1 »For the Kingdom of the Heavens is like an employer who went out early in the morning to hire men to work in his vineyard,«
1 Porque o reino do céu é semelhante a um homem que é um chefe de família, que saiu de manhã cedo para contratar trabalhadores para a sua vinha.
2 and having made an agreement with them for a shilling a day, sent them into his vineyard.
2 E, tendo acordado com os trabalhadores um denário por dia, mandou-os para a sua vinha.
3 About nine o'clock he went out and saw others loitering in the market-place.
3 E ele saindo perto da hora terceira, viu outros que estavam ociosos no mercado,
4 To these also he said, »`You also, go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.'
4 e disse-lhes: Ide vós também para a vinha, e dar-vos-ei o que for justo. E eles foram pelo caminho.
5 »So they went. Again about twelve, and about three o'clock, he went out and did the same.«
5 Ele saindo outra vez, cerca da hora sexta e da nona, fez da mesma forma.
6 And going out about five o'clock he found others loitering, and he asked them, »`Why have you been standing here all day long, doing nothing?'
6 E, ele saindo cerca da hora undécima, encontrou outros que estavam ociosos, e disse-lhes: Por que estais ociosos todo o dia?
7 `Because no one has hired us,' they replied. »`You also, go into the vineyard,' he said.
7 Eles disseram-lhe: Porque nenhum homem nos contratou. Ele disse-lhes: Ide vós também para a vinha, e tudo quanto for justo, vós recebereis.
8 When evening came, the master said to his steward, »`Call the men and pay them their wages. Begin with the last set and finish with the first.'
8 Assim, vindo a tarde, o senhor da vinha disse ao seu mordomo: Chama os trabalhadores, e paga-lhes o salário, começando pelos últimos até aos primeiros.
9 »When those came who had begun at five o'clock, they received a shilling apiece;«
9 E, vindo os que foram cerca da hora undécima, receberam cada homem um denário.
10 and when the first came, they expected to get more, but they also each got the shilling.
10 Vindo, então, os primeiros, eles pensaram que haviam de receber mais; mas do mesmo modo recebeu cada homem um denário.
11 So when they had received it, they grumbled against the employer, saying,
11 E, recebendo-o, murmuravam contra o dono da casa,
12 »`These who came last have done only one hour's work, and you have put them on a level with us who have worked the whole day and have borne the scorching heat.'«
12 dizendo: Estes últimos trabalharam somente uma hora, e os fizestes iguais a nós, que suportamos o fardo e o calor do dia.
13 »`My friend,' he answered to one of them, `I am doing you no injustice. Did you not agree with me for a shilling?«
13 Mas ele, respondendo, disse a um deles: Amigo, eu não te faço injustiça; tu não combinastes comigo um denário?
14 Take your money and go. I choose to give this last comer just as much as I give you.
14 Toma o que é teu, e vai-te pelo caminho; eu quero dar a este último tanto como a ti.
15 Have I not a right to do what I choose with my own property? Or are you envious because I am generous?'
15 Não me é lícito fazer o que eu quero do que é meu? Ou é mau o teu olho porque eu sou bom?
16 »So the last shall be first, and the first last.«
16 Assim os últimos serão os primeiros, e os primeiros os últimos; porque muitos são chamados, mas poucos os escolhidos.
17 Jesus was now going up to Jerusalem, and He took the twelve disciples aside by themselves, and on the way He said to them,
17 E, subindo Jesus para Jerusalém, tomou à parte os seus doze discípulos no caminho, e disse-lhes:
18 »We are going up to Jerusalem, and there the Son of Man will be betrayed to the High Priests and Scribes. They will condemn Him to death,«
18 Eis que nós subimos para Jerusalém, e o Filho do homem será traído aos principais sacerdotes e aos escribas, e eles o condenarão à morte,
19 and hand Him over to the Gentiles to be made sport of and scourged and crucified; and on the third day He will be raised to life.«
19 e o entregarão aos gentios para que dele zombem, e o açoitem e crucifiquem, e ao terceiro dia ele ressuscitará.
20 Then the mother of the sons of Zabdi came to Him with her sons, and knelt before Him to make a request of Him.
20 Então se aproximou dele a mãe dos filhos de Zebedeu, com seus filhos, adorando-o, e desejando uma certa coisa.
21 »What is it you desire?« He asked. »Command,« she replied, »that these my two sons may sit one at your right hand and one at your left in your Kingdom.«
21 E ele disse para ela: O que tu queres? Ela disse: Concede que estes meus dois filhos se assentem, um à tua direita e outro à tua esquerda, no teu reino.
22 »None of you know what you are asking for,« said Jesus; »can you drink out of the cup from which I am about to drink?«»We can,« they replied.
22 Mas Jesus respondendo disse: Não sabeis o que pedis. Podeis vós beber o cálice que eu hei de beber, e ser batizados com o batismo com que eu sou batizado? Dizem-lhe eles: Nós podemos.
23 »You shall drink out of my cup,« He said, »but a seat at my right hand or at my left it is not for me to allot, but it belongs to those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.«
23 E diz-lhes ele: Na verdade bebereis o meu cálice e sereis batizados com o batismo com que eu sou batizado, mas o assentar-se à minha direita ou à minha esquerda não me pertence dá-lo, mas o será dado àqueles para quem meu Pai o tem preparado.
24 The other ten heard of this, and their indignation was aroused against the two brothers.
24 E, quando os dez ouviram isso, indignaram-se contra os dois irmãos.
25 But Jesus called them to Him, and said, »You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them.
25 Mas Jesus chamando-os, disse: Sabeis que os príncipes dos gentios exercem domínio sobre eles, e os seus grandes exercem autoridade sobre eles.
26 Not so shall it be among you; but whoever desires to be great among you shall be your servant,
26 Mas não será assim entre vós; mas quem dentre vós deseja ser grande, seja o vosso servidor;
27 and whoever desires to be first among you shall be your bondservant;
27 e, quem deseja ser o primeiro, seja o vosso servo.
28 just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as the redemption-price for many.«
28 Assim como o Filho do homem não veio para ser servido, mas para servir, e para dar a sua vida em resgate de muitos.
29 As they were leaving Jericho, an immense crowd following Him,
29 E, partindo eles de Jericó, uma grande multidão o seguia.
30 two blind men sitting by the roadside heard that it was Jesus who was passing by, and cried aloud, »Sir, Son of David, pity us.«
30 E eis que dois homens cegos, assentados junto do caminho, ouvindo que Jesus passava, clamaram, dizendo: Tem misericórdia de nós, ó Senhor, Filho de Davi!
31 The people angrily tried to silence them, but they cried all the louder. »O Sir, Son of David, pity us,« they said.
31 E a multidão os repreendia, para que se calassem; mas eles gritavam ainda mais, dizendo: Tem misericórdia de nós, ó Senhor, Filho de Davi.
32 So Jesus stood still and called to them. »What shall I do for you?« He asked.
32 E Jesus, parando, chamou-os, e disse: O que quereis que eu vos faça?
33 »Sir, let our eyes be opened,« they replied.
33 Disseram-lhe eles: Senhor, que os nossos olhos possam ser abertos.
34 Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes, and immediately they regained their sight and followed Him.
34 Então Jesus teve compaixão deles, e tocou seus olhos; e imediatamente seus olhos receberam visão, e eles o seguiram.
