1 Now it came to pass in the seventh|strong="H7637" month|strong="H2320", that Ishmael|strong="H3458" the son|strong="H1121" of Nethaniah|strong="H5418" the son|strong="H1121" of Elishama|strong="H0476", of the seed|strong="H2233" royal|strong="H4410", and the princes|strong="H7227" of the king|strong="H4428", even ten|strong="H6235" men|strong="H0582" with him, came|strong="H0935" unto Gedaliah|strong="H1436" the son|strong="H1121" of Ahikam|strong="H0296" to Mizpah|strong="H4709"; and there they did eat|strong="H0398" bread|strong="H3899" together|strong="H3162" in Mizpah|strong="H4708".
2 Then arose|strong="H6965" Ishmael|strong="H3458" the son|strong="H1121" of Nethaniah|strong="H5418", and the ten|strong="H6235" men|strong="H0582" that were with him, and smote|strong="H5221" Gedaliah|strong="H1436" the son|strong="H1121" of Ahikam|strong="H0296" the son|strong="H1121" of Shaphan|strong="H8227" with the sword|strong="H2719", and slew|strong="H4191" him, whom the king|strong="H4428" of Babylon|strong="H0894" had made governor|strong="H6485" over the land|strong="H0776".
3 Ishmael|strong="H3458" also slew|strong="H5221" all the Jews|strong="H3064" that were with him, even with Gedaliah|strong="H1436", at Mizpah|strong="H4709", and the Chaldeans|strong="H3778" that were found|strong="H4672" there, and the men|strong="H0582" of war|strong="H4421".
4 And it came to pass the second|strong="H8145" day|strong="H3117" after he had slain|strong="H4191" Gedaliah|strong="H1436", and no man|strong="H0376" knew|strong="H3045" it,
5 That there came|strong="H0935" certain|strong="H0582" from Shechem|strong="H7927", from Shiloh|strong="H7887", and from Samaria|strong="H8111", even fourscore|strong="H8084" men|strong="H0376", having their beards|strong="H2206" shaven|strong="H1548", and their clothes|strong="H0899" rent|strong="H7167", and having cut|strong="H1413" themselves, with offerings|strong="H4503" and incense|strong="H3828" in their hand|strong="H3027", to bring|strong="H0935" them to the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.
6 And Ishmael|strong="H3458" the son|strong="H1121" of Nethaniah|strong="H5418" went forth|strong="H3318" from Mizpah|strong="H4709" to meet|strong="H7125" them, weeping|strong="H1058" all along|strong="H1980" as he went|strong="H1980": and it came to pass, as he met|strong="H6298" them, he said|strong="H0559" unto them, Come|strong="H0935" to Gedaliah|strong="H1436" the son|strong="H1121" of Ahikam|strong="H0296".
7 And it was so, when they came|strong="H0935" into the midst|strong="H8432" of the city|strong="H5892", that Ishmael|strong="H3458" the son|strong="H1121" of Nethaniah|strong="H5418" slew|strong="H7819" them, and cast them into the midst|strong="H8432" of the pit|strong="H0953", he, and the men|strong="H0582" that were with him.
8 But ten|strong="H6235" men|strong="H0582" were found|strong="H4672" among them that said|strong="H0559" unto Ishmael|strong="H3458", Slay|strong="H4191" us not: for we have|strong="H3426" treasures|strong="H4301" in the field|strong="H7704", of wheat|strong="H2406", and of barley|strong="H8184", and of oil|strong="H8081", and of honey|strong="H1706". So he forbare|strong="H2308", and slew|strong="H4191" them not among|strong="H8432" their brethren|strong="H0251".
9 Now the pit|strong="H0953" wherein Ishmael|strong="H3458" had cast|strong="H7993" all the dead bodies|strong="H6297" of the men|strong="H0582", whom he had slain|strong="H5221" because|strong="H3027" of Gedaliah|strong="H1436", was it which Asa|strong="H0609" the king|strong="H4428" had made|strong="H6213" for fear|strong="H6440" of Baasha|strong="H1201" king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478": and Ishmael|strong="H3458" the son|strong="H1121" of Nethaniah|strong="H5418" filled|strong="H4390" it with them that were slain|strong="H2491".
10 Then Ishmael|strong="H3458" carried away captive|strong="H7617" all the residue|strong="H7611" of the people|strong="H5971" that were in Mizpah|strong="H4709", even the king’s|strong="H4428" daughters|strong="H1323", and all the people|strong="H5971" that remained|strong="H7604" in Mizpah|strong="H4709", whom Nebuzar-adan|strong="H5018" the captain|strong="H7227" of the guard|strong="H2876" had committed|strong="H6485" to Gedaliah|strong="H1436" the son|strong="H1121" of Ahikam|strong="H0296": and Ishmael|strong="H3458" the son|strong="H1121" of Nethaniah|strong="H5418" carried them away captive|strong="H7617", and departed|strong="H3212" to go over|strong="H5674" to the Ammonites|strong="H1121".
11 But when Johanan|strong="H3110" the son|strong="H1121" of Kareah|strong="H7143", and all the captains|strong="H8269" of the forces|strong="H2428" that were with him, heard|strong="H8085" of all the evil|strong="H7451" that Ishmael|strong="H3458" the son|strong="H1121" of Nethaniah|strong="H5418" had done|strong="H6213",
12 Then they took|strong="H3947" all the men|strong="H0582", and went|strong="H3212" to fight|strong="H3898" with Ishmael|strong="H3458" the son|strong="H1121" of Nethaniah|strong="H5418", and found|strong="H4672" him by the great|strong="H7227" waters|strong="H4325" that are in Gibeon|strong="H1391".
13 Now it came to pass, that when all the people|strong="H5971" which were with Ishmael|strong="H3458" saw|strong="H7200" Johanan|strong="H3110" the son|strong="H1121" of Kareah|strong="H7143", and all the captains|strong="H8269" of the forces|strong="H2428" that were with him, then they were glad|strong="H8055".
14 So all the people|strong="H5971" that Ishmael|strong="H3458" had carried away captive|strong="H7617" from Mizpah|strong="H4709" cast about|strong="H5437" and returned|strong="H7725", and went|strong="H3212" unto Johanan|strong="H3110" the son|strong="H1121" of Kareah|strong="H7143".
15 But Ishmael|strong="H3458" the son|strong="H1121" of Nethaniah|strong="H5418" escaped|strong="H4422" from|strong="H6440" Johanan|strong="H3110" with eight|strong="H8083" men|strong="H0582", and went|strong="H3212" to the Ammonites|strong="H1121".
16 Then took|strong="H3947" Johanan|strong="H3110" the son|strong="H1121" of Kareah|strong="H7143", and all the captains|strong="H8269" of the forces|strong="H2428" that were with him, all the remnant|strong="H7611" of the people|strong="H5971" whom he had recovered|strong="H7725" from Ishmael|strong="H3458" the son|strong="H1121" of Nethaniah|strong="H5418", from Mizpah|strong="H4709", after|strong="H0310" that he had slain|strong="H5221" Gedaliah|strong="H1436" the son|strong="H1121" of Ahikam|strong="H0296", even mighty|strong="H1397" men|strong="H0582" of war|strong="H4421", and the women|strong="H0802", and the children|strong="H2945", and the eunuchs|strong="H5631", whom he had brought again|strong="H7725" from Gibeon|strong="H1391":
17 And they departed|strong="H3212", and dwelt in|strong="H3427" the habitation|strong="H1628" of Chimham|strong="H3643", which is by|strong="H0681" Beth-lehem|strong="H1035", to go|strong="H3212" to enter|strong="H0935" into Egypt|strong="H4714",
18 Because|strong="H6440" of the Chaldeans|strong="H3778": for they were afraid|strong="H3372" of them, because Ishmael|strong="H3458" the son|strong="H1121" of Nethaniah|strong="H5418" had slain|strong="H5221" Gedaliah|strong="H1436" the son|strong="H1121" of Ahikam|strong="H0296", whom the king|strong="H4428" of Babylon|strong="H0894" made governor|strong="H6485" in the land|strong="H0776".
