Jeremias 51

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; Behold, I will raise up|strong="H5782" against Babylon|strong="H0894", and against them that dwell|strong="H3427" in the midst|strong="H3820" of them that rise up|strong="H6965" against me, a destroying|strong="H7843" wind|strong="H7307";

And will send|strong="H7971" unto Babylon|strong="H0894" fanners|strong="H2114", that shall fan|strong="H2219" her, and shall empty|strong="H1238" her land|strong="H0776": for in the day|strong="H3117" of trouble|strong="H7451" they shall be against her round about|strong="H5439".

Against him that bendeth|strong="H1869" let the archer|strong="H1869" bend|strong="H1869" his bow|strong="H7198", and against him that lifteth himself up|strong="H5927" in his brigandine|strong="H5630": and spare|strong="H2550" ye not her young men|strong="H0970"; destroy ye utterly|strong="H2763" all her host|strong="H6635".

Thus the slain|strong="H2491" shall fall|strong="H5307" in the land|strong="H0776" of the Chaldeans|strong="H3778", and they that are thrust through|strong="H1856" in her streets|strong="H2351".

For Israel|strong="H3478" hath not been forsaken|strong="H0488", nor Judah|strong="H3063" of his God|strong="H0430", of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635"; though their land|strong="H0776" was filled|strong="H4390" with sin|strong="H0817" against the Holy One|strong="H6918" of Israel|strong="H3478".

Flee out|strong="H5127" of the midst|strong="H8432" of Babylon|strong="H0894", and deliver|strong="H4422" every man|strong="H0376" his soul|strong="H5315": be not cut off|strong="H1826" in her iniquity|strong="H5771"; for this is the time|strong="H6256" of the \+w LORD’s|strong="H3068"\+w* vengeance|strong="H5360"; he will render|strong="H7999" unto her a recompence|strong="H1576".

Babylon|strong="H0894" hath been a golden|strong="H2091" cup|strong="H3563" in the \+w LORD’s|strong="H3068"\+w* hand|strong="H3027", that made all the earth|strong="H0776" drunken|strong="H7937": the nations|strong="H1471" have drunken|strong="H8354" of her wine|strong="H3196"; therefore the nations|strong="H1471" are mad|strong="H1984".

Babylon|strong="H0894" is suddenly|strong="H6597" fallen|strong="H5307" and destroyed|strong="H7665": howl|strong="H3213" for her; take|strong="H3947" balm|strong="H6875" for her pain|strong="H4341", if so be she may be healed|strong="H7495".

We would have healed|strong="H7495" Babylon|strong="H0894", but she is not healed|strong="H7495": forsake|strong="H5800" her, and let us go|strong="H3212" every one|strong="H0376" into his own country|strong="H0776": for her judgment|strong="H4941" reacheth|strong="H5060" unto heaven|strong="H8064", and is lifted up|strong="H5375" even to the skies|strong="H7834".

The \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath brought forth|strong="H3318" our righteousness|strong="H6666": come|strong="H0935", and let us declare|strong="H5608" in Zion|strong="H6726" the work|strong="H4639" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* our God|strong="H0430".

Make bright|strong="H1305" the arrows|strong="H2671"; gather|strong="H4390" the shields|strong="H7982": the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath raised up|strong="H5782" the spirit|strong="H7307" of the kings|strong="H4428" of the Medes|strong="H4074": for his device|strong="H4209" is against Babylon|strong="H0894", to destroy|strong="H7843" it; because it is the vengeance|strong="H5360" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, the vengeance|strong="H5360" of his temple|strong="H1964".

Set up|strong="H5375" the standard|strong="H5251" upon the walls|strong="H2346" of Babylon|strong="H0894", make the watch|strong="H4929" strong|strong="H2388", set up|strong="H6965" the watchmen|strong="H8104", prepare|strong="H3559" the ambushes|strong="H0693": for the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath both devised|strong="H2161" and done|strong="H6213" that which he spake|strong="H1696" against the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of Babylon|strong="H0894".

O thou that dwellest|strong="H7931" upon many|strong="H7227" waters|strong="H4325", abundant|strong="H7227" in treasures|strong="H0214", thine end|strong="H7093" is come|strong="H0935", and the measure|strong="H0520" of thy covetousness|strong="H1215".

The \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635" hath sworn|strong="H7650" by himself|strong="H5315", saying, Surely I will fill|strong="H4390" thee with men|strong="H0120", as with caterpillers|strong="H3218"; and they shall lift up|strong="H6030" a shout|strong="H1959" against thee.

He hath made|strong="H6213" the earth|strong="H0776" by his power|strong="H3581", he hath established|strong="H3559" the world|strong="H8398" by his wisdom|strong="H2451", and hath stretched out|strong="H5186" the heaven|strong="H8064" by his understanding|strong="H8394".

When he uttereth|strong="H5414" his voice|strong="H6963", there is a multitude|strong="H1995" of waters|strong="H4325" in the heavens|strong="H8064"; and he causeth the vapours|strong="H5387" to ascend|strong="H5927" from the ends|strong="H7097" of the earth|strong="H0776": he maketh|strong="H6213" lightnings|strong="H1300" with rain|strong="H4306", and bringeth forth|strong="H3318" the wind|strong="H7307" out of his treasures|strong="H0214".

Every man|strong="H0120" is brutish|strong="H1197" by his knowledge|strong="H1847"; every founder|strong="H6884" is confounded|strong="H3001" by the graven image|strong="H6459": for his molten image|strong="H5262" is falsehood|strong="H8267", and there is no breath|strong="H7307" in them.

They are vanity|strong="H1892", the work|strong="H4639" of errors|strong="H8595": in the time|strong="H6256" of their visitation|strong="H6486" they shall perish|strong="H0006".

The portion|strong="H2506" of Jacob|strong="H3290" is not like them; for he is the former|strong="H3335" of all things: and Israel is the rod|strong="H7626" of his inheritance|strong="H5159": the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635" is his name|strong="H8034".

Thou art my battle axe|strong="H4661" and weapons|strong="H3627" of war|strong="H4421": for with thee will I break in pieces|strong="H5310" the nations|strong="H1471", and with thee will I destroy|strong="H7843" kingdoms|strong="H4467";

And with thee will I break in pieces|strong="H5310" the horse|strong="H5483" and his rider|strong="H7392"; and with thee will I break in pieces|strong="H5310" the chariot|strong="H7393" and his rider|strong="H7392";

With thee also will I break in pieces|strong="H5310" man|strong="H0376" and woman|strong="H0802"; and with thee will I break in pieces|strong="H5310" old|strong="H2205" and young|strong="H5288"; and with thee will I break in pieces|strong="H5310" the young man|strong="H0970" and the maid|strong="H1330";

I will also break in pieces|strong="H5310" with thee the shepherd|strong="H7462" and his flock|strong="H5739"; and with thee will I break in pieces|strong="H5310" the husbandman|strong="H0406" and his yoke of oxen|strong="H6776"; and with thee will I break in pieces|strong="H5310" captains|strong="H6346" and rulers|strong="H5461".

And I will render|strong="H7999" unto Babylon|strong="H0894" and to all the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of Chaldea|strong="H3778" all their evil|strong="H7451" that they have done|strong="H6213" in Zion|strong="H6726" in your sight|strong="H5869", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

Behold, I am against thee, O destroying|strong="H4889" mountain|strong="H2022", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, which destroyest|strong="H7843" all the earth|strong="H0776": and I will stretch out|strong="H5186" mine hand|strong="H3027" upon thee, and roll thee down|strong="H1556" from the rocks|strong="H5553", and will make|strong="H5414" thee a burnt|strong="H8316" mountain|strong="H2022".

And they shall not take|strong="H3947" of thee a stone|strong="H0068" for a corner|strong="H6438", nor a stone|strong="H0068" for foundations|strong="H4146"; but thou shalt be desolate|strong="H8077" for ever|strong="H5769", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

Set ye up|strong="H5375" a standard|strong="H5251" in the land|strong="H0776", blow|strong="H8628" the trumpet|strong="H7782" among the nations|strong="H1471", prepare|strong="H6942" the nations|strong="H1471" against her, call together|strong="H8085" against her the kingdoms|strong="H4467" of Ararat|strong="H0780", Minni|strong="H4508", and Ashchenaz|strong="H0813"; appoint|strong="H6485" a captain|strong="H2951" against her; cause the horses|strong="H5483" to come up|strong="H5927" as the rough|strong="H5569" caterpillers|strong="H3218".

Prepare|strong="H6942" against her the nations|strong="H1471" with the kings|strong="H4428" of the Medes|strong="H4074", the captains|strong="H6346" thereof, and all the rulers|strong="H5461" thereof, and all the land|strong="H0776" of his dominion|strong="H4475".

And the land|strong="H0776" shall tremble|strong="H7493" and sorrow|strong="H2342": for every purpose|strong="H4284" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* shall be performed|strong="H6965" against Babylon|strong="H0894", to make|strong="H7760" the land|strong="H0776" of Babylon|strong="H0894" a desolation|strong="H8047" without an inhabitant|strong="H3427".

The mighty men|strong="H1368" of Babylon|strong="H0894" have forborn|strong="H2308" to fight|strong="H3898", they have remained|strong="H3427" in their holds|strong="H4679": their might|strong="H1369" hath failed|strong="H5405"; they became as women|strong="H0802": they have burned|strong="H3341" her dwellingplaces|strong="H4908"; her bars|strong="H1280" are broken|strong="H7665".

One post|strong="H7323" shall run|strong="H7323" to meet|strong="H7125" another|strong="H7323", and one messenger|strong="H5046" to meet|strong="H7125" another|strong="H5046", to shew|strong="H5046" the king|strong="H4428" of Babylon|strong="H0894" that his city|strong="H5892" is taken|strong="H3920" at one end|strong="H7097",

And that the passages|strong="H4569" are stopped|strong="H8610", and the reeds|strong="H0098" they have burned|strong="H8313" with fire|strong="H0784", and the men|strong="H0582" of war|strong="H4421" are affrighted|strong="H0926".

For thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635", the God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478"; The daughter|strong="H1323" of Babylon|strong="H0894" is like a threshingfloor|strong="H1637", it is time|strong="H6256" to thresh|strong="H1869" her: yet a little while|strong="H4592", and the time|strong="H6256" of her harvest|strong="H7105" shall come|strong="H0935".

Nebuchadrezzar|strong="H5019" the king|strong="H4428" of Babylon|strong="H0894" hath devoured|strong="H0398" me, he hath crushed|strong="H2000" me, he hath made|strong="H3322" me an empty|strong="H7385" vessel|strong="H3627", he hath swallowed me up|strong="H1104" like a dragon|strong="H8577", he hath filled|strong="H4390" his belly|strong="H3770" with my delicates|strong="H5730", he hath cast me out|strong="H1740".

The violence|strong="H2555" done to me and to my flesh|strong="H7607" be upon Babylon|strong="H0894", shall the inhabitant|strong="H3427" of Zion|strong="H6726" say|strong="H0559"; and my blood|strong="H1818" upon the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of Chaldea|strong="H3778", shall Jerusalem|strong="H3389" say|strong="H0559".

Therefore thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; Behold, I will plead|strong="H7378" thy cause|strong="H7379", and take vengeance|strong="H5358" for thee|strong="H5360"; and I will dry up|strong="H2717" her sea|strong="H3220", and make her springs|strong="H4726" dry|strong="H3001".

And Babylon|strong="H0894" shall become heaps|strong="H1530", a dwellingplace|strong="H4583" for dragons|strong="H8577", an astonishment|strong="H8047", and an hissing|strong="H8322", without an inhabitant|strong="H3427".

They shall roar|strong="H7580" together|strong="H3162" like lions|strong="H3715": they shall yell|strong="H5286" as lions’|strong="H0738" whelps|strong="H1484".

In their heat|strong="H2527" I will make|strong="H7896" their feasts|strong="H4960", and I will make them drunken|strong="H7937", that they may rejoice|strong="H5937", and sleep|strong="H3462" a perpetual|strong="H5769" sleep|strong="H8142", and not wake|strong="H6974", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

I will bring them down|strong="H3381" like lambs|strong="H3733" to the slaughter|strong="H2873", like rams|strong="H0352" with he goats|strong="H6260".

How is Sheshach|strong="H8347" taken|strong="H3920"! and how is the praise|strong="H8416" of the whole earth|strong="H0776" surprised|strong="H8610"! how is Babylon|strong="H0894" become an astonishment|strong="H8047" among the nations|strong="H1471"!

The sea|strong="H3220" is come up|strong="H5927" upon Babylon|strong="H0894": she is covered|strong="H3680" with the multitude|strong="H1995" of the waves|strong="H1530" thereof.

Her cities|strong="H5892" are a desolation|strong="H8047", a dry|strong="H6723" land|strong="H0776", and a wilderness|strong="H6160", a land|strong="H0776" wherein no man|strong="H0376" dwelleth|strong="H3427", neither doth any son|strong="H1121" of man|strong="H0120" pass|strong="H5674" thereby|strong="H2004".

And I will punish|strong="H6485" Bel|strong="H1078" in Babylon|strong="H0894", and I will bring forth|strong="H3318" out of his mouth|strong="H6310" that which he hath swallowed up|strong="H1105": and the nations|strong="H1471" shall not flow together|strong="H5102" any more unto him: yea, the wall|strong="H2346" of Babylon|strong="H0894" shall fall|strong="H5307".

My people|strong="H5971", go ye out|strong="H3318" of the midst|strong="H8432" of her, and deliver|strong="H4422" ye every man|strong="H0376" his soul|strong="H5315" from the fierce|strong="H2740" anger|strong="H0639" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

And lest your heart|strong="H3824" faint|strong="H7401", and ye fear|strong="H3372" for the rumour|strong="H8052" that shall be heard|strong="H8085" in the land|strong="H0776"; a rumour|strong="H8052" shall both come|strong="H0935" one year|strong="H8141", and after|strong="H0310" that in another year|strong="H8141" shall come a rumour|strong="H8052", and violence|strong="H2555" in the land|strong="H0776", ruler|strong="H4910" against ruler|strong="H4910".

Therefore, behold, the days|strong="H3117" come|strong="H0935", that I will do judgment|strong="H6485" upon the graven images|strong="H6456" of Babylon|strong="H0894": and her whole land|strong="H0776" shall be confounded|strong="H0954", and all her slain|strong="H2491" shall fall|strong="H5307" in the midst|strong="H8432" of her.

Then the heaven|strong="H8064" and the earth|strong="H0776", and all that is therein, shall sing|strong="H7442" for Babylon|strong="H0894": for the spoilers|strong="H7703" shall come|strong="H0935" unto her from the north|strong="H6828", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

As|strong="H1571" Babylon|strong="H0894" hath caused the slain|strong="H2491" of Israel|strong="H3478" to fall|strong="H5307", so at Babylon|strong="H0894" shall fall|strong="H5307" the slain|strong="H2491" of all the earth|strong="H0776".

Ye that have escaped|strong="H6405" the sword|strong="H2719", go away|strong="H1980", stand not still|strong="H5975": remember|strong="H2142" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* afar off|strong="H7350", and let Jerusalem|strong="H3389" come|strong="H5927" into your mind|strong="H3824".

We are confounded|strong="H0954", because we have heard|strong="H8085" reproach|strong="H2781": shame|strong="H3639" hath covered|strong="H3680" our faces|strong="H6440": for strangers|strong="H2114" are come|strong="H0935" into the sanctuaries|strong="H4720" of the \+w LORD’s|strong="H3068"\+w* house|strong="H1004".

Wherefore, behold, the days|strong="H3117" come|strong="H0935", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, that I will do judgment|strong="H6485" upon her graven images|strong="H6456": and through all her land|strong="H0776" the wounded|strong="H2491" shall groan|strong="H0602".

Though Babylon|strong="H0894" should mount up|strong="H5927" to heaven|strong="H8064", and though she should fortify|strong="H1219" the height|strong="H4791" of her strength|strong="H5797", \+w yet|strong="H0227"\+w* from me shall spoilers|strong="H7703" come|strong="H0935" unto her, saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

A sound|strong="H6963" of a cry|strong="H2201" cometh from Babylon|strong="H0894", and great|strong="H1419" destruction|strong="H7667" from the land|strong="H0776" of the Chaldeans|strong="H3778":

Because the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath spoiled|strong="H7703" Babylon|strong="H0894", and destroyed|strong="H0006" out of her the great|strong="H1419" voice|strong="H6963"; when her waves|strong="H1530" do roar|strong="H1993" like great|strong="H7227" waters|strong="H4325", a noise|strong="H7588" of their voice|strong="H6963" is uttered|strong="H5414":

Because the spoiler|strong="H7703" is come|strong="H0935" upon her, even upon Babylon|strong="H0894", and her mighty men|strong="H1368" are taken|strong="H3920", every one of their bows|strong="H7198" is broken|strong="H2865": for the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0410" of recompences|strong="H1578" shall surely|strong="H7999" requite|strong="H7999".

And I will make drunk|strong="H7937" her princes|strong="H8269", and her wise|strong="H2450" men, her captains|strong="H6346", and her rulers|strong="H5461", and her mighty men|strong="H1368": and they shall sleep|strong="H3462" a perpetual|strong="H5769" sleep|strong="H8142", and not wake|strong="H6974", saith|strong="H5002" the King|strong="H4428", whose name|strong="H8034" is the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635".

Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635"; The broad|strong="H7342" walls|strong="H2346" of Babylon|strong="H0894" shall be utterly|strong="H6209" broken|strong="H6209", and her high|strong="H1364" gates|strong="H8179" shall be burned|strong="H3341" with fire|strong="H0784"; and the people|strong="H5971" shall labour|strong="H3021" in vain|strong="H7385", and the folk|strong="H3816" in|strong="H1767" the fire|strong="H0784", and they shall be weary|strong="H3286".

The word|strong="H1697" which Jeremiah|strong="H3414" the prophet|strong="H5030" commanded|strong="H6680" Seraiah|strong="H8304" the son|strong="H1121" of Neriah|strong="H5374", the son|strong="H1121" of Maaseiah|strong="H4271", when he went|strong="H3212" with Zedekiah|strong="H6667" the king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063" into Babylon|strong="H0894" in the fourth|strong="H7243" year|strong="H8141" of his reign|strong="H4427". And this Seraiah|strong="H8304" was a quiet|strong="H4496" prince|strong="H8269".

So Jeremiah|strong="H3414" wrote|strong="H3789" in a|strong="H0259" book|strong="H5612" all the evil|strong="H7451" that should come|strong="H0935" upon Babylon|strong="H0894", even all these words|strong="H1697" that are written|strong="H3789" against Babylon|strong="H0894".

And Jeremiah|strong="H3414" said|strong="H0559" to Seraiah|strong="H8304", When thou comest|strong="H0935" to Babylon|strong="H0894", and shalt see|strong="H7200", and shalt read|strong="H7121" all these words|strong="H1697";

Then shalt thou say|strong="H0559", O \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, thou hast spoken|strong="H1696" against this place|strong="H4725", to cut it off|strong="H3772", that none shall remain|strong="H3427" in it, neither man|strong="H0120" nor beast|strong="H0929", but that it shall be desolate|strong="H8077" for ever|strong="H5769".

And it shall be, when thou hast made an end|strong="H3615" of reading|strong="H7121" this book|strong="H5612", that thou shalt bind|strong="H7194" a stone|strong="H0068" to it, and cast|strong="H7993" it into the midst|strong="H8432" of Euphrates|strong="H6578":

And thou shalt say|strong="H0559", Thus shall Babylon|strong="H0894" sink|strong="H8257", and shall not rise|strong="H6965" from|strong="H6440" the evil|strong="H7451" that I will bring|strong="H0935" upon her: and they shall be weary|strong="H3286". Thus far are the words|strong="H1697" of Jeremiah|strong="H3414".
