1 To him that excelleth. A Psalme to give instruction, committed to the sonnes of Korah. We haue heard with our eares, O God: our fathers haue tolde vs the workes, that thou hast done in their dayes, in the olde time:
1 Ó Deus, ouvimos com os próprios ouvidos; nossos antepassados nos contaram tudo que fizeste em seus dias, muito tempo atrás.
2 Howe thou hast driuen out the heathen with thine hand, and planted them: how thou hast destroyed the people, and caused them to grow.
2 Com teu poder, expulsaste as nações e estabeleceste teu povo na terra. Esmagaste os povos inimigos e libertaste nossos antepassados.
3 For they inherited not the lande by their owne sworde, neither did their owne arme saue them: but thy right hand, and thine arme and the light of thy countenance, because thou didest fauour them.
3 Não foi por suas espadas que eles conquistaram a terra, não foi pela força de seus braços que alcançaram vitória. Foi pela tua mão direita e pelo teu braço forte, pela luz intensa do teu rosto; foi por causa do teu amor por eles.
4 Thou art my King, O God: send helpe vnto Iaakob.

5 Through thee haue we thrust backe our aduersaries: by thy Name haue we troden downe them that rose vp against vs.
5 Com teu poder, afastamos nossos inimigos; em teu nome, pisoteamos nossos adversários.
6 For I do not trust in my bowe, neither can my sworde saue me.
6 Não confio em meu arco, não conto com minha espada para me salvar.
7 But thou hast saued vs from our aduersaries, and hast put them to confusion that hate vs.
7 Tu nos concedes vitória sobre nossos inimigos e envergonhas os que nos odeiam.
8 Therefore will wee praise God continually, and will confesse thy Name for euer. Selah.
8 Ó Deus, o dia todo te damos glória e louvamos teu nome para sempre. Interlúdio
9 But now thou art farre off, and puttest vs to confusion, and goest not forth with our armies.
9 Agora, porém, tu nos rejeitaste e nos envergonhaste; já não conduzes nossos exércitos para as batalhas.
10 Thou makest vs to turne backe from the aduersary, and they, which hate vs, spoile for theselues.
10 Tu nos fazes bater em retirada diante de nossos inimigos e permites que sejamos saqueados por aqueles que nos odeiam.
11 Thou giuest vs as sheepe to bee eaten, and doest scatter vs among the nations.
11 Entregaste-nos como ovelhas para o matadouro e espalhaste-nos entre as nações.
12 Thou sellest thy people without gaine, and doest not increase their price.
12 Vendeste teu povo precioso por uma ninharia e não tiveste lucro com a venda.
13 Thou makest vs a reproche to our neighbours, a iest and a laughing stocke to them that are round about vs.
13 Permitiste que as nações vizinhas zombassem de nós; somos objeto de desprezo e ridículo para os que nos rodeiam.
14 Thou makest vs a prouerbe among the nations, and a nodding of the head among the people.
14 Fizeste de nós motivo de riso entre as nações; com desdém, balançam a cabeça para nós.
15 My confusion is dayly before me, and the shame of my face hath couered me,
15 Não há como escapar da humilhação constante; temos o rosto coberto de vergonha.
16 For the voyce of the slaunderer and rebuker, for the enemie and auenger.
16 Não ouvimos outra coisa, senão os insultos dos que zombam de nós. Não vemos outra coisa, senão os inimigos que desejam vingança.
17 All this is come vpon vs, yet doe wee not forget thee, neither deale wee falsly concerning thy couenant.
17 Tudo isso aconteceu sem que nos esquecêssemos de ti, sem que fôssemos infiéis à tua aliança.
18 Our heart is not turned backe: neither our steps gone out of thy paths,
18 Nosso coração não te abandonou, não desviamos os pés de teu caminho.
19 Albeit thou hast smitten vs downe into the place of dragons, and couered vs with the shadow of death.
19 Tu, porém, nos esmagaste no deserto, onde vivem os chacais, e nos cobriste de escuridão e morte.
20 If wee haue forgotten the Name of our God, and holden vp our hands to a strange god,
20 Se tivéssemos nos esquecido do nome de nosso Deus, ou estendido as mãos em oração a deuses estrangeiros,
21 Shall not God searche this out? for hee knoweth the secrets of the heart.
21 Deus com certeza saberia, pois ele conhece os segredos de cada coração.
22 Surely for thy sake are we slaine continually, and are counted as sheepe for the slaughter.
22 Mas, por causa de ti, enfrentamos a morte todos os dias; somos como ovelhas levadas para o matadouro.
23 Vp, why sleepest thou, O Lord? awake, be not farre off for euer.
23 Desperta, Senhor! Por que dormes? Levanta-te! Não nos rejeites para sempre!
24 Wherefore hidest thou thy face? and forgettest our miserie and our affliction?
24 Por que escondes o rosto de nós? Por que te esqueces de nosso sofrimento e opressão?
25 For our soule is beaten downe vnto the dust: our belly cleaueth vnto the ground.
25 Desfalecemos no pó, caídos com o corpo no chão.
26 Rise vp for our succour, and redeeme vs for thy mercies sake.
26 Levanta-te e ajuda-nos! Resgata-nos por causa do teu amor!
