1 The word|strong="H1697" that came to Jeremiah|strong="H3414" from the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, after|strong="H0310" that Nebuzar-adan|strong="H5018" the captain|strong="H7227" of the guard|strong="H2876" had let him go|strong="H7971" from Ramah|strong="H7414", when he had taken|strong="H3947" him being bound|strong="H0631" in chains|strong="H0246" among|strong="H8432" all that were carried away captive|strong="H1546" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389" and Judah|strong="H3063", which were carried away captive|strong="H1540" unto Babylon|strong="H0894".
2 And the captain|strong="H7227" of the guard|strong="H2876" took|strong="H3947" Jeremiah|strong="H3414", and said|strong="H0559" unto him, The \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* thy God|strong="H0430" hath pronounced|strong="H1696" this evil|strong="H7451" upon this place|strong="H4725".
3 Now the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath brought|strong="H0935" it, and done|strong="H6213" according as he hath said|strong="H1696": because ye have sinned|strong="H2398" against the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and have not obeyed|strong="H8085" his voice|strong="H6963", therefore this thing|strong="H1697" is come upon you.
4 And now, behold, I loose|strong="H6605" thee this day|strong="H3117" from the chains|strong="H0246" which were upon thine hand|strong="H3027". If it seem good|strong="H2896" unto thee to come|strong="H0935" with me into Babylon|strong="H0894", come|strong="H0935"; and I will look well|strong="H7760" unto thee: but if it seem ill|strong="H7489" unto thee to come|strong="H0935" with me into Babylon|strong="H0894", forbear|strong="H2308": behold|strong="H7200", all the land|strong="H0776" is before|strong="H6440" thee: whither it seemeth|strong="H0413" good|strong="H2896" and convenient|strong="H3477" for thee to go|strong="H3212", thither go|strong="H3212".
5 Now while he was not yet gone back|strong="H7725", he said, Go back|strong="H7725" also to Gedaliah|strong="H1436" the son|strong="H1121" of Ahikam|strong="H0296" the son|strong="H1121" of Shaphan|strong="H8227", whom the king|strong="H4428" of Babylon|strong="H0894" hath made governor|strong="H6485" over the cities|strong="H5892" of Judah|strong="H3063", and dwell|strong="H3427" with him among|strong="H8432" the people|strong="H5971": or go|strong="H3212" wheresoever it seemeth convenient|strong="H3477" unto thee to go|strong="H3212". So the captain|strong="H7227" of the guard|strong="H2876" gave|strong="H5414" him victuals|strong="H0737" and a reward|strong="H4864", and let him go|strong="H7971".
6 Then went|strong="H0935" Jeremiah|strong="H3414" unto Gedaliah|strong="H1436" the son|strong="H1121" of Ahikam|strong="H0296" to Mizpah|strong="H4708"; and dwelt|strong="H3427" with him among|strong="H8432" the people|strong="H5971" that were left|strong="H7604" in the land|strong="H0776".
7 Now when all the captains|strong="H8269" of the forces|strong="H2428" which were in the fields|strong="H7704", even they and their men|strong="H0582", heard|strong="H8085" that the king|strong="H4428" of Babylon|strong="H0894" had made Gedaliah|strong="H1436" the son|strong="H1121" of Ahikam|strong="H0296" governor|strong="H6485" in the land|strong="H0776", and had committed|strong="H6485" unto him men|strong="H0582", and women|strong="H0802", and children|strong="H2945", and of the poor|strong="H1803" of the land|strong="H0776", of them that were not carried away captive|strong="H1540" to Babylon|strong="H0894";
8 Then they came|strong="H0935" to Gedaliah|strong="H1436" to Mizpah|strong="H4708", even Ishmael|strong="H3458" the son|strong="H1121" of Nethaniah|strong="H5418", and Johanan|strong="H3110" and Jonathan|strong="H3129" the sons|strong="H1121" of Kareah|strong="H7143", and Seraiah|strong="H8304" the son|strong="H1121" of Tanhumeth|strong="H8576", and the sons|strong="H1121" of Ephai|strong="H5778" the Netophathite|strong="H5200", and Jezaniah|strong="H3153" the son|strong="H1121" of a Maachathite|strong="H4602", they and their men|strong="H0582".
9 And Gedaliah|strong="H1436" the son|strong="H1121" of Ahikam|strong="H0296" the son|strong="H1121" of Shaphan|strong="H8227" sware|strong="H7650" unto them and to their men|strong="H0582", saying|strong="H0559", Fear|strong="H3372" not to serve|strong="H5647" the Chaldeans|strong="H3778": dwell in|strong="H3427" the land|strong="H0776", and serve|strong="H5647" the king|strong="H4428" of Babylon|strong="H0894", and it shall be well|strong="H3190" with you.
10 As for me, behold, I will dwell|strong="H3427" at Mizpah|strong="H4709" to serve|strong="H5975" the Chaldeans|strong="H3778", which will come|strong="H0935" unto us: but ye, gather|strong="H0622" ye wine|strong="H3196", and summer fruits|strong="H7019", and oil|strong="H8081", and put|strong="H7760" them in your vessels|strong="H3627", and dwell|strong="H3427" in your cities|strong="H5892" that ye have taken|strong="H8610".
11 Likewise when all the Jews|strong="H3064" that were in Moab|strong="H4124", and among the Ammonites|strong="H5983", and in Edom|strong="H0123", and that were in all the countries|strong="H0776", heard|strong="H8085" that the king|strong="H4428" of Babylon|strong="H0894" had left|strong="H5414" a remnant|strong="H7611" of Judah|strong="H3063", and that he had set|strong="H6485" over them Gedaliah|strong="H1436" the son|strong="H1121" of Ahikam|strong="H0296" the son|strong="H1121" of Shaphan|strong="H8227";
12 Even all the Jews|strong="H3064" returned out|strong="H7725" of all places|strong="H4725" whither they were driven|strong="H5080", and came|strong="H0935" to the land|strong="H0776" of Judah|strong="H3063", to Gedaliah|strong="H1436", unto Mizpah|strong="H4708", and gathered|strong="H0622" wine|strong="H3196" and summer fruits|strong="H7019" very|strong="H3966" much|strong="H7235".
13 Moreover Johanan|strong="H3110" the son|strong="H1121" of Kareah|strong="H7143", and all the captains|strong="H8269" of the forces|strong="H2428" that were in the fields|strong="H7704", came|strong="H0935" to Gedaliah|strong="H1436" to Mizpah|strong="H4708",
14 And said|strong="H0559" unto him, Dost thou certainly|strong="H3045" know|strong="H3045" that Baalis|strong="H1185" the king|strong="H4428" of the Ammonites|strong="H1121" hath sent|strong="H7971" Ishmael|strong="H3458" the son|strong="H1121" of Nethaniah|strong="H5418" to slay|strong="H5221" thee? But Gedaliah|strong="H1436" the son|strong="H1121" of Ahikam|strong="H0296" believed|strong="H0539" them not.
15 Then Johanan|strong="H3110" the son|strong="H1121" of Kareah|strong="H7143" spake|strong="H0559" to Gedaliah|strong="H1436" in Mizpah|strong="H4709" secretly|strong="H5643", saying|strong="H0559", Let me go|strong="H3212", I pray thee, and I will slay|strong="H5221" Ishmael|strong="H3458" the son|strong="H1121" of Nethaniah|strong="H5418", and no man|strong="H0376" shall know|strong="H3045" it: wherefore should he slay|strong="H5221" thee, that all the Jews|strong="H3064" which are gathered|strong="H6908" unto thee should be scattered|strong="H6327", and the remnant|strong="H7611" in Judah|strong="H3063" perish|strong="H0006"?
16 But Gedaliah|strong="H1436" the son|strong="H1121" of Ahikam|strong="H0296" said|strong="H0559" unto Johanan|strong="H3110" the son|strong="H1121" of Kareah|strong="H7143", Thou shalt not do|strong="H6213" this thing|strong="H1697": for thou speakest|strong="H1696" falsely|strong="H8267" of Ishmael|strong="H3458".
