1 Simon Peter, slaveand apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtainedwith us the same kind of faith in the righteousnessof our God and Savior,Jesus Christ:
1 Simão Pedro, servo e apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, àqueles que, mediante a justiça de nosso Deus e Salvador Jesus Cristo, receberam conosco uma fé igualmente valiosa:
2 may grace and peace be multiplied to youthrough a real knowledge of Godand of our Lord Jesus,
2 Graça e paz lhes sejam multiplicadas, pelo pleno conhecimento de Deus e de Jesus, o nosso Senhor.
3 in that His divine power has granted to us all things pertaining to life and godliness, through the real knowledge of the Onewho called us by glory and excellence,
3 Seu divino poder nos deu todas as coisas de que necessitamos para a vida e para a piedade, por meio do pleno conhecimento daquele que nos chamou para a sua própria glória e virtude.
4 through whichHe has granted to us such precious and extraordinary promises, so that through theseyou may become partakers of a divine nature,having escaped the depravity that is in the world because of lust.
4 Por intermédio destas ele nos deu as suas grandiosas e preciosas promessas, para que por elas vocês se tornassem participantes da natureza divina e fugissem da corrupção que há no mundo, causada pela cobiça.
5 So for this very reason, making every effort,to your faith add excellence,and to the excellence knowledge,
5 Por isso mesmo, empenhem-se para acrescentar à sua fé a virtude; à virtude o conhecimento;
6 and to the knowledge self-control, and to the self-control perseverance, and to the perseverance godliness,
6 ao conhecimento o domínio próprio; ao domínio próprio a perseverança; à perseverança a piedade;
7 and to the godliness brotherly affection, and to the brotherly affection love.
7 à piedade a fraternidade; e à fraternidade o amor.
8 Because with these things existing and increasing in you, it makes you to be neither useless nor unfruitful in the real knowledgeof our Lord Jesus Christ.
8 Porque, se essas qualidades existirem e estiverem crescendo em suas vidas, elas impedirão que vocês, no pleno conhecimento de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, sejam inoperantes e improdutivos.
9 For he who lacks these things is blind, being so myopic, having forgotten the cleansing from his past sins.
9 Todavia, se alguém não as tem, está cego, só vê o que está perto, esquecendo-se da purificação dos seus antigos pecados.
10 Therefore, brothers, you should be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure,for if you do these things you will never stumble.
10 Portanto, irmãos, empenhem-se ainda mais para consolidar o chamado e a eleição de vocês, pois se agirem dessa forma, jamais tropeçarão,
11 Because in this way you will be granted the abundant entranceinto the unending kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
11 e assim vocês estarão ricamente providos quando entrarem no Reino eterno de nosso Senhor e Salvador Jesus Cristo.
12 So then, I will not neglect to keep reminding you about these things, though you know and are established in the present truth.
12 Por isso, sempre terei o cuidado de lembrar-lhes estas coisas, se bem que vocês já as sabem e estão solidamente firmados na verdade que receberam.
13 Yes, I think it right to stir you up by a reminder, as long as I am in this ‘tent’,
13 Considero importante, enquanto estiver no tabernáculo deste corpo, despertar a memória de vocês,
14 knowing that the shedding of my ‘tent’ is imminent, just as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.
14 porque sei que em breve deixarei este tabernáculo, como o nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo já me revelou.
15 Moreover I will take pains to provide a reminder of these things for you to have,as needed, after my exit.
15 Eu me empenharei para que, também depois da minha partida, vocês sejam sempre capazes de lembrar-se destas coisas.
16 Now then, we did not follow craftily devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; rather we were attentive eyewitnesses of His majesty
16 De fato, não seguimos fábulas engenhosamente inventadas, quando lhes falamos a respeito do poder e da vinda de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo; pelo contrário, nós fomos testemunhas oculares da sua majestade.
17 —because He received from God the Father honor and glory when that Voicewas directed to Him by the Magnificent Glory, “This is my Son, the beloved, in whom I am always well pleased”—
17 Ele recebeu honra e glória da parte de Deus Pai, quando da suprema glória lhe foi dirigida a voz que disse: "Este é o meu filho amado, em quem me agrado".
18 yes, we heard this Voice being uttered from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
18 Nós mesmos ouvimos essa voz vinda do céu, quando estávamos com ele no monte santo.
19 And so we have the most reliable prophetic Word,to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place,until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;
19 Assim, temos ainda mais firme a palavra dos profetas, e vocês farão bem se a ela prestarem atenção, como a uma candeia que brilha em lugar escuro, até que o dia clareie e a estrela da alva nasça em seus corações.
20 knowing this first, that no Prophecy of Scripture comes to be from private release;
20 Antes de mais nada, saibam que nenhuma profecia da Escritura provém de interpretação pessoal,
21 for no Prophecy ever came by the will of man, rather holy men of God spoke as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
21 pois jamais a profecia teve origem na vontade humana, mas homens falaram da parte de Deus, impelidos pelo Espírito Santo.
