te lembrarás disso, e não recomeçarás.
9 Behold, the hope of him is in vain; shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him?
9 Tua esperança será lograda, bastaria seu aspecto para te arrasar.
10 None is so fierce that dare stir him up; who then is able to stand before Me?
10 Ninguém é bastante ousado para provocá-lo; quem lhe resistiria face a face?
11 Who hath given Me anything beforehand, that I should repay him? Whatsoever is under the whole heaven is Mine.
11 Quem pôde afrontá-lo e sair com vida, debaixo de toda a extensão do céu?
12 Would I keep silence concerning his boastings, or his proud talk, or his fair array of words?
12 Não quero calar {a glória} de seus membros, direi seu vigor incomparável.
13 Who can uncover the face of his garment? Who shall come within his double bridle?
13 Quem levantou a dianteira de sua couraça? Quem penetrou na dupla linha de sua dentadura?
14 Who can open the doors of his face? Round about his teeth is terror.
14 Quem lhe abriu os dois batentes da goela, em que seus dentes fazem reinar o terror?
15 His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal.
15 Sua costa é um aglomerado de escudos, cujas juntas são estreitamente ligadas;
16 One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.
16 uma toca a outra, o ar não passa por entre elas;
17 They are joined one to another; they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.
17 uma adere tão bem à outra, que são encaixadas sem se poderem desunir.
18 His sneezings flash forth light, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.
18 Seu espirro faz jorrar a luz, seus olhos são como as pálpebras da aurora.
19 Out of his mouth go burning torches, and sparks of fire leap forth.
19 De sua goela saem chamas, escapam centelhas ardentes.
20 Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot and burning rushes.
20 De suas ventas sai uma fumaça, como de uma marmita que ferve entre chamas.
21 His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.
21 Seu hálito queima como brasa, a chama jorra de sua goela.
22 In his neck abideth strength, and dismay danceth before him.
22 Em seu pescoço reside a força, diante dele salta o espanto.
23 The flakes of his flesh are joined together; they are firm upon him; they cannot be moved.
23 As barbelas de sua carne são aderentes, esticadas sobre ele, inabaláveis.
24 His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, firm as the nether millstone.
24 Duro como a pedra é seu coração, sólido como a mó fixa de um moinho.
25 When he raiseth himself up, the mighty are afraid; by reason of despair they are beside themselves.
25 Quando se levanta, tremem as ondas, as vagas do mar se afastam.
26 If one lay at him with the sword, it will not hold; nor the spear, the dart, nor the pointed shaft.
26 Se uma espada o toca, ela não resiste, nem a lança, nem a azagaia, nem o dardo.
27 He esteemeth iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood.
27 O ferro para ele é palha; o bronze, pau podre.
28 The arrow cannot make him flee; slingstones are turned with him into stubble.
28 A flecha não o faz fugir, as pedras da funda são palhinhas para ele.
29 Clubs are accounted as stubble; he laugheth at the rattling of the javelin.
29 O martelo lhe parece um fiapo de palha; ri-se do assobio da azagaia.
30 Sharpest potsherds are under him; he spreadeth a threshing-sledge upon the mire.
30 Seu ventre é coberto de cacos de vidro pontudos, é uma grade de ferro que se estende sobre a lama.
31 He maketh the deep to boil like a pot; he maketh the sea like a seething mixture.
31 Faz ferver o abismo como uma panela, faz do mar um queimador de perfumes.
32 He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary.
32 Deixa atrás de si um sulco brilhante, como se o abismo tivesse cabelos brancos.
33 Upon earth there is not his like, who is made to be fearless.
33 Não há nada igual a ele na terra, pois foi feito para não ter medo de nada;
34 He looketh at all high things; he is king over all the proud beasts.
34 afronta tudo o que é elevado, é o rei dos mais orgulhosos animais.
