1 Later, Jesus went to Jerusalem for a Jewish festival.
1 Algum tempo depois, Jesus subiu a Jerusalém para uma festa dos judeus.
2 Near Sheep Gate in Jerusalem was a pool called Bethesda in Hebrew. It had five porches.
2 Há em Jerusalém, perto da porta das Ovelhas, um tanque que, em aramaico, é chamado Betesda, tendo cinco entradas em volta.
3 Under these porches a large number of sick people—people who were blind, lame, or paralyzed—used to lie.
3 Ali costumava ficar grande número de pessoas doentes e inválidas: cegos, mancos e paralíticos. Eles esperavam um movimento nas águas.

4 De vez em quando descia um anjo do Senhor e agitava as águas. O primeiro que entrasse no tanque, depois de agitada as águas, era curado de qualquer doença que tivesse.
5 One man, who had been sick for 38 years, was lying there.
5 Um dos que estavam ali era paralítico fazia trinta e oito anos.
6 Jesus saw the man lying there and knew that he had been sick for a long time. So Jesus asked the man, “Would you like to get well?”
6 Quando o viu deitado e soube que ele vivia naquele estado durante tanto tempo, Jesus lhe perguntou: "Você quer ser curado? "
7 The sick man answered Jesus, “Sir, I don’t have anyone to put me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I’m trying to get there, someone else steps into the pool ahead of me.”
7 Disse o paralítico: "Senhor, não tenho ninguém que me ajude a entrar no tanque quando a água é agitada. Enquanto estou tentando entrar, outro chega antes de mim".
8 Jesus told the man, “Get up, pick up your cot, and walk.”
8 Então Jesus lhe disse: "Levante-se! Pegue a sua maca e ande".
9 The man immediately became well, picked up his cot, and walked.
9 Imediatamente o homem ficou curado, pegou a maca e começou a andar. Isso aconteceu num sábado,
10 So the Jews told the man who had been healed, “This is a day of rest—a holy day. You’re not allowed to carry your cot today.”
10 e, por essa razão, os judeus disseram ao homem que havia sido curado: "Hoje é sábado, não lhe é permitido carregar a maca".
11 The man replied, “The man who made me well told me to pick up my cot and walk.”
11 Mas ele respondeu: "O homem que me curou me disse: ‘Pegue a sua maca e ande’ ".
12 The Jews asked him, “Who is the man who told you to pick it up and walk?”
12 Então lhe perguntaram: "Quem é esse homem que lhe mandar pegar a maca e andar? "
13 But the man who had been healed didn’t know who Jesus was. (Jesus had withdrawn from the crowd.)
13 O homem que fora curado não tinha idéia de quem era ele, pois Jesus havia desaparecido no meio da multidão.
14 Later, Jesus met the man in the temple courtyard and told him, “You’re well now. Stop sinning so that something worse doesn’t happen to you.”
14 Mais tarde Jesus o encontrou no templo e lhe disse: "Olhe, você está curado. Não volte a pecar, para que algo pior não lhe aconteça".
15 The man went back to the Jews and told them that Jesus was the man who had made him well.
15 O homem foi contar aos judeus que fora Jesus quem o tinha curado.
16 The Jews began to persecute Jesus because he kept healing people on the day of rest—a holy day.
16 Então os judeus passaram a perseguir Jesus, porque ele estava fazendo essas coisas no sábado.
17 Jesus replied to them, “My Father is working right now, and so am I.”
17 Disse-lhes Jesus: "Meu Pai continua trabalhando até hoje, e eu também estou trabalhando".
18 His reply made the Jews more intent on killing him. Not only did he break the laws about the day of rest—a holy day, but also he made himself equal to God when he said repeatedly that God was his Father.
18 Por essa razão, os judeus mais ainda queriam matá-lo, pois não somente estava violando o sábado, mas também estava até mesmo dizendo que Deus era seu próprio Pai, igualando-se a Deus.
19 Jesus said to the Jews, “I can guarantee this truth: The Son cannot do anything on his own. He can do only what he sees the Father doing. Indeed, the Son does exactly what the Father does.
19 Jesus lhes deu esta resposta: "Eu lhes digo verdadeiramente que o Filho não pode fazer nada de si mesmo; só pode fazer o que vê o Pai fazer, porque o que o Pai faz o Filho também faz.
20 The Father loves the Son and shows him everything he is doing. The Father will show him even greater things to do than these things so that you will be amazed.
20 Pois o Pai ama ao Filho e lhe mostra tudo o que faz. Sim, para admiração de vocês, ele lhe mostrará obras ainda maiores do que estas.
21 In the same way that the Father brings back the dead and gives them life, the Son gives life to anyone he chooses.
21 Pois, da mesma forma que o Pai ressuscita os mortos e lhes dá vida, o Filho também dá vida a quem ele quer dá-la.
22 “The Father doesn’t judge anyone. He has entrusted judgment entirely to the Son
22 Além disso, o Pai a ninguém julga, mas confiou todo julgamento ao Filho,
23 so that everyone will honor the Son as they honor the Father. Whoever doesn’t honor the Son doesn’t honor the Father who sent him.
23 para que todos honrem o Filho como honram o Pai. Aquele que não honra o Filho, também não honra o Pai que o enviou.
24 I can guarantee this truth: Those who listen to what I say and believe in the one who sent me will have eternal life. They won’t be judged because they have already passed from death to life.
24 "Eu lhes asseguro: Quem ouve a minha palavra e crê naquele que me enviou, tem a vida eterna e não será condenado, mas já passou da morte para a vida.
25 “I can guarantee this truth: A time is coming (and is now here) when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who respond to it will live.
25 Eu lhes afirmo que está chegando a hora, e já chegou, em que os mortos ouvirão a voz do Filho de Deus, e aqueles que a ouvirem, viverão.
26 The Father is the source of life, and he has enabled the Son to be the source of life too.
26 Pois, da mesma forma como o Pai tem vida em si mesmo, ele concedeu ao Filho ter vida em si mesmo.
27 “He has also given the Son authority to pass judgment because he is the Son of Man.
27 E deu-lhe autoridade para julgar, porque é o Filho do homem.
28 Don’t be surprised at what I’ve just said. A time is coming when all the dead will hear his voice,
28 "Não fiquem admirados com isto, pois está chegando a hora em que todos os que estiverem nos túmulos ouvirão a sua voz
29 and they will come out of their tombs. Those who have done good will come back to life and live. But those who have done evil will come back to life and will be judged.
29 e sairão; os que fizeram o bem ressuscitarão para a vida, e os que fizeram o mal ressuscitarão para serem condenados.
30 I can’t do anything on my own. As I listen ⌞to the Father⌟, I make my judgments. My judgments are right because I don’t try to do what I want but what the one who sent me wants.
30 Por mim mesmo, nada posso fazer; eu julgo apenas conforme ouço, e o meu julgamento é justo, pois não procuro agradar a mim mesmo, mas àquele que me enviou".
31 “If I testify on my own behalf, what I say isn’t true.
31 "Se testifico acerca de mim mesmo, o meu testemunho não é válido.
32 Someone else testifies on my behalf, and I know that what he says about me is true.
32 Há outro que testemunha em meu favor, e sei que o seu testemunho a meu respeito é válido.
33 You sent people to John ⌞the Baptizer⌟, and he testified to the truth.
33 "Vocês enviaram representantes a João, e ele testemunhou da verdade.
34 But I don’t depend on human testimony. I’m telling you this to save you.
34 Não que eu busque testemunho humano, mas menciono isso para que vocês sejam salvos.
35 John was a lamp that gave off brilliant light. For a time you enjoyed the pleasure of his light.
35 João era uma candeia que queimava e irradiava luz, e durante certo tempo vocês quiseram alegrar-se com a sua luz.
36 But I have something that testifies more favorably on my behalf than John’s testimony. The tasks that the Father gave me to carry out, these tasks which I perform, testify on my behalf. They prove that the Father has sent me.
36 "Eu tenho um testemunho maior que o de João; a própria obra que o Pai me deu para concluir, e que estou realizando, testemunha que o Pai me enviou.
37 The Father who sent me testifies on my behalf. You have never heard his voice, and you have never seen his form.
37 E o Pai que me enviou, ele mesmo testemunhou a meu respeito. Vocês nunca ouviram a sua voz, nem viram a sua forma,
38 So you don’t have the Father’s message within you, because you don’t believe in the person he has sent.
38 nem a sua palavra habita em vocês, pois não crêem naquele que ele enviou.
39 You study the Scriptures in detail because you think you have the source of eternal life in them. These Scriptures testify on my behalf.
39 Vocês estudam cuidadosamente as Escrituras, porque pensam que nelas vocês têm a vida eterna. E são as Escrituras que testemunham a meu respeito;
40 Yet, you don’t want to come to me to get ⌞eternal⌟ life.
40 contudo, vocês não querem vir a mim para terem vida.
41 “I don’t accept praise from humans.
41 "Eu não aceito glória dos homens,
42 But I know what kind of people you are. You don’t have any love for God.
42 mas conheço vocês. Sei que vocês não têm o amor de Deus.
43 I have come with the authority my Father has given me, but you don’t accept me. If someone else comes with his own authority, you will accept him.
43 Eu vim em nome de meu Pai, e vocês não me aceitaram; mas, se outro vier em seu próprio nome, vocês o aceitarão.
44 How can you believe when you accept each other’s praise and don’t look for the praise that comes from the only God?
44 Como vocês podem crer, se aceitam glória uns dos outros, mas não procuram a glória que vem do Deus único?
45 “Don’t think that I will accuse you in the presence of the Father. Moses, the one you trust, is already accusing you.
45 "Contudo, não pensem que eu os acusarei perante o Pai. Quem os acusa é Moisés, em quem estão as suas esperanças.
46 If you really believed Moses, you would believe me. Moses wrote about me.
46 Se vocês cressem em Moisés, creriam em mim, pois ele escreveu a meu respeito.
47 If you don’t believe what Moses wrote, how will you ever believe what I say?”
47 Visto, porém, que não crêem no que ele escreveu, como crerão no que eu digo? "
