1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered, and said,
1 Então respondeu Elifaz, o temanita, e disse:
2 If a man tries to converse with thee, will thou be grieved? But who can withhold himself from speaking?
2 Se nos propusermos a conversar contigo, te será enfadonho. Mas quem poderá conter as palavras?
3 Behold, thou have instructed many, and thou have strengthened the weak hands.
3 Eis que instruíste a muitos, e fortaleceste as mãos fracas.
4 Thy words have upheld him who was falling, and thou have made firm the feeble knees.
4 Tuas palavras seguraram o que estava caindo, e tu fortaleceste os joelhos debilitados.
5 But now it comes to thee, and thou faint. It touches thee, and thou are troubled.
5 Mas agora isso vem sobre ti e te enfraqueces, ela toca em ti, e te perturbas.
6 Is not thy fear [of God] thy confidence, the integrity of thy ways thy hope?
6 Não é este o teu temor, tua confiança, tua esperança a retidão dos teus caminhos?
7 Remember, I pray thee, who [ever] perished, being innocent? Or where were the upright cut off?
7 Lembra, te rogo, quem nunca pereceu, sendo inocente? Ou onde foram os justos cortados?
8 According as I have seen, those who plow iniquity, and sow trouble, reap the same.
8 Como eu tenho visto, os que lavram iniquidade, e semeiam a maldade, colhem o mesmo.
9 By the breath of God they perish, and by the blast of his anger they are consumed.
9 Pelo sopro de Deus eles perecem; e pelo fôlego de suas narinas são consumidos.
10 The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken.
10 O rugido do leão, e a voz do leão feroz, e os dentes dos leõezinhos são quebrados.
11 The old lion perishes for lack of prey, and the whelps of the lioness are scattered abroad.
11 O leão velho perece por falta de presa; e os filhotes do leão robusto se dispersam.
12 Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and my ear received a whisper of it.
12 Trouxeram-me agora algo secretamente; e o meu ouvido recebeu um pouco.
13 In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on men,
13 Em pensamentos de visões noturnas, quando o sono profundo cai sobre os homens;
14 fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake.
14 medo veio sobre mim, e tremendo, todos os meus ossos estremeceram.
15 Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up.
15 Então um espírito passou diante da minha face; os cabelos da minha carne se levantaram;
16 It stood still, but I could not discern the appearance of it. A form was before my eyes. [There was] silence, and I heard a voice, [saying],
16 ficou inerte, mas eu não pude discernir sua forma; uma imagem estava diante dos meus olhos, houve silêncio, e eu ouvi uma voz dizendo:
17 Shall mortal man be more just than God? Shall a man be more pure than his maker?
17 Será o homem mortal mais justo do que Deus? Será o homem mais puro do que o seu criador?
18 Behold, he puts no trust in his servants, and he charges his [heavenly] agents with folly.
18 Eis que ele não tem confiança nos seus servos, e aos seus anjos atribuiu defeitos;
19 How much more those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed before the moth!
19 quanto menos naqueles que habitam em casas de barro, cujo fundamento está no pó, e que são esmagados diante da traça!
20 Between morning and evening they are destroyed. They perish forever without any regarding it.
20 Eles são destruídos desde a manhã até a noite; eles perecem para sempre sem nenhuma consideração.
21 Is not their tent-cord plucked up within them? They die, and that without wisdom.
21 Sua excelência, que está neles, não some? Eles morrem, e sem sabedoria.
