⁵ yourselves also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

⁸ and a stone of stumbling and rock of offence; {who} stumble at the word, being disobedient to which also they have been appointed.

⁹ Wɛɛ bɛ, bɛ làbà itwà aŋàsɔɔl, itsuŋ a angaŋ amfum, un'sɛŋ in'kyɛɛl, un'sɛŋ kàwɛl Nzam ntɔn mukal wànde. Nde kàlabel mutoo u làpib anà muman pɛɛlà ande là ubem, ntɔn bɛ làkàkyään isal ande byà ibaŋ.

⁹ But *ye* {are} a chosen race, a kingly priesthood, a holy nation, a people for a possession, that ye might set forth the excellencies of him who has called you out of darkness to his wonderful light;

¹⁰ Itaan, bɛ làkäl anki un'sɛŋ, wɛɛ apanà, bɛ làbà un'sɛŋ a Nzam. Bɛ baar mpa làwɛl nsyääm, wɛɛ apanà, bɛ làkyàwal nsyääm a Nzam.

¹⁰ who once {were} not a people, but now God's people; who were not enjoying mercy, but now have found mercy.

¹¹ Ankwen amɛ, mɛ amàlalɛɛl, asànaa alyaaŋ a mbwo anà angyey, twon lan'kal anà ilään a ndür abyà ifànwaan ità anà mɔ̈ɔ̈ abɛ.

¹¹ Beloved, I exhort {you}, as strangers and sojourners, to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

¹² having your conversation honest among the Gentiles, that {as to that} in which they speak against you as evildoers, they may through {your} good works, {themselves} witnessing {them}, glorify God in {the} day of visitation.

¹³ Làkäl anà unkyeey akà imfum a mɛɛn kyanswà, ntɔn Mwol, itàkal akà mfum awe anà ikɔ̈b a dudu,

¹⁴ itàkal akà an'kuvɛrnɔ̈ɔ̈r ufàtɔm nde mupà ntaaŋàmbar akà baar abe anà musyäŋà baar bàfàkyer ubwaŋ.

¹⁴ or to rulers as sent by him, for vengeance on evildoers, and praise to them that do well.

¹⁵ Ntɔn ba bà ukwen a Nzam naa bɛ làkyer ubwaŋ ntɔn mudübà min a insil mpa bàyöb akà undiir mwɛy.

¹⁵ Because so is the will of God, that by well-doing ye put to silence the ignorance of senseless men;

¹⁶ Làkäl asànaa baar abye anà insaay, ukɔɔn asyääl kya asànaa nkümà ntɔn mufwe nkyɛl abɛ, wɛɛ làkyer asànaa asyääl a Nzam.

¹⁶ as free, and not as having liberty as a cloak of malice, but as God's bondmen.

¹⁷ Làpɛ ibyääl akà baar banswà, lakwen atɔŋ abɛ, làyöb ikɔ̈b a Nzam, lun'syäŋà mfum.

¹⁷ Shew honour to all, love the brotherhood, fear God, honour the king.

¹⁸ Asyääl a ndwà, làkäl anà unkyeey mbɔɔn akà ankum abɛ, kànà akà bàŋàbwaŋ anà bàduu mpɛl anki, wɛɛ anà akaŋitswumbuun.

¹⁸ Servants, {be} subject with all fear to your masters, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the ill-tempered.

¹⁹ Abun, yà ubwaŋ mbɔɔn mukyey mpay bàfipà ukɔɔn isin aya, ntɔn musyäŋà Nzam.

¹⁹ For this {is} acceptable, if one, for conscience sake towards God, endure griefs, suffering unjustly.

²⁰ Abun, làkoo nà mukaŋ mpem naa bàladüb ntɔn ibii lan'kyer bɛ? Wɛɛ isàkal naa bɛ lan'man mpay ntɔn ubwaŋ lan'kyer bɛ, la là kab a ngway u mii a Nzam.

²⁰ For what glory {is it}, if sinning and being buffeted ye shall bear {it}? but if, doing good and suffering, ye shall bear {it}, this is acceptable with God.

²¹ Kyekà, yà ntɔn ya waa bàlabel, ntɔn Klistɔ sye kàkɔɔm mwäänà ntɔn bɛ, nde kàlaswɛŋ mbaan ntɔn bɛ làläb nkääl ande.

²¹ For to this have ye been called; for Christ also has suffered for you, leaving you a model that ye should follow in his steps:

²² Nde kàkyer anki man'be, ndaa a an'kwaar sye yàtoo anki u mun ande,

²² who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth;

²³ nde kàfuur anki in'tswe, mpal bun'tö in'tswe. Wɛɛ mpal bun'pɛ ba mpay, nde kàŋän anki, wɛɛ ya yanswà nde kàpɛ akà mbuur afàtsul nsaŋ a balàbal lanswà.

²³ who, {when} reviled, reviled not again; {when} suffering, threatened not; but gave {himself} over into the hands of him who judges righteously;

²⁴ Nde kàsyen buur a man'be abi nde ŋakwo tii u kulunsi, ntɔn bi kàkü anà man'be abi ŋakwo, ntɔn bi ikäl anà mɔ̈ɔ̈ ntɔn balàbal, nde kàlakɔɔr u mbwo a iwà ande.

²⁴ who himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, in order that, being dead to sins, we may live to righteousness: by whose stripes ye have been healed.

²⁵ Ntɔn bɛ làdiimà mbwo asànaa in'kɔk, wɛɛ apanà, bɛ lan'furà akàun'kyɛɛŋ a in'kɔk anà un'leer a mɔ̈ɔ̈ abɛ.

²⁵ For ye were going astray as sheep, but have now returned to the shepherd and overseer of your souls.
