¹ On the first day of the week, very early, while it was still dark, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from it.

¹ E no primeiro dia da semana, Maria Madalena foi ao sepulcro de madrugada, sendo ainda escuro, e viu a pedra tirada do sepulcro.

² So she ran, as fast as she could, to find Simon Peter and the other disciple –the one who was dear to Jesus– and to tell them, »They have taken the Master out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have put Him.«

² Correu, pois, e foi a Simão Pedro, e ao outro discípulo, a quem Jesus amava, e disse-lhes: Levaram o Senhor do sepulcro, e não sabemos onde o puseram.

³ Peter and the other disciple started at once to go to the tomb, both of them running,

³ Então Pedro saiu com o outro discípulo, e foram ao sepulcro.

⁴ but the other disciple ran faster than Peter and reached it before he did.

⁴ E os dois corriam juntos, mas o outro discípulo correu mais apressadamente do que Pedro, e chegou primeiro ao sepulcro.

⁵ Stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths lying there on the ground, but he did not go in.

⁵ E, abaixando-se, viu no chão os lençóis; todavia não entrou.

⁶ Simon Peter, however, also came, following him, and entered the tomb. There on the ground he saw the cloths;

⁶ Chegou, pois, Simão Pedro, que o seguia, e entrou no sepulcro, e viu no chão os lençóis,

⁷ and the towel, which had been placed over the face of Jesus, not lying with the cloths, but folded up and put by itself.

⁷ E que o lenço, que tinha estado sobre a sua cabeça, não estava com os lençóis, mas enrolado num lugar à parte.

⁸ Then the other disciple, who had been the first to come to the tomb, also went in and saw and was convinced.

⁸ Então entrou também o outro discípulo, que chegara primeiro ao sepulcro, e viu, e creu.

⁹ For until now they had not understood the inspired teaching, that He must rise again from among the dead.

⁹ Porque ainda não sabiam a Escritura, que era necessário que ressuscitasse dentre os mortos.

¹⁰ Then they went away and returned home.

¹⁰ Tornaram, pois, os discípulos para casa.

¹¹ Meanwhile Mary remained standing near the tomb, weeping aloud. She did not enter the tomb, but as she wept she stooped and looked in,

¹¹ E Maria estava chorando fora, junto ao sepulcro. Estando ela, pois, chorando, abaixou-se para o sepulcro.

¹² and saw two angels clothed in white raiment, sitting one at the head and one at the feet where the body of Jesus had been.

¹² E viu dois anjos vestidos de branco, assentados onde jazera o corpo de Jesus, um à cabeceira e outro aos pés.

¹³ They spoke to her. »Why are you weeping?« they asked. »Because,« she replied, »they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have put him.«

¹³ E disseram-lhe eles: Mulher, por que choras? Ela lhes disse: Porque levaram o meu Senhor, e não sei onde o puseram.

¹⁴ While she was speaking, she turned round and saw Jesus standing there, but did not recognize Him.

¹⁴ E, tendo dito isto, voltou-se para trás, e viu Jesus em pé, mas não sabia que era Jesus.

¹⁵ »Why are you weeping?« He asked; »who are you looking for?« She, supposing that He was the gardener, replied, »Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him and I will remove him.«

¹⁵ Disse-lhe Jesus: Mulher, por que choras? Quem buscas? Ela, cuidando que era o hortelão, disse-lhe: Senhor, se tu o levaste, dize-me onde o puseste, e eu o levarei.

¹⁶ »Mary!« said Jesus. She turned to Him. »Rabboni!« she cried in Hebrew: the word means `Teacher!'

¹⁶ Disse-lhe Jesus: Maria! Ela, voltando-se, disse-lhe: Raboni, que quer dizer: Mestre.

¹⁷ »Do not cling to me,« said Jesus, »for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But take this message to my brethren: `I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'«

¹⁷ Disse-lhe Jesus: Não me detenhas, porque ainda não subi para meu Pai, mas vai para meus irmãos, e dize-lhes que eu subo para meu Pai e vosso Pai, meu Deus e vosso Deus.

¹⁸ Mary of Magdala came and brought word to the disciples. »I have seen the Master,« she said. And she told them that He had said these things to her.

¹⁸ Maria Madalena foi e anunciou aos discípulos que vira o Senhor, e que ele lhe dissera isto.

¹⁹ On that same first day of the week, when it was evening and, for fear of the Jews, the doors of the house where the disciples were, were locked, Jesus came and stood in their midst, and said to them, »Peace be to you!«

¹⁹ Chegada, pois, a tarde daquele dia, o primeiro da semana, e cerradas as portas onde os discípulos, com medo dos judeus, se tinham ajuntado, chegou Jesus, e pôs-se no meio, e disse-lhes: Paz seja convosco.

²⁰ Having said this He showed them His hands and also His side; and the disciples were filled with joy at seeing the Master.

²⁰ E, dizendo isto, mostrou-lhes as suas mãos e o lado. De sorte que os discípulos se alegraram, vendo o Senhor.

²¹ A second time, therefore, He said to them, »Peace be to you! As the Father sent me, I also now send you.«

²¹ Disse-lhes, pois, Jesus outra vez: Paz seja convosco; assim como o Pai me enviou, também eu vos envio a vós.

²² Having said this He breathed upon them and said, »Receive the Holy Spirit.

²² E, havendo dito isto, assoprou sobre eles e disse-lhes: Recebei o Espírito Santo.

²³ If you remit the sins of any persons, they remain remitted to them. If you bind fast the sins of any, they remain bound.«

²³ «queles a quem perdoardes os pecados lhes são perdoados; e àqueles a quem os retiverdes lhes são retidos.

²⁴ Thomas, one of the twelve –surnamed `the Twin'– was not among them when Jesus came.

²⁴ Ora, Tomé, um dos doze, chamado Dídimo, não estava com eles quando veio Jesus.

²⁵ So the rest of the disciples told him, »We have seen the Master!« His reply was, »Unless I see in his hands the wound made by the nails and put my finger into the wound, and put my hand into his side, I will never believe it.«

²⁵ Disseram-lhe, pois, os outros discípulos: Vimos o Senhor. Mas ele disse-lhes: Se eu não vir o sinal dos cravos em suas mãos, e não puser o meu dedo no lugar dos cravos, e não puser a minha mão no seu lado, de maneira nenhuma o crerei.

²⁶ A week later the disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them, when Jesus came –though the doors were locked– and stood in their midst, and said, »Peace be to you.«

²⁶ E oito dias depois estavam outra vez os seus discípulos dentro, e com eles Tomé. Chegou Jesus, estando as portas fechadas, e apresentou-se no meio, e disse: Paz seja convosco.

²⁷ Then He said to Thomas, »Bring your finger here and feel my hands; bring you hand and put it into my side; and do not be ready to disbelieve but to believe.«

²⁷ Depois disse a Tomé: Põe aqui o teu dedo, e vê as minhas mãos; e chega a tua mão, e põe-na no meu lado; e não sejas incrédulo, mas crente.

²⁸ »My Lord and my God!« replied Thomas.

²⁸ E Tomé respondeu, e disse-lhe: Senhor meu, e Deus meu!

²⁹ »Because you have seen me,« replied Jesus, »you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.«

²⁹ Disse-lhe Jesus: Porque me viste, Tomé, creste; bem-aventurados os que não viram e creram.

³⁰ There were also a great number of other signs which Jesus performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not recorded in this book.

³⁰ Jesus, pois, operou também em presença de seus discípulos muitos outros sinais, que não estão escritos neste livro.

³¹ But these have been recorded in order that you may believe that He is the Christ, the Son of God, and that, through believing, you may have Life through His name.

³¹ Estes, porém, foram escritos para que creiais que Jesus é o Cristo, o Filho de Deus, e para que, crendo, tenhais vida em seu nome.
