1 Now it came to pass, when Adoni-zedek|strong="H0139" king|strong="H4428" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389" had heard|strong="H8085" how|strong="H3588" Joshua|strong="H3091" had taken|strong="H3920" Ai|strong="H5857", and had utterly destroyed|strong="H2763" it; as he had done|strong="H6213" to Jericho|strong="H3405" and her king|strong="H4428", so he had done|strong="H6213" to Ai|strong="H5857" and her king|strong="H4428"; and how the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of Gibeon|strong="H1391" had made peace|strong="H7999" with Israel|strong="H3478", and were among|strong="H7130" them;
2 That they feared|strong="H3372" greatly|strong="H3966", because Gibeon|strong="H1391" was a great|strong="H1419" city|strong="H5892", as one|strong="H0259" of the royal|strong="H4467" cities|strong="H5892", and because it was greater|strong="H1419" than Ai|strong="H5857", and all the men|strong="H0582" thereof were mighty|strong="H1368".
3 Wherefore Adoni-zedek|strong="H0139" king|strong="H4428" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389" sent|strong="H7971" unto Hoham|strong="H1944" king|strong="H4428" of Hebron|strong="H2275", and unto Piram|strong="H6502" king|strong="H4428" of Jarmuth|strong="H3412", and unto Japhia|strong="H3309" king|strong="H4428" of Lachish|strong="H3923", and unto Debir|strong="H1688" king|strong="H4428" of Eglon|strong="H5700", saying|strong="H0559",
4 Come up|strong="H5927" unto me, and help|strong="H5826" me, that we may smite|strong="H5221" Gibeon|strong="H1391": for it hath made peace|strong="H7999" with Joshua|strong="H3091" and with the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478".
5 Therefore the five|strong="H2568" kings|strong="H4428" of the Amorites|strong="H0567", the king|strong="H4428" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389", the king|strong="H4428" of Hebron|strong="H2275", the king|strong="H4428" of Jarmuth|strong="H3412", the king|strong="H4428" of Lachish|strong="H3923", the king|strong="H4428" of Eglon|strong="H5700", gathered themselves together|strong="H0622", and went up|strong="H5927", they and all their hosts|strong="H4264", and encamped|strong="H2583" before Gibeon|strong="H1391", and made war|strong="H3898" against it.
6 And the men|strong="H0582" of Gibeon|strong="H1391" sent|strong="H7971" unto Joshua|strong="H3091" to the camp|strong="H4264" to Gilgal|strong="H1537", saying|strong="H0559", Slack|strong="H7503" not thy hand|strong="H3027" from thy servants|strong="H5650"; come up|strong="H5927" to us quickly|strong="H4120", and save|strong="H3467" us, and help|strong="H5826" us: for all the kings|strong="H4428" of the Amorites|strong="H0567" that dwell|strong="H3427" in the mountains|strong="H2022" are gathered together|strong="H6908" against us.
7 So Joshua|strong="H3091" ascended|strong="H5927" from Gilgal|strong="H1537", he, and all the people|strong="H5971" of war|strong="H4421" with him, and all the mighty|strong="H1368" men of valour|strong="H2428".
8 And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H0559" unto Joshua|strong="H3091", Fear|strong="H3372" them not: for I have delivered|strong="H5414" them into thine hand|strong="H3027"; there shall not a man|strong="H0376" of them stand|strong="H5975" before|strong="H6440" thee.
9 Joshua|strong="H3091" therefore came|strong="H0935" unto them suddenly|strong="H6597", and went up|strong="H5927" from Gilgal|strong="H1537" all night|strong="H3915".
10 And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* discomfited|strong="H2000" them before|strong="H6440" Israel|strong="H3478", and slew|strong="H5221" them with a great|strong="H1419" slaughter|strong="H4347" at Gibeon|strong="H1391", and chased|strong="H7291" them along the way|strong="H1870" that goeth up|strong="H4608" to Beth-horon|strong="H1032", and smote|strong="H5221" them to Azekah|strong="H5825", and unto Makkedah|strong="H4719".
11 And it came to pass, as they fled|strong="H5127" from before|strong="H6440" Israel|strong="H3478", and were in the going down|strong="H4174" to Beth-horon|strong="H1032", that the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* cast down|strong="H7993" great|strong="H1419" stones|strong="H0068" from heaven|strong="H8064" upon them unto Azekah|strong="H5825", and they died|strong="H4191": they were more|strong="H7227" which died|strong="H4191" with hailstones|strong="H1259" than they whom|strong="H0834" the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" slew|strong="H2026" with the sword|strong="H2719".
12 Then spake|strong="H1696" Joshua|strong="H3091" to the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* in the day|strong="H3117" when the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* delivered up|strong="H5414" the Amorites|strong="H0567" before|strong="H6440" the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478", and he said|strong="H0559" in the sight|strong="H5869" of Israel|strong="H3478", Sun|strong="H8121", stand thou still|strong="H1826" upon Gibeon|strong="H1391"; and thou, Moon|strong="H3394", in the valley|strong="H6010" of Ajalon|strong="H0357".
13 And the sun|strong="H8121" stood still|strong="H1826", and the moon|strong="H3394" stayed|strong="H5975", until the people|strong="H1471" had avenged|strong="H5358" themselves upon their enemies|strong="H0341". Is not this|strong="H1931" written|strong="H3789" in the book|strong="H5612" of Jasher|strong="H3477"? So the sun|strong="H8121" stood still|strong="H5975" in the midst|strong="H2677" of heaven|strong="H8064", and hasted|strong="H0213" not to go down|strong="H0935" about a whole|strong="H8549" day|strong="H3117".
14 And there was no day|strong="H3117" like that before|strong="H6440" it or after|strong="H0310" it, that the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hearkened|strong="H8085" unto the voice|strong="H6963" of a man|strong="H0376": for the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* fought|strong="H3898" for Israel|strong="H3478".
15 And Joshua|strong="H3091" returned|strong="H7725", and all Israel|strong="H3478" with him, unto the camp|strong="H4264" to Gilgal|strong="H1537".
16 But these five|strong="H2568" kings|strong="H4428" fled|strong="H5127", and hid|strong="H2244" themselves in a cave|strong="H4631" at Makkedah|strong="H4719".
17 And it was told|strong="H5046" Joshua|strong="H3091", saying|strong="H0559", The five|strong="H2568" kings|strong="H4428" are found|strong="H4672" hid|strong="H2244" in a cave|strong="H4631" at Makkedah|strong="H4719".
18 And Joshua|strong="H3091" said|strong="H0559", Roll|strong="H1556" great|strong="H1419" stones|strong="H0068" upon the mouth|strong="H6310" of the cave|strong="H4631", and set|strong="H6485" men|strong="H0582" by it for to keep|strong="H8104" them:
19 And stay|strong="H5975" ye not, but pursue|strong="H7291" after|strong="H0310" your enemies|strong="H0341", and smite the hindmost|strong="H2179" of them; suffer|strong="H5414" them not to enter|strong="H0935" into their cities|strong="H5892": for the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* your God|strong="H0430" hath delivered|strong="H5414" them into your hand|strong="H3027".
20 And it came to pass, when Joshua|strong="H3091" and the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" had made an end|strong="H3615" of slaying|strong="H5221" them with a very|strong="H3966" great|strong="H1419" slaughter|strong="H4347", till they were consumed|strong="H8552", that the rest|strong="H8300" which remained|strong="H8277" of them entered|strong="H0935" into fenced|strong="H4013" cities|strong="H5892".
21 And all the people|strong="H5971" returned|strong="H7725" to the camp|strong="H4264" to Joshua|strong="H3091" at Makkedah|strong="H4719" in peace|strong="H7965": none moved|strong="H2782" his tongue|strong="H3956" against any|strong="H0376" of the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478".
22 Then said|strong="H0559" Joshua|strong="H3091", Open|strong="H6605" the mouth|strong="H6310" of the cave|strong="H4631", and bring out|strong="H3318" those five|strong="H2568" kings|strong="H4428" unto me out of the cave|strong="H4631".
23 And they did|strong="H6213" so, and brought forth|strong="H3318" those five|strong="H2568" kings|strong="H4428" unto him out of the cave|strong="H4631", the king|strong="H4428" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389", the king|strong="H4428" of Hebron|strong="H2275", the king|strong="H4428" of Jarmuth|strong="H3412", the king|strong="H4428" of Lachish|strong="H3923", and the king|strong="H4428" of Eglon|strong="H5700".
24 And it came to pass, when they brought out|strong="H3318" those kings|strong="H4428" unto Joshua|strong="H3091", that Joshua|strong="H3091" called|strong="H7121" for all the men|strong="H0376" of Israel|strong="H3478", and said|strong="H0559" unto the captains|strong="H7101" of the men|strong="H0582" of war|strong="H4421" which went|strong="H1980" with him, Come near|strong="H7126", put|strong="H7760" your feet|strong="H7272" upon the necks|strong="H6677" of these kings|strong="H4428". And they came near|strong="H7126", and put|strong="H7760" their feet|strong="H7272" upon the necks|strong="H6677" of them.
25 And Joshua|strong="H3091" said|strong="H0559" unto them, Fear|strong="H3372" not, nor be dismayed|strong="H2865", be strong|strong="H2388" and of good courage|strong="H0553": for thus shall the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* do|strong="H6213" to all your enemies|strong="H0341" against whom ye fight|strong="H3898".
26 And afterward|strong="H0310" Joshua|strong="H3091" smote|strong="H5221" them, and slew|strong="H4191" them, and hanged|strong="H8518" them on five|strong="H2568" trees|strong="H6086": and they were hanging|strong="H8518" upon the trees|strong="H6086" until the evening|strong="H6153".
27 And it came to pass at the time|strong="H6256" of the going down|strong="H0935" of the sun|strong="H8121", that Joshua|strong="H3091" commanded|strong="H6680", and they took them down|strong="H3381" off the trees|strong="H6086", and cast|strong="H7993" them into the cave|strong="H4631" wherein they had been hid|strong="H2244", and laid|strong="H7760" great|strong="H1419" stones|strong="H0068" in the cave’s|strong="H4631" mouth|strong="H6310", which remain until this very|strong="H6106" day|strong="H3117".
28 And that day|strong="H3117" Joshua|strong="H3091" took|strong="H3920" Makkedah|strong="H4719", and smote|strong="H5221" it with the edge|strong="H6310" of the sword|strong="H2719", and the king|strong="H4428" thereof he utterly destroyed|strong="H2763", them, and all the souls|strong="H5315" that were therein; he let|strong="H7604" none remain|strong="H8300": and he did|strong="H6213" to the king|strong="H4428" of Makkedah|strong="H4719" as he did|strong="H6213" unto the king|strong="H4428" of Jericho|strong="H3405".
29 Then Joshua|strong="H3091" passed|strong="H5674" from Makkedah|strong="H4719", and all Israel|strong="H3478" with him, unto Libnah|strong="H3841", and fought|strong="H3898" against Libnah|strong="H3841":
30 And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* delivered|strong="H5414" it also, and the king|strong="H4428" thereof, into the hand|strong="H3027" of Israel|strong="H3478"; and he smote|strong="H5221" it with the edge|strong="H6310" of the sword|strong="H2719", and all the souls|strong="H5315" that were therein; he let|strong="H7604" none remain|strong="H8300" in it; but did|strong="H6213" unto the king|strong="H4428" thereof as he did|strong="H6213" unto the king|strong="H4428" of Jericho|strong="H3405".
31 And Joshua|strong="H3091" passed|strong="H5674" from Libnah|strong="H3841", and all Israel|strong="H3478" with him, unto Lachish|strong="H3923", and encamped|strong="H2583" against it, and fought|strong="H3898" against it:
32 And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* delivered|strong="H5414" Lachish|strong="H3923" into the hand|strong="H3027" of Israel|strong="H3478", which took|strong="H3920" it on the second|strong="H8145" day|strong="H3117", and smote|strong="H5221" it with the edge|strong="H6310" of the sword|strong="H2719", and all the souls|strong="H5315" that were therein, according to all that he had done|strong="H6213" to Libnah|strong="H3841".
33 Then Horam|strong="H2036" king|strong="H4428" of Gezer|strong="H1507" came up|strong="H5927" to help|strong="H5826" Lachish|strong="H3923"; and Joshua|strong="H3091" smote|strong="H5221" him and his people|strong="H5971", until he had left|strong="H7604" him none remaining|strong="H8300".
34 And from Lachish|strong="H3923" Joshua|strong="H3091" passed|strong="H5674" unto Eglon|strong="H5700", and all Israel|strong="H3478" with him; and they encamped|strong="H2583" against it, and fought|strong="H3898" against it:
35 And they took|strong="H3920" it on that day|strong="H3117", and smote|strong="H5221" it with the edge|strong="H6310" of the sword|strong="H2719", and all the souls|strong="H5315" that were therein he utterly destroyed|strong="H2763" that day|strong="H3117", according to all that he had done|strong="H6213" to Lachish|strong="H3923".
36 And Joshua|strong="H3091" went up|strong="H5927" from Eglon|strong="H5700", and all Israel|strong="H3478" with him, unto Hebron|strong="H2275"; and they fought|strong="H3898" against it:
37 And they took|strong="H3920" it, and smote|strong="H5221" it with the edge|strong="H6310" of the sword|strong="H2719", and the king|strong="H4428" thereof, and all the cities|strong="H5892" thereof, and all the souls|strong="H5315" that were therein; he left|strong="H7604" none remaining|strong="H8300", according to all that he had done|strong="H6213" to Eglon|strong="H5700"; but destroyed|strong="H2763" it utterly, and all the souls|strong="H5315" that were therein.
38 And Joshua|strong="H3091" returned|strong="H7725", and all Israel|strong="H3478" with him, to Debir|strong="H1688"; and fought|strong="H3898" against it:
39 And he took|strong="H3920" it, and the king|strong="H4428" thereof, and all the cities|strong="H5892" thereof; and they smote|strong="H5221" them with the edge|strong="H6310" of the sword|strong="H2719", and utterly destroyed|strong="H2763" all the souls|strong="H5315" that were therein; he left|strong="H7604" none remaining|strong="H8300": as he had done|strong="H6213" to Hebron|strong="H2275", so he did|strong="H6213" to Debir|strong="H1688", and to the king|strong="H4428" thereof; as he had done|strong="H6213" also to Libnah|strong="H3841", and to her king|strong="H4428".
40 So Joshua|strong="H3091" smote|strong="H5221" all the country|strong="H0776" of the hills|strong="H2022", and of the south|strong="H5045", and of the vale|strong="H8219", and of the springs|strong="H0794", and all their kings|strong="H4428": he left|strong="H7604" none remaining|strong="H8300", but utterly destroyed|strong="H2763" all that breathed|strong="H5397", as the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478" commanded|strong="H6680".
41 And Joshua|strong="H3091" smote|strong="H5221" them from Kadesh-barnea|strong="H6947" even unto Gaza|strong="H5804", and all the country|strong="H0776" of Goshen|strong="H1657", even unto Gibeon|strong="H1391".
42 And all these kings|strong="H4428" and their land|strong="H0776" did Joshua|strong="H3091" take|strong="H3920" at one|strong="H0259" time|strong="H6471", because the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478" fought|strong="H3898" for Israel|strong="H3478".
43 And Joshua|strong="H3091" returned|strong="H7725", and all Israel|strong="H3478" with him, unto the camp|strong="H4264" to Gilgal|strong="H1537".
