1 And it came to pass, when all the kings|strong="H4428" which were on this side|strong="H5676" Jordan|strong="H3383", in the hills|strong="H2022", and in the valleys|strong="H8219", and in all the coasts|strong="H2348" of the great|strong="H1419" sea|strong="H3220" over against|strong="H4136" Lebanon|strong="H3844", the Hittite|strong="H2850", and the Amorite|strong="H0567", the Canaanite|strong="H3669", the Perizzite|strong="H6522", the Hivite|strong="H2340", and the Jebusite|strong="H2983", heard|strong="H8085" thereof;
1 À notícia de tais acontecimentos, todos os reis de além do Jordão, da montanha e da planície, do litoral do mar Grande defronte do Líbano, os hiteus, os amorreus, os cananeus, os ferezeus,
2 That they gathered|strong="H6908" themselves together|strong="H3162", to fight|strong="H3898" with Joshua|strong="H3091" and with Israel|strong="H3478", with one|strong="H0259" accord|strong="H6310".
2 os heveus e os jebuseus coligaram-se para combater Josué e Israel.
3 And when the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of Gibeon|strong="H1391" heard|strong="H8085" what Joshua|strong="H3091" had done|strong="H6213" unto Jericho|strong="H3405" and to Ai|strong="H5857",
3 Mas os habitantes de Gabaon, sabendo o que Josué tinha feito a Jericó e a Hai, usaram de astúcia.
4 They did work|strong="H6213" wilily|strong="H6195", and went|strong="H3212" and made as if they had been ambassadors|strong="H6737", and took|strong="H3947" old|strong="H1087" sacks|strong="H8242" upon their asses|strong="H2543", and wine|strong="H3196" bottles|strong="H4997", old|strong="H1087", and rent|strong="H1234", and bound up|strong="H6887";
4 Puseram-se a caminho, munidos de provisões, seus jumentos carregados de sacos velhos, e odres de vinho rotos e recosidos.
5 And old|strong="H1087" shoes|strong="H5275" and clouted|strong="H2921" upon their feet|strong="H7272", and old|strong="H1087" garments|strong="H8008" upon them; and all the bread|strong="H3899" of their provision|strong="H6718" was dry|strong="H3001" and mouldy|strong="H5350".
5 Levavam nos pés calçado muito velho e remendado, vestiam-se de roupas muito usadas, e o pão de suas provisões estava seco e estragado.
6 And they went|strong="H3212" to Joshua|strong="H3091" unto the camp|strong="H4264" at Gilgal|strong="H1537", and said|strong="H0559" unto him, and to the men|strong="H0376" of Israel|strong="H3478", We be come|strong="H0935" from a far|strong="H7350" country|strong="H0776": now therefore make|strong="H3772" ye a league|strong="H1285" with us.
6 Foram assim ter com Josué no acampamento de Gálgala, e disseram-lhe, bem como a todo o Israel: Viemos de uma terra longínqua; fazei aliança conosco.
7 And the men|strong="H0376" of Israel|strong="H3478" said|strong="H0559" unto the Hivites|strong="H2340", Peradventure|strong="H0194" ye dwell|strong="H3427" among|strong="H7130" us; and how shall we make|strong="H3772" a league|strong="H1285" with you?
7 Os israelitas responderam: Talvez habiteis perto de nós; como, pois, poderíamos fazer aliança convosco?
8 And they said|strong="H0559" unto Joshua|strong="H3091", We are thy servants|strong="H5650". And Joshua|strong="H3091" said|strong="H0559" unto them, Who are ye? and from whence|strong="H0370" come|strong="H0935" ye?
8 Mas eles disseram a Josué: Somos teus servos. Josué disse-lhes: Quem sois vós? De onde vindes? Eles responderam-lhe:
9 And they said|strong="H0559" unto him, From a very|strong="H3966" far|strong="H7350" country|strong="H0776" thy servants|strong="H5650" are come|strong="H0935" because of the name|strong="H8034" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* thy God|strong="H0430": for we have heard|strong="H8085" the fame|strong="H8089" of him, and all that he did|strong="H6213" in Egypt|strong="H4714",
9 Teus servos vêm de uma terra muito distante por causa do nome do Senhor, teu Deus; pois ouvimos falar dele e de tudo o que fez no Egito,
10 And all that he did|strong="H6213" to the two|strong="H8147" kings|strong="H4428" of the Amorites|strong="H0567", that were beyond|strong="H5676" Jordan|strong="H3383", to Sihon|strong="H5511" king|strong="H4428" of Heshbon|strong="H2809", and to Og|strong="H5747" king|strong="H4428" of Bashan|strong="H1316", which was at Ashtaroth|strong="H6252".
10 e de como tratou os dois reis dos amorreus além do Jordão, Seon, rei de Hesebon e Og, rei de Basã, que moravam em Astarot.
11 Wherefore our elders|strong="H2205" and all the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of our country|strong="H0776" spake|strong="H0559" to us, saying|strong="H0559", Take|strong="H3947" victuals|strong="H6720" with you|strong="H3027" for the journey|strong="H1870", and go|strong="H3212" to meet|strong="H7125" them, and say|strong="H0559" unto them, We are your servants|strong="H5650": therefore now make|strong="H3772" ye a league|strong="H1285" with us.
11 Por isso, nossos anciãos e todos os habitantes de nossa terra nos disseram: tomai convosco provisões para o caminho, ide ao seu encontro e dizei-lhes: somos vossos servos; fazei aliança conosco.
12 This our bread|strong="H3899" we took hot|strong="H2525" for our provision|strong="H6679" out of our houses|strong="H1004" on the day|strong="H3117" we came forth|strong="H3318" to go|strong="H3212" unto you; but now, behold, it is dry|strong="H3001", and it is mouldy|strong="H5350":
12 Vede o nosso pão. Nós o tínhamos tomado quente quando partimos de nossas casas para vir ter convosco: ei-lo como está agora seco e mofado.
13 And these bottles|strong="H4997" of wine|strong="H3196", which we filled|strong="H4390", were new|strong="H2319"; and, behold, they be rent|strong="H1234": and these our garments|strong="H8008" and our shoes|strong="H5275" are become old|strong="H1086" by reason of the very|strong="H3966" long|strong="H7230" journey|strong="H1870".
13 Estes odres de vinho que tínhamos enchido novos, agora estão rotos e descosidos; nossas vestes e nossos calçados estão gastos por causa da longa viagem que fizemos.
14 And the men|strong="H0582" took|strong="H3947" of their victuals|strong="H6718", and asked|strong="H7592" not counsel at the mouth|strong="H6310" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.
14 Os israelitas, sem ter consultado o Senhor, aceitaram as suas provisões.
15 And Joshua|strong="H3091" made|strong="H6213" peace|strong="H7965" with them, and made|strong="H3772" a league|strong="H1285" with them, to let them live|strong="H2421": and the princes|strong="H5387" of the congregation|strong="H5712" sware|strong="H7650" unto them.
15 Josué concedeu-lhes a paz e fez com eles uma aliança que lhes assegurava a vida, e os principais da assembléia confirmaram-na com juramento.
16 And it came to pass at the end|strong="H7097" of three|strong="H7969" days|strong="H3117" after|strong="H0310" they had made|strong="H3772" a league|strong="H1285" with them, that they heard|strong="H8085" that they were their neighbours|strong="H7138", and that they dwelt|strong="H3427" among|strong="H7130" them.
16 Três dias depois desse tratado, souberam que aquela gente era vizinha e habitava no meio deles.
17 And the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" journeyed|strong="H5265", and came|strong="H0935" unto their cities|strong="H5892" on the third|strong="H7992" day|strong="H3117". Now their cities|strong="H5892" were Gibeon|strong="H1391", and Chephirah|strong="H3716", and Beeroth|strong="H0881", and Kirjath-jearim|strong="H7157".
17 Então os israelitas puseram-se a caminho e ao terceiro dia chegaram às suas cidades, cujos nomes são estes: Gabaon, Cafira, Berot e Cariatiarim.
18 And the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" smote|strong="H5221" them not, because the princes|strong="H5387" of the congregation|strong="H5712" had sworn|strong="H7650" unto them by the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478". And all the congregation|strong="H5712" murmured|strong="H3885" against the princes|strong="H5387".
18 Eles não os feriram por causa do juramento que lhes tinham feito os principais da assembléia em nome do Senhor, Deus de Israel. E toda a assembléia começou a murmurar contra eles.
19 But all the princes|strong="H5387" said|strong="H0559" unto all the congregation|strong="H5712", We have sworn|strong="H7650" unto them by the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478": now therefore we may|strong="H3201" not touch|strong="H5060" them.
19 Eles responderam: Fizemos-lhes um juramento em nome do Senhor, Deus de Israel, e não podemos tocar neles.
20 This we will do|strong="H6213" to them; we will even let them live|strong="H2421", lest wrath|strong="H7110" be upon us, because of the oath|strong="H7621" which we sware|strong="H7650" unto them.
20 Eis, porém, como havemos de tratá-los: deixá-los-emos vivos, para que não se excite contra nós a ira do Senhor, se faltarmos ao juramento.
21 And the princes|strong="H5387" said|strong="H0559" unto them, Let them live|strong="H2421"; but let them be hewers|strong="H2404" of wood|strong="H6086" and drawers|strong="H7579" of water|strong="H4325" unto all the congregation|strong="H5712"; as the princes|strong="H5387" had promised|strong="H1696" them.
21 Ficarão vivos, declararam os chefes, mas serão empregados em cortar lenha e carregar água para toda a assembléia. Inteirado da decisão dos chefes,
22 And Joshua|strong="H3091" called|strong="H7121" for them, and he spake|strong="H1696" unto them, saying|strong="H0559", Wherefore have ye beguiled|strong="H7411" us, saying|strong="H0559", We are very|strong="H3966" far|strong="H7350" from you; when ye dwell|strong="H3427" among|strong="H7130" us?
22 Josué convocou-os e interpelou-os: Por que nos enganastes dizendo que éreis de uma terra longínqua, quando habitáveis no meio de nós?
23 Now therefore ye are cursed|strong="H0779", and there shall none of you be freed|strong="H3772" from being bondmen|strong="H5650", and hewers|strong="H2404" of wood|strong="H6086" and drawers|strong="H7579" of water|strong="H4325" for the house|strong="H1004" of my God|strong="H0430".
23 Agora malditos sejais: vossa servidão não cessará jamais e continuareis a cortar lenha e a carregar água para a casa do meu Deus.
24 And they answered|strong="H6030" Joshua|strong="H3091", and said|strong="H0559", Because it was certainly|strong="H5046" told|strong="H5046" thy servants|strong="H5650", how that the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* thy God|strong="H0430" commanded|strong="H6680" his servant|strong="H5650" Moses|strong="H4872" to give|strong="H5414" you all the land|strong="H0776", and to destroy|strong="H8045" all the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of the land|strong="H0776" from before|strong="H6440" you, therefore we were sore|strong="H3966" afraid|strong="H3372" of our lives|strong="H5315" because|strong="H6440" of you, and have done|strong="H6213" this thing|strong="H1697".
24 Eles responderam a Josué: A nós, teus servos, chegou a notícia de que o Senhor teu Deus havia ordenado a Moisés, seu servo, que vos desse toda a terra e exterminasse todos os seus habitantes diante de vós. Tivemos, pois, muito medo à vossa aproximação e, temendo por nossas vidas, tomamos esse expediente.
25 And now, behold, we|strong="H2009" are in thine hand|strong="H3027": as it seemeth|strong="H5869" good|strong="H2896" and right|strong="H3477" unto thee to do|strong="H6213" unto us, do|strong="H6213".
25 Agora, eis-nos em tuas mãos; trata-nos como te parecer justo e bom.
26 And so did|strong="H6213" he unto them, and delivered|strong="H5337" them out of the hand|strong="H3027" of the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478", that they slew|strong="H2026" them not.
26 Fez Josué como tinha dito, e livrou-os das mãos dos filhos de Israel, que os não mataram.
27 And Joshua|strong="H3091" made|strong="H5414" them that day|strong="H3117" hewers|strong="H2404" of wood|strong="H6086" and drawers|strong="H7579" of water|strong="H4325" for the congregation|strong="H5712", and for the altar|strong="H4196" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, even unto this day|strong="H3117", in the place|strong="H4725" which he should choose|strong="H0977".
27 Determinou naquele dia que fossem empregados no serviço da comunidade e do altar, cortando lenha e carregando água para o lugar que o Senhor escolhesse, funções que exercem ainda hoje.
