1 Right from the start, God was good to Abraham. And now that Abraham was really old he wanted to find a wife for his son Isaac.
1 Abraão já era velho, de idade bem avançada, e o Senhor em tudo o abençoara.

2 Disse ele ao servo mais velho de sua casa, que era o responsável por tudo quanto tinha: "Ponha a mão debaixo da minha coxa

4 I want you to go back to my homeland, and get a wife for Isaac from my relatives.” Abraham's worker promised to find a wife for Isaac|src="lll1-21Abraham &servant wife-Isaac.tif" size="col" copy="Global Records Network" ref="24:4"
4 mas irá à minha terra e buscará entre os meus parentes uma mulher para meu filho Isaque".
5 The worker asked, “What if the woman does not want to leave her homeland and come here. What do you want me to do then? Maybe I could send Isaac back there to find a wife for himself.”
5 O servo lhe perguntou: "E se a mulher não quiser vir comigo a esta terra? Devo então levar teu filho de volta à terra de onde vieste? "
6 Abraham answered, “No way! Make sure you do not take Isaac back to my homeland.
6 "Cuidado! ", disse Abraão, "Não deixe o meu filho voltar para lá.
7 The God who made Heaven told me to leave my country and all my relations. He led me to this country and made a strong promise to me. He said, ‘I will give this country to all the family that comes from you’.
7 "O Senhor, o Deus dos céus, que me tirou da casa de meu pai e de minha terra natal e que me prometeu sob juramento que à minha descendência daria esta terra, enviará o seu anjo adiante de você para que de lá traga uma mulher para meu filho.
8 But if the woman God shows you does not want to leave her homeland and come here to marry Isaac, you are free from your promise to me and to God. But I tell you again. You must not take my son back to my homeland.”
8 Se a mulher não quiser vir, você estará livre do juramento. Mas não leve o meu filho de volta para lá".
9 So the worker did what Abraham asked him to do. He put his hand on Abraham's leg and said out loud, “I promise to go and find a wife for Isaac from your countrymen. And I promise that I will never take Isaac out of this country.”
9 Então o servo pôs a mão debaixo da coxa de Abraão, seu senhor, e jurou cumprir aquela palavra.
10 Then the worker took 10 camels to carry all the presents for Abraham's relations. The worker travelled east and a little bit north towards the place where Abraham's brother Nahor lived. Nahor's town was in a country called Meso-pot-aim-ia. This is between the 2 great rivers called the Tigris and You-Fray-tees.
10 O servo partiu, com dez camelos do seu senhor, levando também do que o seu senhor tinha de melhor. Partiu para a Mesopotâmia, em direção à cidade onde Naor tinha morado.
11 The worker and his camels walked for many days until they got to the town where Nahor lived. Abraham's worker made the camels get down on their knees to rest at a waterhole just outside the town. When it was nearly night time, the young girls from the town came out to the waterhole to get water in their billycans.
11 Ao cair da tarde, quando as mulheres costumam sair para buscar água, ele fez os camelos se ajoelharem junto ao poço que ficava fora da cidade.
12 Then the worker prayed. He said, “O God, you are the one who looks after my boss Abraham, please be kind to him today.
12 Então orou: "SENHOR, Deus do meu senhor Abraão, dá-me neste dia bom êxito e seja bondoso com o meu senhor Abraão.
13 I am standing next to this waterhole and all the young girls from the town are coming out to get water. Please help me pick the right girl for Abraham's son, Isaac.
13 Como vês, estou aqui ao lado desta fonte, e as jovens do povo desta cidade estão vindo para tirar água.
14 I will say to one of them, ‘Can you give me a drink?’ If she says ‘Yes,’ and if she says, ‘I will give your camels a drink too’, then I will know that she is the girl you have picked for Isaac. And I will know that you have been very kind to my boss, Abraham.”
14 Concede que a jovem a quem eu disser: ‘Por favor, incline o seu cântaro e dê-me de beber’, e ela me responder: ‘Bebe; também darei água aos teus camelos’, seja essa a que escolheste para teu servo Isaque. Saberei assim que foste bondoso com o meu senhor".
15 The worker was still praying when Rebekah walked out of the town with a big billycan on her shoulder. Rebekah's father was named Bethuel and his parents were Milcah and Nahor. And Nahor was Abraham's brother.
15 Antes que ele terminasse de orar, surgiu Rebeca, filha de Betuel, filho de Milca, mulher de Naor, irmão de Abraão, trazendo no ombro o seu cântaro.
16 Rebekah was a very beautiful young girl who had never gone to bed with a man.
16 A jovem era muito bonita e virgem; nenhum homem tivera relações com ela. Rebeca desceu à fonte, encheu seu cântaro e voltou.
17 Abraham's worker ran to her and said, “Can I have a drink of water from your billycan?”
17 O servo apressou-se ao encontro dela e disse: "Por favor, dê-me um pouco de água do seu cântaro".
18 Rebekah answered, “Yes, my master, please have a drink.” And she gave him the billycan.
18 "Beba, meu senhor", disse ela, e tirou rapidamente dos ombros o cântaro e o serviu.
19 When Abraham's worker finished his drink, Rebekah said, “Wait, I will get water for your camels too.”
19 Depois que lhe deu de beber, disse: "Tirarei água também para os seus camelos até saciá-los".
20 Then she went quickly and put the rest of the water from the billycan into a big water bucket to let the camels have a drink. She went back to the waterhole to get water again and again, until all the camels finished drinking.
20 Assim ela esvaziou depressa seu cântaro no bebedouro e correu de volta ao poço para tirar mais água para todos os camelos.
21 Abraham's worker was standing quietly next to the waterhole. He was watching to see if God had answered his prayers and led him to the right girl for Isaac to marry.
21 Sem dizer nada, o homem a observava atentamente para saber se o Senhor tinha ou não coroado de êxito a sua missão.
22 When the camels had finished drinking, Abraham's worker got out a gold nose ring and 2 gold arm bands, and gave them to Rebekah.
22 Quando os camelos acabaram de beber, o homem deu à jovem um pendente de ouro de seis gramas e duas pulseiras de ouro de cento e vinte gramas,
23 He asked Rebekah, “Who is your father? Is there somewhere we can camp at your place?”
23 e perguntou: "De quem você é filha? Diga-me, por favor, se há lugar na casa de seu pai para eu e meus companheiros passarmos a noite".
24 Rebekah answered, “My father's name is Bethuel. And my grandparents are Milcah and Nahor.
24 "Sou filha de Betuel, o filho que Milca deu a Naor", respondeu ela;
25 We have plenty of room and food for you and your camels.”
25 e acrescentou: "Temos bastante palha e forragem, e também temos lugar para vocês passarem a noite".
26 Abraham's worker bowed down to show respect for the Lord.
26 Então o homem curvou-se em adoração ao Senhor,
27 He said, “Thank you God. Lord, you are so good. You have kept your promise and you have been very kind to my boss, Abraham. You have led me to his relations.”
27 dizendo: "Bendito seja o Senhor, o Deus do meu senhor Abraão, que não retirou sua bondade e sua fidelidade do meu senhor. Quanto a mim, o Senhor me conduziu na jornada até a casa dos parentes do meu senhor".

28 A jovem correu para casa e contou tudo à família de sua mãe.
29 — ausente —
29 Rebeca tinha um irmão chamado Labão. Ele saiu apressado à fonte para conhecer o homem,
30 — ausente —
30 pois tinha visto o pendente, e as pulseiras no braço de sua irmã, e ouvira Rebeca contar o que o homem lhe dissera. Saiu, pois, e foi encontrá-lo parado junto à fonte, ao lado dos camelos.
31 Laban said to Abraham's worker, “God has been good to you. He has kept you safe and led you to our camp. Don't stand out here at the waterhole but come home and stay with us. We have plenty of room for your camels.”
31 E disse: "Venha, bendito do Senhor! Por que ficar aí fora? Já arrumei a casa e um lugar para os camelos".
32 Abraham's worker and his men followed Laban to his camp. They took everything off the camels and gave the camels food to eat and grass to sleep on. The worker and his men were given some water so that they could wash their feet.
32 Assim o homem dirigiu-se à casa, e os camelos foram descarregados. Deram palha e forragem aos camelos, e água ao homem e aos que estavam com ele para lavarem os pés.
33 Then Rebekah's brother Laban gave them some food. But Abraham's worker said, “I cannot eat until I tell you why I came here.”
33 Depois lhe trouxeram comida, mas ele disse: "Não comerei enquanto não disser o que tenho para dizer". Disse Labão: "Então fale".
34 Abraham's worker said, “I work for Abraham.
34 E ele disse: "Sou servo de Abraão.
35 And God has been really good to him, he is a rich man now. God has given him a lot of sheep and cattle, camels and donkeys as well as a lot of men and women that work for him. He has a lot of money too.
35 O Senhor o abençoou muito, e ele se tornou muito rico. Deu-lhe ovelhas e bois, prata e ouro, servos e servas, camelos e jumentos.
36 Abraham's wife, Sarah was really old when God made a way for her to give Abraham a son, and so Abraham has given him everything.
36 Sara, mulher do meu senhor, na velhice lhe deu um filho, que é o herdeiro de tudo o que Abraão possui.
37 But Abraham was worried about getting a wife for his son, and so he made me make a promise out loud so that God was a witness. I had to say, ‘I will not get a wife for Isaac from any of the families in the Canaanite country where Abraham lives.’
37 E meu senhor fez-me jurar, dizendo: ‘Você não buscará mulher para meu filho entre as filhas dos cananeus, em cuja terra estou vivendo,
38 Abraham said to me, ‘You have to go to my homeland and find my relations. You should be able to find a wife for Isaac there.’
38 mas irá à família de meu pai, ao meu próprio clã, buscar uma mulher para meu filho’.
39 But I asked Abraham, ‘What if the young girl will not come with me?’
39 "Então perguntei a meu senhor: ‘E se a mulher não quiser me acompanhar? ’

40 "Ele respondeu: ‘O Senhor, a quem tenho servido, enviará seu anjo com você e coroará de êxito a sua missão, para que você traga para meu filho uma mulher do meu próprio clã, da família de meu pai.

41 Quando chegar aos meus parentes, você estará livre do juramento se eles se recusarem a entregá-la a você. Só então você estará livre do juramento’.
42 And so, when I got to the waterhole today, I prayed to God and said, ‘O God, I know my boss respects and trusts you. So please help me finish the job he sent me to do.’
42 "Hoje, quando cheguei à fonte, eu disse: Ó Senhor, Deus do meu senhor Abraão, se assim desejares, dá êxito à missão de que fui incumbido.
43 I said, ‘God, I am standing next to this waterhole and I will wait for a young girl to come and get water. I will say to her, “Please can I have a drink of water from your billycan?” ’
43 Aqui estou em pé diante desta fonte; se uma moça vier tirar água e eu lhe disser: ‘Por favor, dê-me de beber um pouco de seu cântaro’,
44 And if she says to me, ‘Yes, have a drink and I will get water for your camels too,’ then I will know that she is the girl you have picked for Abraham's son.
44 e ela me responder: ‘Bebe. Também darei água aos teus camelos’, seja essa a que o Senhor escolheu para o filho do meu senhor.
45 Even before I finished praying, Rebekah came out from your camp with her billycan. She went down and got water from the waterhole. And when she came out I asked her, ‘Please can I have a drink of water from your billycan?’
45 "Antes de terminar de orar em meu coração, surgiu Rebeca, com o cântaro ao ombro. Dirigiu-se à fonte e tirou água, e eu lhe disse: Por favor, dê-me de beber.
46 Straight away she put her billycan down and said, ‘Yes, have a drink and I will get water for your camels too.’ So I had a drink and she gave water to my camels.
46 "Ela se apressou a tirar o cântaro do ombro e disse: ‘Bebe; também darei água aos teus camelos’. Eu bebi, e ela deu de beber também aos camelos.
47 Then I asked her, ‘Who is your father?’
47 "Depois lhe perguntei: ‘De quem você é filha? ’ "Ela me respondeu: ‘De Betuel, filho de Naor e Milca’. "Então coloquei o pendente em seu nariz e as pulseiras em seus braços,
48 Then I bowed my head and said, ‘Thank you’ to the God that my master Abraham respects. It was God who had led me straight to my master's relatives and to my master's niece. It was God that helped me find a wife for my master's son.
48 e curvei-me em adoração ao Senhor. Bendisse ao Senhor, o Deus do meu senhor Abraão, que me guiou pelo caminho certo para buscar para o filho dele a neta do irmão do meu senhor.
49 And so now you have heard my story. Will you do the right thing for Abraham and be kind to him? Will you let me take Rebekah home with me? If you say no, I will make other plans.”
49 Agora, se quiserem mostrar fidelidade e bondade a meu senhor, digam-me; e, se não quiserem, digam-me também, para que eu decida o que fazer".
50 Rebekah's brother Laban and her father Bethuel answered, “We believe your story and we can see that God made all this happen. We cannot change God's plan.
50 Labão e Betuel responderam: "Isso vem do Senhor; nada lhe podemos dizer, nem a favor, nem contra.
51 Here is Rebekah. Take her to Abraham's country so that she can be Isaac's wife. It is what God wants.”
51 Aqui está Rebeca; leve-a com você e que ela se torne a mulher do filho do seu senhor, como disse o Senhor".
52 When Abraham's worker heard this, he bowed down and said, “Thank you God.”
52 Quando o servo de Abraão ouviu o que disseram, curvou-se até ao chão diante do Senhor.
53 Then he gave Rebekah some really nice clothes, and pretty things to wear made out of silver and gold. He gave her brother Laban and her mother presents that cost a lot of money.
53 Então o servo deu jóias de ouro e de prata e vestidos a Rebeca; deu também presentes valiosos ao irmão dela e à sua mãe.
54 Then Abraham's worker and his men ate their food and went to sleep.
54 Depois ele e os homens que o acompanhavam comeram, beberam e ali passaram a noite. Ao se levantarem na manhã seguinte, ele disse: "Deixem-me voltar ao meu senhor".
55 But Laban and Rebekah's mother said, “Can you let the young girl stay here for 10 more days, and then go?”
55 Mas o irmão e a mãe dela responderam: "Deixe a jovem ficar mais uns dez dias conosco; então você poderá partir".
56 But Abraham's worker said to them, “God has made everything good so far. Please do not stop me from going back to Abraham today.”
56 Mas ele disse: "Não me detenham, agora que o Senhor coroou de êxito a minha missão. Vamos despedir-nos, e voltarei ao meu senhor".
57 So Laban and Rebekah's mother said, “We will talk to Rebekah and ask her what she wants to do.”
57 Então lhe disseram: "Vamos chamar a jovem e ver o que ela diz".
58 They asked Rebekah, “Are you ready to go with this man and marry Isaac?”
58 Chamaram Rebeca e lhe perguntaram: "Você quer ir com este homem? " "Sim, quero", respondeu ela.

59 Despediram-se, pois, de sua irmã Rebeca, de sua ama, do servo de Abraão e dos que o acompanhavam.

61 Então Rebeca e suas servas se aprontaram, montaram seus camelos e partiram com o homem. E assim o servo partiu levando Rebeca.
62 Back in Canaan, Isaac left his camp in a place called Beer La-hai Roy and went south to live in that dry country called The Negev.
62 Isaque tinha voltado de Beer-Laai-Roi, pois habitava no Neguebe.
63 As Isaac was walking out in the paddocks late one day, he looked up and saw a big mob of camels coming towards him.
63 Certa tarde, saiu ao campo para meditar. Ao erguer os olhos, viu que se aproximavam camelos.

64 Rebeca também ergueu os olhos e viu Isaque. Ela desceu do camelo

65 e perguntou ao servo: "Quem é aquele homem que vem pelo campo ao nosso encontro? " "É meu senhor", respondeu o servo. Então ela se cobriu com o véu.
66 Then Abraham's worker told Isaac everything that happened.
66 Depois o servo contou a Isaque tudo o que havia feito.
67 Isaac married Rebekah and took her to live in the tent that his mother Sarah used to live in. And so, Rebekah was now Isaac's wife and he loved her. Isaac was very sad about losing his mother, but Rebekah made him happy again.
67 Isaque levou Rebeca para a tenda de sua mãe Sara; fez dela sua mulher, e a amou; assim Isaque foi consolado após a morte de sua mãe.
