¹ After the Sabbath, in the early dawn of the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala and the other Mary came to see the sepulchre.

¹ Depois do sábado, quando amanhecia o primeiro dia da semana, Maria Madalena e a outra Maria foram ver o túmulo.

² But to their amazement there had been a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord had descended from Heaven, and had come and rolled back the stone, and was sitting upon it.

² E eis que houve um violento tremor de terra: um anjo do Senhor desceu do céu, rolou a pedra e sentou-se sobre ela.

³ His appearance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow.

³ Resplandecia como relâmpago e suas vestes eram brancas como a neve.

⁴ For fear of him the guards trembled violently, and became like dead men.

⁴ Vendo isto, os guardas pensaram que morreriam de pavor.

⁵ But the angel said to the women, »As for you, dismiss your fears. I know that it is Jesus that you are looking for–the crucified One.

⁵ Mas o anjo disse às mulheres: Não temais! Sei que procurais Jesus, que foi crucificado.

⁶ He is not here: He has come back to life, as He foretold. Come and see the place where He lay.

⁶ Não está aqui: ressuscitou como disse. Vinde e vede o lugar em que ele repousou.

⁷ And go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead and is going before you into Galilee: there you shall see Him. Remember, I have told you.«

⁷ Ide depressa e dizei aos discípulos que ele ressuscitou dos mortos. Ele vos precede na Galiléia. Lá o haveis de rever, eu vo-lo disse.

⁸ They quickly left the tomb and ran, still terrified but full of unspeakable joy, to carry the news to His disciples.

⁸ Elas se afastaram prontamente do túmulo com certo receio, mas ao mesmo tempo com alegria, e correram a dar a boa nova aos discípulos.

⁹ And then suddenly they saw Jesus coming to meet them. »Peace be to you,« He said. And they came and clasped His feet, bowing to the ground before Him.

⁹ Nesse momento, Jesus apresentou-se diante delas e disse-lhes: Salve! Aproximaram-se elas e, prostradas diante dele, beijaram-lhe os pés.

¹⁰ Then He said, »Dismiss all fear! Go and take word to my brethren to go into Galilee, and there they shall see me.«

¹⁰ Disse-lhes Jesus: Não temais! Ide dizer aos meus irmãos que se dirijam à Galiléia, pois é lá que eles me verão.

¹¹ While they went on this errand, some of the guards came into the city and reported to the High Priests every detail of what had happened.

¹¹ Enquanto elas voltavam, alguns homens da guarda já estavam na cidade para anunciar o acontecimento aos príncipes dos sacerdotes.

¹² So the latter held a conference with the Elders, and after consultation with them they heavily bribed the soldiers,

¹² Reuniram-se estes em conselho com os anciãos. Deram aos soldados uma importante soma de dinheiro, ordenando-lhes:

¹³ telling them to say, »His disciples came during the night and stole his body while we were asleep.«

¹³ Vós direis que seus discípulos vieram retirá-lo à noite, enquanto dormíeis.

¹⁴ »And if this,« they added, »is reported to the Governor, we will satisfy him and screen you from punishment.«

¹⁴ Se o governador vier a sabê-lo, nós o acalmaremos e vos tiraremos de dificuldades.

¹⁵ So they took the money and did as they were instructed; and this story was noised about among the Jews, and is current to this day.

¹⁵ Os soldados receberam o dinheiro e seguiram suas instruções. E esta versão é ainda hoje espalhada entre os judeus.

¹⁶ As for the eleven disciples, they proceeded into Galilee, to the hill where Jesus had arranged to meet them.

¹⁶ Os onze discípulos foram para a Galiléia, para a montanha que Jesus lhes tinha designado.

¹⁷ There they saw Him and prostrated themselves before Him. Yet some doubted.

¹⁷ Quando o viram, adoraram-no; entretanto, alguns hesitavam ainda.

¹⁸ Jesus however came near and said to them, »All power in Heaven and over the earth has been given to me.

¹⁸ Mas Jesus, aproximando-se, lhes disse: Toda autoridade me foi dada no céu e na terra.

¹⁹ Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations; baptize them into the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit;

¹⁹ Ide, pois, e ensinai a todas as nações; batizai-as em nome do Pai, do Filho e do Espírito Santo.

²⁰ and teach them to obey every command which I have given you. And remember, I am with you always, day by day, until the Close of the Age.«

²⁰ Ensinai-as a observar tudo o que vos prescrevi. Eis que estou convosco todos os dias, até o fim do mundo.
