1 Do now, ye rich men, weep ye, yelling in your wretchednesses that shall come to you.
1 Ouçam agora vocês, ricos! Chorem e lamentem-se, tendo em vista a miséria que lhes sobrevirá.
2 Your riches be rotten, and your clothes be eaten of moths. (Your riches have rotted, and your clothes have been eaten by moths.)
2 A riqueza de vocês apodreceu, e as traças corroeram as suas roupas.
3 Your gold and silver hath rusted, and the rust of them shall be to you into witnessing, and shall eat your fleshes, as fire. Ye have treasured to you wrath in the last days. (Your gold and silver have rusted, and their rust shall be the testimony against you, and shall eat your flesh, like fire. Ye have piled up wealth for yourselves in the Last Days.)
3 O ouro e a prata de vocês enferrujaram, e a ferrugem deles testemunhará contra vocês e como fogo lhes devorará a carne. Vocês acumularam bens nestes últimos dias.
4 Lo! the hire of your workmen, that reaped your fields, which is defrauded of you, crieth; and the cry of them hath entered into the ears of the Lord of hosts. (Behold! the wages of your workers, who harvested your fields, and who were defrauded by you, crieth out; and their cry hath entered into the ears of the Lord of hosts.)
4 Vejam, o salário dos trabalhadores que ceifaram os seus campos, e que por vocês foi retido com fraude, está clamando contra vocês. O lamento dos ceifeiros chegou aos ouvidos do Senhor dos Exércitos.
5 Ye have eaten on the earth, and in your lecheries ye have nourished your hearts. In the day of slaying
5 Vocês viveram luxuosamente na terra, desfrutando prazeres, e fartaram-se de comida em dia de abate.
6 ye brought, and slew the just Man, and he against-stood not you. [ye led to, and slew the just man, and he withstood you not \+sls (or and he did not withstand you)\+sls*.](ye condemned, and killed the Just Man, and he did not oppose you, or and he did not stand against you.)
6 Vocês têm condenado e matado o justo, sem que ele ofereça resistência.
7 Therefore, brethren, be ye patient, till to the coming of the Lord. Lo! an earth-tiller abideth [the] precious fruit of the earth, patiently suffering, till he receive timeful and lateful fruit. (And so brothers, endure, until the coming of the Lord. Behold! a farmer waiteth for the precious fruit from the earth, yea, patiently waiting, until he receive \+em (the fruit)\+em* in its time, and then even a later harvest.)
7 Portanto, irmãos, sejam pacientes até a vinda do Senhor. Vejam como o agricultor aguarda que a terra produza a preciosa colheita e como espera com paciência até virem as chuvas do outono e da primavera.
8 And be ye patient, and confirm ye your hearts, for the coming of the Lord shall nigh. (And so be patient, and make your hearts firm, for the coming of the Lord shall approach, or it is near.)
8 Sejam também pacientes e fortaleçam o coração, pois a vinda do Senhor está próxima.
9 Brethren, do not ye be sorrowful [or do not ye be scornful] each to (the) other, that ye be not deemed (or so that ye be not judged). Lo! the judge standeth nigh before the gate.
9 Irmãos, não se queixem uns dos outros, para que não sejam julgados. O Juiz já está às portas!
10 Brethren, take ye (an) ensample of evil going out, and of long abiding, and travail, [or and of \+sls (the)\+sls* long abiding of travail], and of patience, the prophets, that spake to you in the name of the Lord, (or the prophets, who spoke to you in the name of the Lord).
10 Irmãos, tenham os profetas que falaram em nome do Senhor como exemplo de paciência diante do sofrimento.
11 Lo! we bless them that suffered. Ye have heard (of) the patience of Job, and ye saw the end of the Lord (or and ye saw his end with the Lord), for the Lord is merciful, and doing mercy.
11 Como vocês sabem, nós consideramos felizes aqueles que mostraram perseverança. Vocês ouviram falar sobre a paciência de Jó e viram o fim que o Senhor lhe proporcionou. O Senhor é cheio de compaixão e misericórdia.
12 Before all things, my brethren, do not ye swear, neither by heaven, neither by earth, neither by whatever other oath. But be your word Yea, yea, Nay, nay, that ye fall not under doom (or so that ye do not fall under judgement).
12 Sobretudo, meus irmãos, não jurem nem pelo céu, nem pela terra, nem por qualquer outra coisa. Seja o sim de vocês, sim, e o não, não, para que não caiam em condenação.
13 And if any of you is sorrowful, [or \+sls (is)\+sls* heavy], pray he with (a) patient soul, and say he a psalm.
13 Entre vocês há alguém que está sofrendo? Que ele ore. Há alguém que se sente feliz? Que ele cante louvores.
14 If any of you is sick, lead he in (some) priests of the church (or send he for some priests from the church), and pray they for him, and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord;
14 Entre vocês há alguém que está doente? Que ele mande chamar os presbíteros da igreja, para que estes orem sobre ele e o unjam com óleo, em nome do Senhor.
15 and the prayer of faith shall save the sick man[or and the prayer of faith shall save the sick], and the Lord shall make him light (or and the Lord shall put him at ease); and if he be in sins, they shall be forgiven to him.
15 E a oração feita com fé curará o doente; o Senhor o levantará. E se houver cometido pecados, ele será perdoado.
16 Therefore acknowledge ye each to (the) other your sins, and pray ye each for (the) other, (so) that ye be saved. For the continual prayer of a just man is (of) much worth.
16 Portanto, confessem os seus pecados uns aos outros e orem uns pelos outros para serem curados. A oração de um justo é poderosa e eficaz.
17 Elias was a deadly man like us (or Elijah was a mortal man like us), and in prayer he prayed, that it should not rain on the earth, and it rained not (for) three years and six months.
17 Elias era humano como nós. Ele orou fervorosamente para que não chovesse, e não choveu sobre a terra durante três anos e meio.
18 And again he prayed, and heaven gave rain, and the earth gave his fruit (or and the land brought forth its fruit).
18 Orou outra vez, e o céu enviou chuva, e a terra produziu os seus frutos.
19 And, brethren, if any of you erreth from (the) truth, and any converteth him,
19 Meus irmãos, se algum de vocês se desviar da verdade e alguém o trouxer de volta,
20 he oweth to know, that he that maketh a sinner to be turned from the error of his way(s), shall save the soul of him from death, and covereth the multitude of sins. [Amen.](he ought to know, that he who maketh a sinner to turn from the error of his ways, shall save his soul from death, and covereth a multitude of sins. Amen.)
