1 Remember, O Lord, what is come upon us: consider and behold our reproach.
1 Lembra-te, S enhor , do que aconteceu conosco e vê como fomos humilhados!
2 Our inheritance is turned to aliens: our houses to strangers.
2 Nossa herança foi entregue a estranhos, e nossas casas, a estrangeiros.
3 We are become orphans without a father: our mothers are as widows.
3 Somos órfãos e já não temos pai, e nossa mãe ficou viúva.
4 We have drunk our water for money: we have bought our wood.
4 Temos de pagar pela água que bebemos, e até a lenha nos custa caro.
5 We were dragged by the necks, we were weary and no rest was given us.
5 Os que nos perseguem estão bem perto; estamos exaustos, mas não nos deixam descansar.
6 We have given our hand to Egypt, and to the Assyrians, that we might be satisfied with bread.
6 Ao Egito e à Assíria nos sujeitamos, para conseguir alimento e sobreviver.
7 Our fathers have sinned, and are not: and we have borne their iniquities.
7 Nossos antepassados pecaram e já morreram, e nós recebemos o castigo que eles mereciam.
8 Servants have ruled over us: there was none to redeem us out of their hand.
8 Escravos se tornaram nossos senhores; não restou ninguém para nos resgatar.
9 We fetched our bread at the peril of our lives, because of the sword in the desert.
9 Arriscamos a vida à procura de alimento, pois a violência tomou conta do deserto.
10 Our skin was burnt as an oven, by reason of the violence of the famine.
10 A fome nos escureceu a pele, como se tivesse sido queimada no forno.
11 They oppressed the women in Sion, and the virgins in the cities of Juda.
11 As mulheres de Sião e as moças das cidades de Judá são violentadas por nossos inimigos.
12 The princes were hanged up by their hand: they did not respect the persons of the ancient.
12 Os príncipes são pendurados pelas mãos, os idosos são tratados com desprezo.
13 They abused the young men indecently: and the children fell under the wood.
13 Os rapazes são levados para trabalhar nos moinhos, os meninos cambaleiam sob os pesados fardos de lenha.
14 The ancients have ceased from the gates: the young men from the choir of the singers.
14 As autoridades não se sentam mais à porta das cidades, os rapazes não tocam mais música.
15 The joy of our heart is ceased, our dancing is turned into mourning.
15 A alegria desapareceu de nosso coração, nossas danças se transformaram em pranto.
16 The crown is fallen from our head woe to us, because we have sinned.
16 A coroa caiu de nossa cabeça; que aflição por causa de nosso pecado!
17 Therefore is our heart sorrowful, therefore are our eyes become dim,
17 Nosso coração desfalece, nossos olhos se embaçaram de lágrimas,
18 For mount Sion, because it is destroyed, foxes have walked upon it.
18 pois o monte Sião está desolado; tornou-se morada de chacais.
19 But thou, O Lord, shalt remain for ever, thy throne from generation to generation.
19 Mas tu, S enhor , reinas eternamente! Teu trono permanece de geração em geração.
20 Why wilt thou forget us for ever? why wilt thou forsake us for a long time?
20 Por que continuas a te esquecer de nós? Por que nos abandonaste por tanto tempo?
21 Convert us, O Lord, to thee, and we shall be converted: renew our days, as from the beginning.
21 Restaura-nos, S enhor , e faze-nos voltar para ti! Devolve-nos a alegria que tínhamos antes!
22 But thou hast utterly rejected us, thou art exceedingly angry against us.
22 Ou será que nos rejeitaste completamente? Ainda estás irado conosco?
