Provérbios 18

1 For [an object of] desire he who is separated doth seek, With all wisdom he intermeddleth.
1 Quem não gosta de estar na companhia dos outros só está interessado em si mesmo e rejeita todos os bons conselhos.
2 A fool delighteth not in understanding, But -- in uncovering his heart.
2 O tolo não se interessa em aprender, mas só em dar as suas opiniões.
3 With the coming of the wicked come also hath contempt, And with shame -- reproach.
3 Os maus são desprezados, e quem suja o seu próprio nome passa vergonha.
4 Deep waters [are] the words of a man`s mouth, The fountain of wisdom [is] a flowing brook.
4 A linguagem humana é profunda como o mar, e as palavras dos sábios são como os rios que nunca secam.
5 Acceptance of the face of the wicked [is] not good, To turn aside the righteous in judgment.
5 Não é certo dar razão ao culpado, deixando de fazer justiça ao inocente.
6 The lips of a fool enter into strife, And his mouth for stripes calleth.
6 Quando o tolo começa uma discussão, o que ele está pedindo é uma surra.
7 The mouth of a fool [is] ruin to him, And his lips [are] the snare of his soul.
7 Quando o tolo fala, ele causa a sua desgraça, pois acaba caindo na armadilha das suas próprias palavras.
8 The words of a tale-bearer [are] as self-inflicted wounds, And they have gone down [to] the inner parts of the heart.
8 Os mexericos são tão deliciosos! Como gostamos de saboreá-los!
9 He also that is remiss in his work, A brother he [is] to a destroyer.
9 O trabalhador relaxado é companheiro daquele que desperdiça.
10 A tower of strength [is] the name of Jehovah, Into it the righteous runneth, and is set on high.
10 O nome do Senhor é como uma torre forte para onde as pessoas direitas vão e ficam em segurança.
11 The wealth of the rich [is] the city of his strength, And as a wall set on high in his own imagination.
11 O rico pensa que a sua riqueza o protege como as muralhas altas e fortes em volta de uma cidade.
12 Before destruction the heart of man is high, And before honour [is] humility.
12 A pessoa orgulhosa está a caminho da desgraça, mas a humilde é respeitada.
13 Whoso is answering a matter before he heareth, Folly it is to him and shame.
13 Quem responde antes de ouvir mostra que é tolo e passa vergonha.
14 The spirit of a man sustaineth his sickness, And a smitten spirit who doth bear?
14 A vontade de viver mantém a vida de um doente, mas, se ele desanima, não existe mais esperança.
15 The heart of the intelligent getteth knowledge, And the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
15 A pessoa sábia está sempre ansiosa e pronta para aprender.
16 The gift of a man maketh room for him, And before the great it leadeth him.
16 Você quer falar com alguém importante? Leve um presente, e será fácil.
17 Righteous [is] the first in his own cause, His neighbour cometh and hath searched him.
17 Aquele que é o primeiro a fazer a sua defesa parece ter razão, mas só até que a outra pessoa comece a lhe fazer perguntas.
18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, And between the mighty it separateth.
18 Quando os poderosos se enfrentam no tribunal, tirar a sorte com os dados sagrados pode resolver a questão.
19 A brother transgressed against is as a strong city, And contentions as the bar of a palace.
19 É mais difícil ganhar de novo a amizade de um amigo ofendido do que conquistar uma fortaleza; as discussões estragam as amizades.
20 From the fruit of a man`s mouth is his belly satisfied, [From the] increase of his lips he is satisfied.
20 Você terá de aguentar as consequências de tudo o que disser.
21 Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue, And those loving it eat its fruit.
21 O que você diz pode salvar ou destruir uma vida; portanto, use bem as suas palavras e você será recompensado.
22 [Whoso] hath found a wife hath found good, And bringeth out good-will from Jehovah.
22 Quem acha uma esposa encontra a felicidade: recebeu uma bênção de Deus, o Senhor .
23 [With] supplications doth the poor speak, And the rich answereth fierce things.
23 O pobre pede licença para falar, mas o rico responde com grosseria.
24 A man with friends [is] to show himself friendly, And there is a lover adhering more than a brother!
24 Algumas amizades não duram nada, mas um verdadeiro amigo é mais chegado que um irmão.
