1 Also Helyu addide, and spak these thingis,
1 Eliú continuou a falar. Ele disse:
2 Suffre thou me a litil, and Y schal schewe to thee; for yit Y haue that, that Y schal speke for God.
2 “Jó, tenha um pouco mais de paciência, pois ainda vou lhe mostrar que tenho outras coisas a dizer a favor de Deus.
3 Y schal reherse my kunnyng fro the bigynnyng; and Y schal preue my worchere iust.
3 Usarei os meus profundos conhecimentos para mostrar que Deus, o meu Criador, é justo.
4 For verili my wordis ben with out leesyng, and perfit kunnyng schal be preued to thee.
4 Tudo o que vou dizer é verdade; quem está falando com você é realmente um sábio.
5 God castith not awei myyti men, sithen he is myyti;
5 “Como Deus é poderoso! Ele não despreza ninguém. Deus sabe todas as coisas.
6 but he saueth not wickid men, and he yyueth dom to pore men.
6 Ele não deixa que os maus continuem vivendo e sempre trata os pobres com justiça.
7 He takith not awei hise iyen fro a iust man; and he settith kyngis in seete with out ende, and thei ben reisid there.
7 Deus protege os homens corretos, deixa que eles governem como reis e assim tenham uma alta posição para sempre.
8 And if thei ben in chaynes, and ben boundun with the roopis of pouert,
8 Mas, se alguns são presos com correntes ou são amarrados com as cordas dos sofrimentos,
9 he schal shewe to hem her werkis, and her grete trespassis; for thei weren violent, `ethir rauenours.
9 então Deus lhes mostra que isso é por causa do que fizeram, que é o castigo pelos seus pecados e pelo seu orgulho.
10 Also he schal opene her eere, that he chastise; and he schal speke, that thei turne ayen fro wickidnesse.

11 If thei heren, and kepen, thei schulen fille her daies in good, and her yeris in glorie.
11 Se obedecem a Deus e o adoram, então têm paz e prosperidade até o fim da vida.
12 Sotheli if thei heren not, thei schulen passe bi swerd, and thei schulen be wastid in foli.

13 Feyneris and false men stiren the ire of God; and thei schulen not crye, whanne thei ben boundun.
13 “Aqueles que têm um coração perverso guardam raiva e, mesmo quando são castigados, não clamam pedindo socorro.
14 The soule of hem schal die in tempest; and the lijf of hem among `men of wymmens condiciouns.
14 Desonram o seu corpo entre si e morrem em plena mocidade.
15 He schal delyuere a pore man fro his angwisch; and he schal opene `the eere of hym in tribulacioun.
15 Mas Deus nos ensina por meio do sofrimento e usa a aflição para abrir os nossos olhos.
16 Therfor he schal saue thee fro the streit mouth of the broddeste tribulacioun, and not hauynge a foundement vndur it; sotheli the rest of thi table schal be ful of fatnesse.
16 “Jó, Deus o livrou dos perigos e o deixou viver em segurança. À sua mesa sempre se comeu do bom e do melhor.
17 Thi cause is demed as the cause of a wickid man; forsothe thou schalt resseyue thi cause and doom.
17 Mas você foi julgado e condenado e agora está recebendo o castigo que merece.
18 Therfor ire ouercome thee not, that thou oppresse ony man; and the multitude of yiftis bowe thee not.
18 Cuidado, não aceite dinheiro para torcer a justiça, não deixe que as muitas riquezas o seduzam.
19 Putte doun thi greetnesse with out tribulacioun, and putte doun alle stronge men bi strengthe.
19 Não adianta nada gritar pedindo socorro; todo o seu poder não tem nenhum valor agora.
20 Dilaie thou not nyyt, that puplis stie for hem.
20 Não fique desejando que chegue a noite em que as nações serão destruídas.
21 Be thou war, that thou bowe not to wickidnesse; for thou hast bigunne to sue this wickidnesse aftir wretchidnesse.
21 Você está sofrendo por causa da sua maldade; cuidado, não se volte para ela!
22 Lo! God is hiy in his strengthe, and noon is lijk hym among the yyueris of lawe.
22 “Como é grande o poder de Deus! Quem é capaz de governar tão bem como ele?
23 Who mai seke out the weies of God? ethir who dar seie to hym, Thou hast wrouyt wickidnesse?
23 Ninguém pode dar ordens a Deus, nem acusá-lo de praticar o mal.
24 Haue thou mynde, that thou knowist not his werk, of whom men sungun.
24 O mundo inteiro o louva pelo que ele faz, e você também não esqueça de louvá-lo.
25 Alle men seen God; ech man biholdith afer.
25 Mesmo de longe todos nós vemos e admiramos o que Deus está fazendo.
26 Lo! God is greet, ouercomynge oure kunnyng; the noumbre of hise yeeris is with out noumbre.
26 Ele é grande demais para que o possamos conhecer; nós não podemos calcular quantos anos já viveu.
27 Which takith awei the dropis of reyn; and schedith out reynes at the licnesse of floodyatis,
27 “Deus faz com que a água da terra suba para um depósito e depois a transforma em gotas de chuva.
28 whiche comen doun of the cloudis, that hilen alle thingis aboue.
28 As nuvens derramam a água, que cai em aguaceiros sobre a terra.
29 If he wole stretche forthe cloudis as his tente,
29 Quem entende o movimento das nuvens ou o barulho dos trovões no céu, onde Deus mora?
30 and leite with his liyt fro aboue, he schal hile, yhe,
30 Deus espalha relâmpagos em volta de si, mas o fundo do mar continua escuro.
31 the herris of the see. For bi these thingis he demeth puplis, and yyueth mete to many deedli men.
31 É assim que Deus alimenta os povos e lhes dá comida à vontade.
32 In hondis he hidith liyt; and comaundith it, that it come eft.
32 Ele pega o raio com as mãos e manda que atinja o alvo.
33 He tellith of it to his freend, that it is his possessioun; and that he may stie to it.
33 O gado sente que a tempestade está perto, e o trovão avisa que ela vem aí.
