1 To him that excelleth. A Psalme to give instruction, committed to the sonnes of Korah. We haue heard with our eares, O God: our fathers haue tolde vs the workes, that thou hast done in their dayes, in the olde time:
1 Ó Deus, nós ouvimos com os nossos próprios ouvidos aquilo que os nossos antepassados nos contaram. Ouvimos falar das grandes coisas que fizeste no tempo deles, há muitos anos.
2 Howe thou hast driuen out the heathen with thine hand, and planted them: how thou hast destroyed the people, and caused them to grow.
2 Eles contaram como expulsaste os povos pagãos e puseste o teu povo na terra deles. Contaram como castigaste as outras nações e fizeste o teu povo progredir.
3 For they inherited not the lande by their owne sworde, neither did their owne arme saue them: but thy right hand, and thine arme and the light of thy countenance, because thou didest fauour them.
3 Não foi com espadas que os nossos antepassados conquistaram aquela terra; não foi com o seu próprio poder que eles venceram. Eles venceram com o teu poder, com a tua força e com a luz da tua presença. Assim tu mostraste o teu amor por eles.
4 Thou art my King, O God: send helpe vnto Iaakob.
4 Tu és o meu Rei e o meu Deus. Tu dás a vitória ao teu povo.
5 Through thee haue we thrust backe our aduersaries: by thy Name haue we troden downe them that rose vp against vs.
5 Com o teu poder vencemos os nossos inimigos e, com a tua presença, derrotamos os nossos adversários.
6 For I do not trust in my bowe, neither can my sworde saue me.
6 Não é no meu arco que eu confio, e não é a minha espada que me dá a vitória.
7 But thou hast saued vs from our aduersaries, and hast put them to confusion that hate vs.
7 Pois foste tu que nos livraste dos nossos inimigos e venceste aqueles que nos odeiam.
8 Therefore will wee praise God continually, and will confesse thy Name for euer. Selah.
8 Nós te louvaremos o dia todo; nós te somos gratos para sempre.
9 But now thou art farre off, and puttest vs to confusion, and goest not forth with our armies.
9 Mas agora, ó Deus, tu nos rejeitaste e deixaste que fôssemos derrotados, pois já não acompanhas os nossos exércitos.
10 Thou makest vs to turne backe from the aduersary, and they, which hate vs, spoile for theselues.
10 Tu nos fizeste fugir dos nossos inimigos, e eles levaram embora tudo o que tínhamos.
11 Thou giuest vs as sheepe to bee eaten, and doest scatter vs among the nations.
11 Tu nos trataste como se fôssemos ovelhas que vão para o matadouro e nos espalhaste entre as outras nações.
12 Thou sellest thy people without gaine, and doest not increase their price.
12 Vendeste barato o teu próprio povo, como se nós tivéssemos pouco valor.
13 Thou makest vs a reproche to our neighbours, a iest and a laughing stocke to them that are round about vs.
13 Os povos vizinhos, vendo o que nos fizeste, caçoam e zombam de nós.
14 Thou makest vs a prouerbe among the nations, and a nodding of the head among the people.
14 Tu nos fizeste motivo de zombaria para as outras nações; os outros povos nos desprezam.
15 My confusion is dayly before me, and the shame of my face hath couered me,
15 Estou sempre humilhado e coberto de vergonha,
16 For the voyce of the slaunderer and rebuker, for the enemie and auenger.
16 ouvindo as zombarias dos meus inimigos e os insultos dos que querem se vingar de mim.
17 All this is come vpon vs, yet doe wee not forget thee, neither deale wee falsly concerning thy couenant.
17 Tudo isso nos aconteceu, embora não tivéssemos esquecido de ti, nem tivéssemos quebrado a que fizeste com o teu povo.
18 Our heart is not turned backe: neither our steps gone out of thy paths,
18 Não fomos infiéis a ti, nem desobedecemos aos teus mandamentos.
19 Albeit thou hast smitten vs downe into the place of dragons, and couered vs with the shadow of death.
19 Porém tu nos jogaste, esmagados, no lugar onde estão os monstros marinhos e nos deixaste na mais profunda escuridão.
20 If wee haue forgotten the Name of our God, and holden vp our hands to a strange god,
20 Se tivéssemos deixado de adorar o nosso Deus e orado a algum deus pagão,
21 Shall not God searche this out? for hee knoweth the secrets of the heart.
21 tu certamente ficarias sabendo disso, pois conheces os pensamentos secretos das pessoas.
22 Surely for thy sake are we slaine continually, and are counted as sheepe for the slaughter.
22 Mas por causa de ti estamos em perigo de morte o dia inteiro; somos tratados como ovelhas que vão para o matadouro.
23 Vp, why sleepest thou, O Lord? awake, be not farre off for euer.
23 Acorda, Senhor! Por que estás dormindo? Levanta-te. Não nos rejeites para sempre.
24 Wherefore hidest thou thy face? and forgettest our miserie and our affliction?
24 Por que te escondes de nós? Por que esqueces dos nossos sofrimentos e das nossas aflições?
25 For our soule is beaten downe vnto the dust: our belly cleaueth vnto the ground.
25 Nós estamos abatidos, caídos no chão; estamos vencidos, jogados no pó.
26 Rise vp for our succour, and redeeme vs for thy mercies sake.
26 Levanta-te e vem ajudar-nos. Salva-nos por causa do teu amor.
