1 My soul is weary of my life; I will give free course to my complaint; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.
1 “Estou cansado de viver. Vou me desabafar e falar da amargura que tenho no coração.
2 I will say unto God: Do not condemn me; make me know wherefore Thou contendest with me.
2 Ó Deus, não me condenes! Dize-me de que me acusas!
3 Is it good unto Thee that Thou shouldest oppress, that Thou shouldest despise the work of Thy hands, and shine upon the counsel of the wicked?
3 Tu mesmo me criaste. Como, então, podes ter prazer em me maltratar e desprezar e em aprovar os planos dos maus?
4 Hast Thou eyes of flesh? or seest Thou as man seeth?
4 Por acaso, tens olhos, como nós? Será que vês as coisas como nós vemos?
5 Are Thy days as the days of man, or Thy years as a man's days,
5 Por acaso, a tua vida é tão curta como a nossa? Será que vives tão pouco quanto os seres humanos?
6 That Thou inquirest after mine iniquity, and searchest after my sin,
6 Então por que procuras saber de todos os meus pecados? Por que te informas das maldades que cometi?
7 Although Thou knowest that I shall not be condemned; and there is none that can deliver out of Thy hand?
7 Pois sabes que não sou culpado e que ninguém pode me salvar das tuas mãos.
8 Thy hands have framed me and fashioned me together round about; yet Thou dost destroy me!
8 “As tuas mãos me fizeram, me deram forma e agora essas mesmas mãos me destroem.
9 Remember, I beseech Thee, that Thou hast fashioned me as clay; and wilt Thou bring me into dust again?
9 Lembra que me fizeste de barro; vais me fazer virar pó outra vez?
10 Hast Thou not poured me out as milk, and curdled me like cheese?
10 Tu fizeste com que o meu pai e a minha mãe me gerassem, que me dessem a vida.
11 Thou hast clothed me with skin and flesh, and knit me together with bones and sinews.
11 Formaste o meu corpo de ossos e nervos e os cobriste com carne e pele.
12 Thou hast granted me life and favour, and Thy providence hath preserved my spirit.
12 Tu me deste vida e me deste amor, e os teus cuidados me conservam vivo.
13 Yet these things Thou didst hide in Thy heart; I know that this is with Thee;
13 Mas agora sei que no teu coração tinhas este plano secreto:
14 If I sin, then Thou markest me, and Thou wilt not acquit me from mine iniquity.
14 tu querias ver se eu ia pecar para depois me negares o teu perdão.
15 If I be wicked, woe unto me; and if I be righteous, yet shall I not lift up my head--being filled with ignominy and looking upon mine affliction.
15 Se sou culpado, estou perdido; se sou inocente, não tenho coragem para levantar a cabeça, pois fico envergonhado quando olho para a minha desgraça.
16 And if it exalt itself, Thou huntest me as a lion; and again Thou showest Thyself marvellous upon me.
16 Se levanto a cabeça, orgulhoso da minha inocência, tu, como um leão, me persegues; e até fazes milagres para me destruir.
17 Thou renewest Thy witnesses against me, and increasest Thine indignation upon me; host succeeding host against me.
17 Tu sempre tens testemunhas que me acusam; a tua e tu me atacas sem parar, como se fosses um exército.
18 Wherefore then hast Thou brought me forth out of the womb? Would that I had perished, and no eye had seen me!
18 “Ó Deus, por que me deixaste nascer? Eu deveria ter morrido antes mesmo que alguém me visse.
19 I should have been as though I had not been; I should have been carried from the womb to the grave.
19 Eu teria ido do ventre da minha mãe para a sepultura, teria sido como se nunca tivesse existido.
20 Are not my days few? Cease then, and let me alone, that I may take comfort a little,
20 A minha vida está chegando ao fim. Então me deixa em paz! Deixa que eu tenha um pouco de alegria
21 Before I go whence I shall not return, even to the land of darkness and of the shadow of death;
21 antes que me vá na viagem que não tem volta, antes que vá para o país da escuridão e das trevas,
22 A land of thick darkness, as darkness itself; a land of the shadow of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness.
22 para o país das sombras e da desordem, onde a própria luz é como a escuridão.”
