1 Abram was living in a big town called Harran when the Lord said to him, “Abram, I want you to leave your country, your family and all your relations. I am going to take you to live in a new country.
1 O Senhor disse a Abrão: "Deixa tua terra, tua família e a casa de teu pai e vai para a terra que eu te mostrar.
2 I am going to bless you. That means I will do good things for you and make you strong. Everyone will know about you and respect your name. I will give you a big family and this family will grow into a strong nation. Your family will do good things for all the other nations on the earth.
2 Farei de ti uma grande nação; eu te abençoarei e exaltarei o teu nome, e tu serás uma fonte de bênçãos.
3 If anyone looks after you and does good things for you, I will look after them and be kind to them. But, if anyone puts a curse on you and makes life hard for you, I will put a curse on them and I will make their life very hard. I will use your family to do good things for all the people in the world.”
3 Abençoarei aqueles que te abençoarem, e amaldiçoarei aqueles que te amaldiçoarem; todas as famílias da terra serão benditas em ti."

4 Abrão partiu como o Senhor lhe tinha dito, e Lot foi com ele. Abrão tinha setenta e cinco anos, quando partiu de Harã.

5 Tomou Sarai, sua mulher, e Lot, filho de seu irmão, assim como todos os bens que possuíam e os escravos que tinham adquirido em Harã, e partiram para a terra de Canaã. Ali chegando,
6 When Abram got to the Canaanite country, he walked right across that country until he got to a place called Shekem. In that place there was a special tree called Moreh.
6 Abrão atravessou a terra até Siquém, até o carvalho de Moré. Os cananeus estavam então naquela terra.
7 Then the Lord visited Abram and made a strong promise to him. God said to Abram, “You are the first person in my new family. I promise that I will give this country to the family that comes from you.” The Lord had visited Abram and so Abram piled up some stones to make a special table called an altar. And then he burned some animals on that altar to show respect to the Lord.
7 O Senhor apareceu a Abrão e disse-lhe: "Darei esta terra à tua posteridade." Abrão edificou um altar ao Senhor, que lhe tinha aparecido.
8 Later on, Abram left Shekem and went down south to the hill country that was on the east side of a town called Bethel. And he made his camp between Bethel and another town called Ai. Ai was on the east side and Bethel was on the west side of his camp. Right there Abram built another stone altar and prayed to God using God's name.
8 Em seguida, partindo dali, foi para a montanha que está ao oriente de Betel, onde levantou a sua tenda, tendo Betel ao ocidente e Hai ao oriente. Abrão edificou ali um altar ao Senhor, e invocou o seu nome.
9 Then Abram travelled further south to a dry country called “The Negev.”
9 Continuou depois sua viagem, de acampamento em acampamento, para Negeb.
10 At that time, there was not much food in that country, and so Abram and everyone with him went to live for a short time in the country called Egypt.
10 Sobreveio, porém, uma fome na região; e sendo grande a miséria, Abrão desceu ao Egito para aí viver algum tempo.

11 Quando estava para entrar no Egito, disse a Sarai sua mulher: "Escuta, sei que és uma mulher formosa.

12 Quando os egípcios te virem, dirão: 'É sua mulher', e me matarão, conservando-te a ti em vida.
13 You have to tell everyone that you are my sister so they will not kill me.”
13 Dize, pois, que és minha irmã, para que eu seja poupado por causa de ti, e me conservem a vida em atenção a ti."
14 What Abram said came true. When they got into Egypt, the Egyptian people saw that Sarai was really beautiful.
14 Chegando Abrão ao Egito, os egípcios notaram que sua mulher era extremamente bela.
15 And when the king's workers saw Sarai, they told the king how beautiful she was, and they took her to live with him.
15 Os grandes da corte, vendo-a, elogiaram-na diante do faraó, e a mulher foi introduzida no seu palácio.
16 The king thought Abram was Sarai's brother and so he was very kind to him. The king gave Abram, sheep, cows, donkeys, and camels as well as men and women workers.
16 por causa dela, Abrão foi bem tratado pelo faraó, e recebeu ovelhas, bois, jumentos, servos e servas, jumentas e camelos.
17 But God was not pleased that Sarai had gone to live with the king of Egypt. God made the king and everyone who lived in his house really sick.
17 O Senhor, porém, feriu com grandes pragas o faraó e a sua casa, por causa de Sarai, mulher de Abrão.

18 O faraó mandou chamá-lo e disse-lhe: "Que me levaste a fazer? Porque não me disseste que era tua mulher?

19 Por que disseste que ela era tua irmã, levando-me e a tomá-la por esposa? Mas agora eis tua mulher: toma-a e vai-te!"
20 The king told his soldiers what to do with Abram. He said, “Take Abram, Sarai, all his people, animals and workers out of Egypt and make them go back to where they came from!” And the soldiers did what the king said.
20 Então, o faraó deu ordens aos seus para reconduzir Abrão e sua mulher com tudo o que lhe pertencia.
