1 Later on, Joseph said to the man that looked after his house and workers, “Fill up their bags with food, and put their money in the top of each bag again.
1 José deu esta ordem ao intendente de sua casa: "Enche de víveres os sacos destes homens tanto quanto possam conter, e põe o dinheiro de cada um na boca do saco.
2 When you fill up the bag that belongs to the youngest man, put my silver cup in the bag with his money.” The worker did what Joseph said.
2 Porás minha taça de prata na boca do saco do mais novo, com o preço do seu trigo". E fez o intendente como José lhe mandara.
3 The next morning, the 11 brothers were allowed to leave with their donkeys and food bags.
3 De manhã, ao romper do dia, foram despedidos com seus jumentos.
4 They had not gone very far when Joseph said to the man that looked after his house, “Go after those men and say, ‘We did good things for you. Why did you pay us back by doing a bad thing?
4 Deixaram a cidade, mas, não tendo ido ainda muito longe, José disse ao seu intendente: "Levanta-te e persegue estes homens e, quando os tiveres alcançado, dir-lhes-ás: Por que pagastes o bem com o mal?
5 My boss has a special silver drinking cup. That cup helps him to find out things using signs and magic. You stole it and so you have done a very bad thing.’”
5 {A taça que roubastes} é aquela em que bebe o meu senhor e da qual se serve para suas adivinhações. Fizestes muito mal."
6 The worker followed Joseph's brothers and when he found them, he told them what Joseph said.
6 O intendente, tendo-os alcançado, falou-lhes desse modo.
7 But the brothers said, “What are you talking about? We would not do that.
7 Eles responderam-lhe: "Por que fala assim o meu senhor? Longe de teus servos a idéia de fazerem semelhante coisa!
8 We are good men. We carried back the money we found in our bags last time. And so we would not steal any silver or gold from the house your boss lives in.
8 Nós te trouxemos de Canaã o dinheiro que tínhamos encontrado na boca dos sacos. Por que, pois, haveríamos de roubar prata ou ouro na casa de teu senhor?
9 Have a look in our bags. If you find the silver cup, then kill the man who owns the bag and the rest of us will work for you for no pay. We will be your slaves.”
9 Que aquele dos teus servos com quem for encontrada a taça morra, e, ao mesmo tempo, nós nos tornemos escravos do meu senhor".
10 The worker said to the men, “Ok, we will do as you say, but the man who took the cup will be our slave and the rest of you can go free.”
10 "Está bem! disse-lhes ele. Seja como dissestes! Aquele com quem for encontrada a taça será meu escravo. Vós outros sereis livres."
11 Straight away, each brother took his bag off his donkey, put it on the ground and opened it.
11 E, imediatamente, pôs cada um o seu saco por terra e o abriu.
12 The worker looked in every bag. He started with the oldest brother until he got to the youngest brother. He found the silver cup in Benjamin's bag.
12 O intendente revistou-os começando pelo mais velho e acabando pelo mais novo; e a taça foi encontrada no saco de Benjamim.
13 When the brothers saw the man find the silver cup, they ripped their clothes to show how upset they were. Then the brothers put their bags onto their donkeys and they all went back to the town.
13 Eles rasgaram suas vestes e, tendo cada um carregado de novo o seu jumento, voltaram para a cidade.
14 When Judah and his brothers went into Joseph's house, Joseph was there waiting for them. The brothers bowed face down to the ground in front of him.
14 Judá e seus irmãos entraram em casa de José, que estava ainda em sua casa, e prostraram-se por terra diante dele.
15 Joseph said, “Why did you do this to me? Didn't you know that a man like me can find out things by signs and magic?”
15 José disse-lhes: "Que é isso que fizestes? Não sabíeis que sou um homem dotado da faculdade de adivinhar?"
16 Judah said, “We don't know what to say to you. There is no way we can make you believe that we are not guilty. God has shown that we are guilty and so we will all be your slaves, not just Benjamin.”
16 Judá respondeu: "Que podemos dizer a meu senhor? Que falaremos? Como nos justificar? Deus descobriu o crime de teus servos. Somos os escravos do meu senhor, nós e aquele junto de quem foi encontrada a taça."
17 But Joseph said, “No. I would not do that. Only the man who stole my cup will be my slave. The rest of you can go home to your father.”
17 "Longe de mim, replicou José, o pensamento de agir dessa forma! Mas aquele em poder de quem foi encontrada a taça, esse será o meu escravo. Vós outros, voltai em paz para junto de vosso pai."
18 Judah went to Joseph and said, “Sir, I know you are a very powerful man. You are like Pharaoh himself and so please do not be angry with me. Can I tell you our story?
18 Então Judá adiantou-se e disse a José: "Rogo-te, meu senhor, que permitas ao teu servo dizer uma palavra aos ouvidos do meu senhor, e não se acenda a tua ira contra o teu servo, porque tu és como o próprio faraó.
19 The last time we were here, you asked us, ‘Do you have a father or a brother?’
19 Meu senhor havia perguntado aos seus servos: Tendes ainda vosso pai? Tendes um irmão?
20 And we answered you and said, ‘Yes we have an old father, and we have a younger brother who was born when our father was very old.’ We used to have another brother, but he is dead. Benjamin is the only child left from that mother and so our father loves him very much.
20 E nós havíamos respondido ao meu senhor que tínhamos um velho pai e um irmãozinho, filho de sua velhice, do qual o irmão havia morrido; e que, como ele foi deixado o único de sua mãe, seu pai o amava.
21 You said to us, ‘Bring that brother to me. I want to see him.’
21 Disseste aos teus servos: Trazei-o para junto de mim, a fim de que o veja com meus olhos.
22 And we said to you, ‘No, we can't bring him to you. The boy cannot leave his father or his father will die.’
22 Havíamos respondido ao meu senhor que o menino não podia abandonar o seu pai, pois, se o fizesse, seu pai morreria.
23 But you said, ‘If you do not bring your youngest brother, you will not be allowed to see me again.’
23 E disseste aos teus servos: Se vosso irmãozinho não vier convosco, não sereis admitidos na minha presença.
24 So we went home and told our father what you said.
24 Quando voltamos para a casa do teu servo, nosso pai, referimos-lhe as palavras do meu senhor.
25 Later, when all the food was gone, our father said to us, ‘Go back to Egypt and buy us some more food.’
25 E, quando nosso pai nos mandou voltar para comprar alguns víveres,
26 We said to him, ‘We can't go back there. The man said that he would not see us if we did not take our youngest brother.’
26 respondemos-lhe: Não podemos descer. Mas, se nosso irmão mais novo nos acompanhar, fá-lo-emos, pois que não seremos admitidos na presença do governador, se nosso irmão não for conosco.
27 Then our father said to us, ‘My wife Rachel only had 2 sons.
27 Teu servo, nosso pai, nos replicou: Sabeis que minha mulher me deu dois filhos.
28 I lost the first son. A wild animal ripped him apart and I never saw him again.
28 Um desapareceu de minha casa, e eu disse: Certamente foi devorado. E não mais o revi até hoje.
29 Now you want to take Rachel's second son away from me too. I am frightened that something bad will happen to him. If anything happened to him I would be really sad until I die.’
29 Se me tirais ainda este, e lhe acontecer alguma desgraça, fareis descer os meus cabelos brancos à habitação dos mortos, sob o peso da dor.
30 So, if I go home without Benjamin, I do not know what will happen. That boy is the most important thing in our father's life.
30 Se agora volto para junto de teu servo, meu pai, sem levar conosco o menino, ele, cuja vida está ligada à do menino,
31 I think if we go home without Benjamin, our father will be so sad, he will die and it will be our fault.
31 desde que notar que ele não está conosco, morrerá. E teus servos terão feito descer à habitação dos mortos, sob o peso da aflição, os cabelos brancos do teu servo, nosso pai.
32 Before I left Canaan, I made a promise to my father to keep the boy safe. I said to him, ‘I promise you that I will bring the boy back to you. If I do not bring him back to you, you can blame me all my life.’
32 Ora, o teu servo respondeu pelo menino junto de meu pai; e disse-lhe que, se ele não lho reconduzisse, seria eternamente culpado para com seu pai.
33 So, can you let Benjamin go home with his brothers.
33 Rogo-te, pois: aceita que teu servo fique escravo de meu senhor em lugar do menino, para que este possa voltar com seus irmãos.
34 I can't go home if the boy is not with me. I can't let my father have so much pain.”
34 Como poderia eu apresentar-me diante do meu pai, se o menino não for comigo? Oh, eu não poderia suportar a dor que sobreviria a meu pai!"
