1 And Helyu pronounside, and spak also these thingis,
1 Eliú disse mais:
2 Wise men, here ye my wordis, and lerned men, herkne ye me; for the eere preueth wordis,
2 “Vocês que são sábios e instruídos, escutem o que vou dizer.
3 and the throte demeth metis bi taast.
3 Assim como os ouvidos julgam o valor das palavras, e o paladar prova os alimentos,
4 Chese we doom to vs; and se we among vs, what is the betere.
4 assim nós agora vamos examinar o caso e resolvê-lo do jeito que nos parecer melhor.
5 For Job seide, Y am iust, and God hath distried my doom.
5 “Jó está dizendo que é inocente e que Deus não quer lhe fazer justiça.
6 For whi lesynge is in demynge me, and myn arowe is violent with out ony synne.
6 E pergunta: ‘Como é que eu poderia mentir, dizendo que estou errado? Sofro de uma doença que não tem cura, embora não tenha cometido nenhum pecado.’
7 Who is a man, as Joob is, that drynkith scornyng as watir?
7 “Neste mundo não há ninguém como Jó, para quem é tão fácil zombar de Deus como beber um copo de água.
8 that goith with men worchynge wickidnesse, and goith with vnfeithful men?
8 Ele anda com homens maus e se ajunta com gente que não presta.
9 For he seide, A man schal not plese God, yhe, thouy he renneth with God.
9 E diz assim: ‘Não adianta nada procurar agradar a Deus.’
10 Therfor ye men hertid, `that is, vndurstonde, here ye me; vnpite, `ethir cruelte, be fer fro God, and wickidnesse fro Almyyti God.
10 “Agora, vocês que têm juízo, me escutem. Será que Deus faria alguma coisa errada? Será que o Todo-Poderoso cometeria uma injustiça?
11 For he schal yelde the werk of man to hym; and bi the weies of ech man he schal restore to hym.
11 Ele nos paga de acordo com o que fazemos e dá a cada um o que merece.
12 For verili God schal not condempne with out cause; nether Almyyti God schal distrie doom.
12 Na verdade, o Deus Todo-Poderoso não faz o mal e não é injusto com ninguém.
13 What othere man hath he ordeyned on the lond? ether whom hath he set on the world, which he made?
13 Quem entregou o poder a Deus? Quem o fez governador do
14 If God dressith his herte to hym, he schal drawe to hym silf his spirit and blast.
14 Se Deus quisesse, poderia fazer voltar para si o fôlego, a respiração da gente;
15 Ech fleisch schal faile togidere; `and a man schal turne ayen in to aisch.
15 então todas as pessoas morreriam juntas, no mesmo instante, e voltariam de novo para o pó.
16 Therfor if thou hast vndurstondyng, here thou that that is seid, and herkne the vois of my speche.
16 “Agora, Jó, se você é sábio, escute e preste atenção no que vou dizer.
17 Whether he that loueth not doom may be maad hool? and hou condempnest thou so myche him, that is iust?
17 Se Deus odiasse a justiça, não poderia governar o mundo. Será que você quer condenar aquele que é justo e poderoso?
18 Which seith to the kyng, Thou art apostata; which clepith the duykis vnpitouse, `ethir vnfeithful.
18 Deus condena os reis e as autoridades quando são maus, quando não prestam.
19 `Which takith not the persoones of princes, nether knew a tyraunt, whanne he stryuede ayens a pore man; for alle men ben the werk of hise hondis.
19 Ele não mostra preferência pelas pessoas que estão no poder, nem favorece os ricos em prejuízo dos pobres, pois todos foram criados por ele.
20 Thei schulen die sudeynli, and at mydnyyt puplis schulen be troblid, `ethir schulen be bowid, as othere bookis han; and schulen passe, and schulen take `awei `a violent man with out hond.
20 A morte pode vir de repente, no meio da noite. A pessoa tem um ataque e morre. Deus não precisa de ajuda para matar os poderosos.
21 For the iyen of God ben on the weies of men, and biholdith alle goyngis of hem.
21 Pois ele sabe tudo o que fazemos e vê todos os passos que damos.
22 No derknessis ben, and no schadewe of deeth is, that thei, that worchen wickidnesse, be hid there;
22 Não existe nenhum lugar, por mais escuro que seja, onde um pecador possa se esconder de Deus.
23 for it is `no more in the power of man, that he come to God in to doom.
23 Deus não precisa marcar um dia para que uma pessoa se apresente a fim de ser julgada por ele.
24 God schal al to-breke many men and vnnoumbrable; and schal make othere men to stonde for hem.
24 Ele não necessita de examinar a vida dos poderosos para acabar com eles e dar a outros o seu lugar.
25 For he knowith the werkis of hem; therfor he schal brynge yn niyt, and thei schulen be al to-brokun.
25 Pois Deus conhece o que eles fazem; de noite ele os derruba e esmaga.
26 He smoot hem, as vnpitouse men, in the place of seinge men.
26 Em público, na frente de todos, Deus os castiga como se fossem criminosos
27 Whiche yeden awei fro hym bi `castyng afore, and nolden vndurstonde alle hise weies.
27 porque eles se afastaram dele e não quiseram obedecer a nenhum dos seus mandamentos.
28 That thei schulden make the cry of a nedi man to come to hym, and that he schulde here the vois of pore men.
28 Eles fizeram com que os gritos dos pobres e explorados subissem até Deus, e ele os escutou.
29 For whanne he grauntith pees, who is that condempneth? Sithen he hidith his cheer, who is that seeth hym? And on folkis and on alle men `he hath power `to do siche thingis.
29 “Mas, se Deus se calar, ninguém poderá condená-lo. Se ele esconder o rosto, as pessoas e as nações ficarão sem defesa
30 Which makith `a man ypocrite to regne, for the synnes of the puple.
30 e nada poderão fazer para evitar que homens maus as governem e explorem.
31 Therfor for Y haue spoke to God, also Y schal not forbede thee.
31 “Jó, será que você já reconheceu diante de Deus que você sofreu por causa dos seus pecados e que prometeu que não vai pecar mais?
32 If Y erride, teche thou me; if Y spak wickidnesse, Y schal no more adde.
32 Será que você pediu a Deus que lhe mostrasse as suas faltas e resolveu parar de praticar o mal?
33 Whether God axith that wickidnesse of thee, for it displeside thee? For thou hast bigunne to speke, and not Y; that if thou knowist ony thing betere, speke thou.
33 Se você não aceita o que Deus faz, como espera que ele faça o que você quer? Você é quem precisa responder, e não eu; diga-nos o que está pensando.
34 Men vndurstondynge, speke to me; and a wise man, here me.
34 “As pessoas sábias e sensatas que me estão escutando certamente dirão assim:
35 Forsothe Joob spak folili, and hise wordis sownen not techyng.
35 ‘Jó não sabe o que está falando; o que ele diz não faz sentido.
36 My fadir, be Joob preuede `til to the ende; ceesse thou not fro the man of wickidnesse,
36 É só examinar bem as suas palavras, e a gente vê que ele responde como um perverso.
37 `that addith blasfemye ouer hise synnes. Be he constreyned among vs in the meene tyme; and thanne bi hise wordis stire he God to the doom.
37 Jó é pecador, um pecador rebelde. Na nossa presença, zomba de Deus e não para de falar contra ele.’ ”
