1 What advantage, then, does the Jew have, or what value is there in circumcision?
1 Então qual é a vantagem de ser judeu? A circuncisão tem algum valor?
2 There are all kinds of advantages! First of all, the Jews have been entrusted with the utterances of God.
2 Sim, há muitos benefícios. Em primeiro lugar, aos judeus foi confiada toda a revelação de Deus.
3 What if some of them were unfaithful? Their unfaithfulness cannot cancel God's faithfulness, can it?
3 É verdade que alguns deles foram infiéis, mas isso significa que Deus será infiel?
4 Of course not! God is true, even if everyone else is a liar. As it is written, “You are right when you speak,and win your case when you go into court.”
4 De maneira nenhuma! Ainda que todos sejam mentirosos, Deus é verdadeiro. E as Escrituras dizem a seu respeito: “Será provado que tens razão no que dizes, e ganharás tua causa no juízo”.
5 But if our unrighteousness serves to confirm God's righteousness, what can we say? God is not unrighteous when he vents his wrath on us, is he? (I am talking in human terms.)
5 Alguém poderia dizer: “Mas nosso pecado não cumpre um bom propósito, ajudando os outros a verem como Deus é justo? Não é uma injustiça, portanto, Deus nos castigar?”. (Estou seguindo o ponto de vista humano.)
6 Of course not! Otherwise, how could God judge the world?
6 Claro que não! Se fosse assim, como Deus poderia julgar o mundo?
7 For if through my falsehood God's truthfulness increases to his glory, why am I still being condemned as a sinner?
7 Alguém poderia argumentar, ainda: “Mas por que Deus me condena como pecador se minha mentira ressalta sua verdade e lhe traz mais glória?”.
8 Or can we say—as some people slander us by claiming that we say—“Let us do evil that good may result”? Their condemnation is deserved!
8 E alguns até nos difamam, afirmando que dizemos: “Quanto mais pecarmos, melhor!”. Quem diz essas coisas merece condenação.
9 What, then, does this mean? Are we Jews any better off? Not at all! For we have already accused everyone, both Jews and Greeks, of being under the power of sin.
9 Pois bem, devemos concluir que nós, judeus, somos melhores que os outros? Não, de maneira nenhuma, pois já mostramos que todos, judeus ou gentios, estão sob o poder do pecado.
10 As it is written, “Not even one person is righteous.
10 Como afirmam as Escrituras: “Ninguém é justo, nem um sequer.
11 No one understands.No one searches for God.
11 Ninguém é sábio, ninguém busca a Deus.
12 All have turned away.Together they have become worthless.No one shows kindness, not even one person!
12 Todos se desviaram, todos se tornaram inúteis. Ninguém faz o bem, nem um sequer.”
13 Their throats are open graves.With their tongues they practice deception.The venom of poisonous snakes is under their lips.
13 “Sua conversa é repulsiva, como o odor de um túmulo aberto; sua língua é cheia de mentiras.” “Veneno de serpentes goteja de seus lábios.”
14 Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.
14 “Sua boca é cheia de maldição e amargura.”
15 Their feet are swift to shed blood.
15 “Apressam-se em cometer homicídio;
16 Ruin and misery mark their ways.
16 por onde passam, deixam destruição e sofrimento.
17 They have not learned the path to peace.
17 Não sabem onde encontrar paz.”
18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
18 “Não têm o menor temor de Deus.”
19 Now we know that whatever the law says applies to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God.
19 É evidente que a lei se aplica àqueles a quem ela foi entregue, pois seu propósito é evitar desculpas e mostrar que todo o mundo é culpado diante de Deus.
20 Therefore, no human being will be justified in God's sight by means of the works prescribed by the law, for through the law comes the full knowledge of sin.
20 Pois ninguém será declarado justo diante de Deus por fazer o que a lei ordena. A lei simplesmente mostra quanto somos pecadores.
21 But now, apart from the law, God's righteousness is revealed and is attested by the Law and the Prophets—
21 Agora, porém, conforme prometido na lei de Moisés e nos profetas, Deus nos mostrou como somos declarados justos diante dele sem as exigências da lei:
22 God's righteousness through the faithfulness of Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction,
22 somos declarados justos diante de Deus por meio da fé em Jesus Cristo, e isso se aplica a todos que creem, sem nenhuma distinção.
23 since all have sinned and continue to fall short of God's glory.
23 Pois todos pecaram e não alcançam o padrão da glória de Deus,
24 By his grace they are justified freely through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,
24 mas ele, em sua graça, nos declara justos por meio de Cristo Jesus, que nos resgatou do castigo por nossos pecados.
25 whom God offered as a place where atonement by Christ's blood could occur through faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because he had waited patiently to deal with sins committed in the past.
25 Deus apresentou Jesus como sacrifício pelo pecado, com o sangue que ele derramou, mostrando assim sua justiça em favor dos que creem. No passado ele se conteve e não castigou os pecados antes cometidos,
26 He wanted to demonstrate at the present time that he himself is righteous and that he justifies the person who has the faithfulness of Jesus.
26 pois planejava revelar sua justiça no tempo presente. Com isso, Deus se mostrou justo, condenando o pecado, e justificador, declarando justo o pecador que crê em Jesus.
27 What, then, is there to boast about? That has been eliminated. On what principle? On that of works? No, but on the principle of faith.
27 Podemos então nos vangloriar de ter feito algo para sermos aceitos por Deus? Não, pois nossa absolvição não vem pela obediência à lei, mas pela fé.
28 For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works prescribed by the law.
28 Portanto, somos declarados justos por meio da fé, e não pela obediência à lei.
29 Is God the God of the Jews only? Is he not the God of the Gentiles, too? Yes, of the Gentiles, too,
29 Afinal, Deus é Deus apenas dos judeus? Não é também Deus dos gentios? Claro que sim!
30 since there is only one God who will justify the circumcised on the basis of faith and the uncircumcised by that same faith.
30 Existe um só Deus, e ele declara justos tanto judeus como gentios somente pela fé.
31 Do we, then, abolish the law by this faith? Of course not! Instead, we uphold the law.
31 Então, se enfatizamos a fé, quer dizer que podemos abolir a lei? Claro que não! Na realidade, é só quando temos fé que cumprimos verdadeiramente a lei.
