¹ Whether thou shalt be able to draw out Leviathan with an hook, and shalt bind with a rope his tongue? (Shalt thou be able to draw out \+em this\+em* Leviathan with a hook, or bind his tongue with a rope?)

¹ Poderás tirar com anzol o leviatã, ou apertar-lhe a língua com uma corda?

² Whether thou shalt put a ring in his nostrils, either shalt pierce his cheek[bone] with an hook? (Shalt thou put a ring in his nostrils, or pierce his cheekbone with a hook?)

² Poderás meter-lhe uma corda de junco no nariz, ou com um gancho furar a sua queixada?

³ Whether he shall multiply prayers to thee, either shall speak soft things to thee? (Shall he say many prayers to thee, \+em pleading and begging\+em*, or speak soft things to thee?)

³ Porventura te fará muitas súplicas, ou brandamente te falará?

⁴ Whether he shall make a covenant with thee, and shalt thou take him (for) a servant everlasting? (Shall he make a covenant with thee, and then shalt thou make him thy everlasting servant?)

⁴ Fará ele aliança contigo, ou o tomarás tu por servo para sempre?

⁵ Whether thou shalt scorn him as a bird, either shalt thou bind him to thine handmaidens? (Shalt thou scorn him like a bird, or shalt thou bind him up for thy servantesses?)

⁵ Brincarás com ele, como se fora um pássaro, ou o prenderás para tuas meninas?

⁶ Shall friends carve him (up), shall merchants part him (among themselves)?

⁶ Farão os sócios de pesca tráfico dele, ou o dividirão entre os negociantes?

⁷ Whether thou shalt fill nets with his skin, and a fish basket with his head? (Shalt thou fill his skin with harpoons, or his head with fish-hooks?)

⁷ Poderás encher-lhe a pele de arpões, ou a cabeça de fisgas?

⁸ Shalt thou put thine hand upon him? have thou mind of the battle, and add thou no more to speak, (or remember the battle, and add thou no more to speak about it).

⁸ Põe a tua mão sobre ele; lembra-te da peleja; nunca mais o farás!

⁹ Lo! his hope shall deceive him; and in the sight of all men he shall be cast down. (Behold! his hope shall deceive him; and he shall be thrown down in front of all the people.)

⁹ Eis que é vã a esperança de apanhá-lo; pois não será um homem derrubado só ao vê-lo?

¹⁰ I not as cruel shall raise him; for who may against-stand my face? (Who would even dare raise up one who is so fierce? yea, who can stand before his face?)

¹⁰ Ninguém há tão ousado, que se atreva a despertá-lo; quem, pois, é aquele que pode erguer-se diante de mim?

¹¹ And who gave to me before, that I yield to him? (or And who ever gave anything to me, that I could give back to him?) All things, that be under heaven, be mine.

¹¹ Quem primeiro me deu a mim, para que eu haja de retribuir-lhe? Pois tudo quanto existe debaixo de todo céu é meu.

¹² I shall not spare him for his mighty words, and made fair to beseech with. (And I shall not forget to speak of his limbs, his might, and his beautiful, \+em or his comely\+em*, shape.)

¹² Não me calarei a respeito dos seus membros, nem da sua grande força, nem da graça da sua estrutura.

¹³ Who shall show the face of his clothing, and who shall enter into the midst of his mouth? (Who shall open his outer clothing, \+em or his hide\+em*? and who shall pass by the bridle of his mouth?)

¹³ Quem lhe pode tirar o vestido exterior? Quem lhe penetrará a couraça dupla?

¹⁴ Who shall open the gates of his cheer? fearedfulness is by the compass of his teeth. (Who shall open the gates of his face, \+em or his lips\+em*? for terror cometh from his teeth.)

¹⁴ Quem jamais abriu as portas do seu rosto? Pois em roda dos seus dentes está o terror.

¹⁵ His body is as molten shields of brass, and joined together with scales overlaying themselves. (His body \+em is\+em* like bronze shields, yea, scales joined together and overlaying each other.)

¹⁵ As suas fortes escamas são o seu orgulho, cada uma fechada como por um selo apertado.

¹⁶ One is joined to another; and soothly breathing goeth not through those (or and truly a breath cannot go between them).

¹⁶ Uma à outra se chega tão perto, que nem o ar passa por entre elas.

¹⁷ One shall cleave to another, and those pieces holding together themselves shall not be parted. (One shall cleave to the other, and those \+em pieces\+em* holding themselves \+em together\+em* cannot be parted.)

¹⁷ Umas às outras se ligam; tanto aderem entre si, que não se podem separar.

¹⁸ His neesing is as (the) shining of fire, and his eyes be as (the) eyelids of the morrowtide. (His sneezing or His snorting \+em sendeth out\+em* shots of lightning, and his eyes \+em shine\+em* like the breaking of the day.)

¹⁸ Os seus espirros fazem resplandecer a luz, e os seus olhos são como as pestanas da alva.

¹⁹ Lights come forth of his mouth, as brands of fire, that be kindled. (Lightnings come forth from his mouth, like kindled firebrands.)

¹⁹ Da sua boca saem tochas; faíscas de fogo saltam dela.

²⁰ Smoke cometh forth of his nostrils, as a boiling pot set upon the fire. (Smoke cometh forth from his nostrils, like a boiling pot put on the fire.)

²⁰ Dos seus narizes procede fumaça, como de uma panela que ferve, e de juncos que ardem.

²¹ His breath maketh coals to burn, and (a) flame goeth out of his mouth.

²¹ O seu hálito faz incender os carvões, e da sua boca sai uma chama.

²² Strength shall dwell in his neck, and neediness shall go (away from) before his face.

²² No seu pescoço reside a força; e diante dele anda saltando o terror.

²³ The members of his flesh be cleaving together to themselves; God shall send floods against him, and those shall not be borne over to another place.

²³ Os tecidos da sua carne estão pegados entre si; ela é firme sobre ele, não se pode mover.

²⁴ His heart shall be made (as) hard as a stone; and it shall be constrained (al)together as the anvil of a smith (or and it shall be firm and unyielding, like the anvil of a smith).

²⁴ O seu coração é firme como uma pedra; sim, firme como a pedra inferior duma mó.

²⁵ When he shall be taken away, angels shall dread; and they afeared shall be purged. (When he raiseth himself up, even the mighty shall be afraid; and they who be afraid shall be purged, \+em or shall be purified\+em*.)

²⁵ Quando ele se levanta, os valentes são atemorizados, e por causa da consternação ficam fora de si.

²⁶ When sword taketh him, it may not stand, neither spear, neither habergeon. (And when a sword trieth to take him, it shall not succeed, nor a spear, nor a dagger.)

²⁶ Se alguém o atacar com a espada, essa não poderá penetrar; nem tampouco a lança, nem o dardo, nem o arpão.

²⁷ For he shall areckon iron as chaff, and brass as rotten wood (or and bronze like rotten wood).

²⁷ Ele considera o ferro como palha, e o bronze como pau podre.

²⁸ A man archer shall not drive him away; [the] stones of a sling be turned into stubble to him.

²⁸ A seta não o poderá fazer fugir; para ele as pedras das fundas se tornam em restolho.

²⁹ He shall areckon an hammer as stubble; and he shall scorn a flourishing spear (or and he shall have scorn for the spear that is flourished, \+em or shaken\+em*, at him).

²⁹ Os bastões são reputados como juncos, e ele se ri do brandir da lança.

³⁰ The beams of the sun shall be under him; and he shall strew to himself gold as clay. (Sharp stones shall be under him; and he shall spread abroad pointed shards upon the clay.)

³⁰ Debaixo do seu ventre há pontas agudas; ele se estende como um trilho sobre o lodo.

³¹ He shall make the deep sea to boil as a pot; and he shall put it, as when ointments boil.

³¹ As profundezas faz ferver, como uma panela; torna o mar como uma vasilha de ungüento.

³² A path shall shine after him; he shall guess the great ocean as waxing eld. (He maketh a path to shine after him; and the great ocean as if growing old, \+em that is, white with foam\+em*.)

³² Após si deixa uma vereda luminosa; parece o abismo tornado em brancura de cãs.

³³ No power there is on earth, that shall be comparisoned to him; which is made, that he should dread nothing. (There is no power on earth, that can be compared to him; nothing which is made, that he should fear.)

³³ Na terra não há coisa que se lhe possa comparar; pois foi feito para estar sem pavor.

³⁴ He seeth all high thing[s]; he is king over all the sons of pride.

³⁴ Ele vê tudo o que é alto; é rei sobre todos os filhos da soberba.
