1 Canst thou draw out leviathan with a fish-hook? or press down his tongue with a cord?
1 “E, quanto ao monstro Leviatã , será que você pode pescá-lo com um anzol ou amarrar a sua língua com uma corda?
2 Canst thou put a ring into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a hook?
2 Você é capaz de passar uma corda pelo nariz dele ou furar o seu queixo com um gancho?
3 Will he make many supplications unto thee? or will he speak soft words unto thee?
3 Será que ele vai pedir que você o solte ou implorar que tenha dó dele?
4 Will he make a covenant with thee, that thou shouldest take him for a servant for ever?
4 Será que ele vai fazer um trato com você, prometendo trabalhar para você o resto da vida?
5 Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? Or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?
5 Será que você vai brincar com ele, como se fosse um passarinho? Você vai amarrá-lo, a fim de servir como um brinquedo para as suas empregadas?
6 Will the bands of fishermen make a banquet of him? Will they part him among the merchants?
6 Será ele vendido por um grupo de pescadores? Será que para isso o cortarão em pedaços?
7 Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish-spears?
7 Será que você pode enterrar lanças no seu couro ou fincar arpões de pesca na sua cabeça?
8 Lay thy hand upon him; think upon the battle, thou wilt do so no more.
8 Tente encostar a mão nele, e será uma vez só, pois você nunca mais esquecerá a luta.
9 Behold, the hope of him is in vain; shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him?
9 Só de olhar para o monstro Leviatã as pessoas perdem toda a coragem e desmaiam de medo.
10 None is so fierce that dare stir him up; who then is able to stand before Me?
10 Se alguém o provoca, ele fica furioso. Quem se arriscaria a desafiá-lo?
11 Who hath given Me anything beforehand, that I should repay him? Whatsoever is under the whole heaven is Mine.
11 Quem pode enfrentá-lo sem sair ferido? Ninguém, no mundo inteiro.
12 Would I keep silence concerning his boastings, or his proud talk, or his fair array of words?
12 “Agora vou falar das pernas do Leviatã, do seu tamanho e da sua força sem igual.
13 Who can uncover the face of his garment? Who shall come within his double bridle?
13 Quem pode arrancar o couro que o cobre ou furar a sua dupla
14 Who can open the doors of his face? Round about his teeth is terror.
14 Quem é capaz de fazê-lo abrir a sua queixada rodeada de dentes terríveis?
15 His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal.
15 As suas costas são cobertas de fileiras de escamas ligadas umas com as outras e duras como pedras.
16 One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.
16 Estão coladas tão bem umas nas outras, que nem o ar passa entre elas.
17 They are joined one to another; they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.
17 Estão ligadas entre si e bem-coladas, de modo que ninguém pode separá-las.
18 His sneezings flash forth light, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.
18 Quando o Leviatã espirra, saem faíscas; os seus olhos brilham como o sol ao amanhecer.
19 Out of his mouth go burning torches, and sparks of fire leap forth.
19 A sua boca lança chamas, e dela saltam faíscas de fogo.
20 Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot and burning rushes.
20 O seu nariz solta fumaça, como a de galhos que queimam debaixo de uma panela.
21 His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.
21 O seu sopro acende o fogo, e da sua boca saem chamas.
22 In his neck abideth strength, and dismay danceth before him.
22 A sua força está no pescoço, e a cara dele mete medo em todo mundo.
23 The flakes of his flesh are joined together; they are firm upon him; they cannot be moved.
23 No seu couro não existe ponto fraco; ele é firme e duro como ferro.
24 His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, firm as the nether millstone.
24 O seu coração cruel não tem medo; é duro como uma pedra de moinho.
25 When he raiseth himself up, the mighty are afraid; by reason of despair they are beside themselves.
25 Quando ele se levanta, até os mais fortes ficam apavorados; o medo os impede de agir.
26 If one lay at him with the sword, it will not hold; nor the spear, the dart, nor the pointed shaft.
26 Não há espada que consiga feri-lo, nem lança, nem flecha, nem arpão.
27 He esteemeth iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood.
27 Para ele, o ferro é como palha, e o bronze, como pau podre.
28 The arrow cannot make him flee; slingstones are turned with him into stubble.
28 As flechas não o fazem fugir. Jogar pedras nele é como jogar capim.
29 Clubs are accounted as stubble; he laugheth at the rattling of the javelin.
29 Bater nele com um porrete é o mesmo que bater com uma torcida de palha; ele zomba dos homens que lhe atiram lanças.
30 Sharpest potsherds are under him; he spreadeth a threshing-sledge upon the mire.
30 A sua barriga é coberta de cacos pontudos, que reviram a lama como se fossem uma grade de ferro.
31 He maketh the deep to boil like a pot; he maketh the sea like a seething mixture.
31 Ele agita o mar e o faz ficar como água que ferve na panela, como o óleo fervendo no caldeirão.
32 He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary.
32 Ele vai deixando na água um rastro luminoso, como se o mar tivesse uma cabeleira branca.
33 Upon earth there is not his like, who is made to be fearless.
33 Não há nada neste mundo que se compare com ele, pois foi feito para não ter medo.
34 He looketh at all high things; he is king over all the proud beasts.
34 O Leviatã olha para tudo com desprezo e entre todas as feras orgulhosas ele é rei.”
