1 And it came to pass, when Jabin|strong="H2985" king|strong="H4428" of Hazor|strong="H2674" had heard|strong="H8085" those things, that he sent|strong="H7971" to Jobab|strong="H3103" king|strong="H4428" of Madon|strong="H4068", and to the king|strong="H4428" of Shimron|strong="H8110", and to the king|strong="H4428" of Achshaph|strong="H0407",
2 And to the kings|strong="H4428" that were on the north|strong="H6828" of the mountains|strong="H2022", and of the plains|strong="H6160" south|strong="H5045" of Chinneroth|strong="H3672", and in the valley|strong="H8219", and in the borders|strong="H5299" of Dor|strong="H1756" on the west|strong="H3220",
3 And to the Canaanite|strong="H3669" on the east|strong="H4217" and on the west|strong="H3220", and to the Amorite|strong="H0567", and the Hittite|strong="H2850", and the Perizzite|strong="H6522", and the Jebusite|strong="H2983" in the mountains|strong="H2022", and to the Hivite|strong="H2340" under Hermon|strong="H2768" in the land|strong="H0776" of Mizpeh|strong="H4709".
4 And they went out|strong="H3318", they and all their hosts|strong="H4264" with them, much|strong="H7227" people|strong="H5971", even as the sand|strong="H2344" that is upon the sea|strong="H3220" shore|strong="H8193" in multitude|strong="H7230", with horses|strong="H5483" and chariots|strong="H7393" very|strong="H3966" many|strong="H7227".
5 And when all these kings|strong="H4428" were met together|strong="H3259", they came|strong="H0935" and pitched|strong="H2583" together|strong="H3162" at the waters|strong="H4325" of Merom|strong="H4792", to fight|strong="H3898" against Israel|strong="H3478".
6 And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H0559" unto Joshua|strong="H3091", Be not afraid|strong="H3372" because|strong="H6440" of them: for to morrow|strong="H4279" about this time|strong="H6256" will I deliver them up|strong="H5414" all slain|strong="H2491" before|strong="H6440" Israel|strong="H3478": thou shalt hough|strong="H6131" their horses|strong="H5483", and burn|strong="H8313" their chariots|strong="H4818" with fire|strong="H0784".
7 So Joshua|strong="H3091" came|strong="H0935", and all the people|strong="H5971" of war|strong="H4421" with him, against them by the waters|strong="H4325" of Merom|strong="H4792" suddenly|strong="H6597"; and they fell upon|strong="H5307" them.
8 And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* delivered|strong="H5414" them into the hand|strong="H3027" of Israel|strong="H3478", who smote|strong="H5221" them, and chased|strong="H7291" them unto great|strong="H7227" Zidon|strong="H6721", and unto Misrephoth-maim|strong="H4956", and unto the valley|strong="H1237" of Mizpeh|strong="H4708" eastward|strong="H4217"; and they smote|strong="H5221" them, until they left|strong="H7604" them none remaining|strong="H8300".
9 And Joshua|strong="H3091" did|strong="H6213" unto them as the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* bade|strong="H0559" him: he houghed|strong="H6131" their horses|strong="H5483", and burnt|strong="H8313" their chariots|strong="H4818" with fire|strong="H0784".
10 And Joshua|strong="H3091" at that time|strong="H6256" turned back|strong="H7725", and took|strong="H3920" Hazor|strong="H2674", and smote|strong="H5221" the king|strong="H4428" thereof with the sword|strong="H2719": for Hazor|strong="H2674" beforetime|strong="H6440" was the head|strong="H7218" of all those kingdoms|strong="H4467".
11 And they smote|strong="H5221" all the souls|strong="H5315" that were therein with the edge|strong="H6310" of the sword|strong="H2719", utterly destroying|strong="H2763" them: there was not any left|strong="H3498" to breathe|strong="H5397": and he burnt|strong="H8313" Hazor|strong="H2674" with fire|strong="H0784".
12 And all the cities|strong="H5892" of those kings|strong="H4428", and all the kings|strong="H4428" of them, did Joshua|strong="H3091" take|strong="H3920", and smote|strong="H5221" them with the edge|strong="H6310" of the sword|strong="H2719", and he utterly destroyed|strong="H2763" them, as Moses|strong="H4872" the servant|strong="H5650" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* commanded|strong="H6680".
13 But as for the cities|strong="H5892" that stood|strong="H5975" still in their strength|strong="H8510", Israel|strong="H3478" burned|strong="H8313" none of them, save|strong="H2108" Hazor|strong="H2674" only; that did Joshua|strong="H3091" burn|strong="H8313".
14 And all the spoil|strong="H7998" of these cities|strong="H5892", and the cattle|strong="H0929", the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" took for a prey|strong="H0962" unto themselves; but every man|strong="H0120" they smote|strong="H5221" with the edge|strong="H6310" of the sword|strong="H2719", until they had destroyed|strong="H8045" them, neither left|strong="H7604" they any to breathe|strong="H5397".
15 As the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* commanded|strong="H6680" Moses|strong="H4872" his servant|strong="H5650", so did Moses|strong="H4872" command|strong="H6680" Joshua|strong="H3091", and so did|strong="H6213" Joshua|strong="H3091"; he left|strong="H5493" nothing|strong="H1697" undone|strong="H5493" of all that the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* commanded|strong="H6680" Moses|strong="H4872".
16 So Joshua|strong="H3091" took|strong="H3947" all that land|strong="H0776", the hills|strong="H2022", and all the south country|strong="H5045", and all the land|strong="H0776" of Goshen|strong="H1657", and the valley|strong="H8219", and the plain|strong="H6160", and the mountain|strong="H2022" of Israel|strong="H3478", and the valley|strong="H8219" of the same;
17 Even from the mount|strong="H2022" Halak|strong="H2510", that goeth up|strong="H5927" to Seir|strong="H8165", even unto Baal-gad|strong="H1171" in the valley|strong="H1237" of Lebanon|strong="H3844" under mount|strong="H2022" Hermon|strong="H2768": and all their kings|strong="H4428" he took|strong="H3920", and smote|strong="H5221" them, and slew|strong="H4191" them.
18 Joshua|strong="H3091" made|strong="H6213" war|strong="H4421" a long|strong="H7227" time|strong="H3117" with all those kings|strong="H4428".
19 There was not a city|strong="H5892" that made peace|strong="H7999" with the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478", save the Hivites|strong="H2340" the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of Gibeon|strong="H1391": all other they took|strong="H3947" in battle|strong="H4421".
20 For it was of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* to harden|strong="H2388" their hearts|strong="H3820", that they should come against|strong="H7125" Israel|strong="H3478" in battle|strong="H4421", that he might destroy them utterly|strong="H2763", and that they might have no favour|strong="H8467", but that he might destroy|strong="H8045" them, as the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* commanded|strong="H6680" Moses|strong="H4872".
21 And at that time|strong="H6256" came|strong="H0935" Joshua|strong="H3091", and cut off|strong="H3772" the Anakims|strong="H6062" from the mountains|strong="H2022", from Hebron|strong="H2275", from Debir|strong="H1688", from Anab|strong="H6024", and from all the mountains|strong="H2022" of Judah|strong="H3063", and from all the mountains|strong="H2022" of Israel|strong="H3478": Joshua|strong="H3091" destroyed them utterly|strong="H2763" with their cities|strong="H5892".
22 There was none of the Anakims|strong="H6062" left|strong="H3498" in the land|strong="H0776" of the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478": only in Gaza|strong="H5804", in Gath|strong="H1661", and in Ashdod|strong="H0795", there remained|strong="H7604".
23 So Joshua|strong="H3091" took|strong="H3947" the whole land|strong="H0776", according to all that the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H1696" unto Moses|strong="H4872"; and Joshua|strong="H3091" gave|strong="H5414" it for an inheritance|strong="H5159" unto Israel|strong="H3478" according to their divisions|strong="H4256" by their tribes|strong="H7626". And the land|strong="H0776" rested|strong="H8252" from war|strong="H4421".
