1 Christ having made us gloriously free–stand fast and do not again be hampered with the yoke of slavery.
1 É para que sejamos homens livres que Cristo nos libertou. Ficai, portanto, firmes e não vos submetais outra vez ao jugo da escravidão.
2 Remember that it is I Paul who tell you that if you receive circumcision Christ will avail you nothing.
2 Eis que eu, Paulo, vos declaro: se vos circuncidardes, de nada vos servirá Cristo.
3 I once more protest to every man who receives circumcision that he is under obligation to obey the whole Law of Moses.
3 E atesto novamente, a todo homem que se circuncidar: ele está obrigado a observar toda a lei.
4 Christ has become nothing to any of you who are seeking acceptance with God through the Law: you have fallen away from grace.
4 Já estais separados de Cristo, vós que procurais a justificação pela lei. Decaístes da graça.
5 We have not, for through the Spirit we wait with longing hope for an acceptance with God which is to come through faith.
5 Quanto a nós, é espiritualmente, da fé, que aguardamos a justiça esperada.
6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision is of any importance; but only faith working through love.
6 Estar circuncidado ou incircunciso de nada vale em Cristo Jesus, mas sim a fé que opera pela caridade.
7 You were running the race nobly! Who has interfered and caused you to swerve from the truth?
7 Corríeis bem. Quem, pois, vos cortou os passos para não obedecerdes à verdade?
8 No such teaching ever proceeded from Him who is calling you.
8 Esta sugestão não vem daquele que vos chama.
9 A little yeast corrupts the whole of the dough.
9 Um pouco de fermento leveda toda a massa.
10 For my part I have strong confidence in you in the Lord that you will adopt my view of the matter. But the man –be he who he may– who is troubling you, will have to bear the full weight of the judgement to be pronounced on him.
10 Tenho confiança no Senhor a vosso respeito, que de maneira alguma mudareis de sentir. Portanto, quem vos perturbar responderá por isto, seja quem for.
11 As for me, brethren, if I am still a preacher of circumcision, how is it that I am still suffering persecution? In that case the Cross has ceased to be a stumbling-block!
11 Se é verdade, irmãos, que ainda prego a circuncisão, por que, então, sou perseguido? Assim o escândalo da cruz teria cessado!
12 Would to God that those who are unsettling your faith would even mutilate themselves.
12 Oxalá acabem por mutilar-se os que vos inquietam!
13 You however, brethren, were called to freedom. Only do not turn your freedom into an excuse for giving way to your lower natures; but become bondservants to one another in a spirit of love.
13 Vós, irmãos, fostes chamados à liberdade. Não abuseis, porém, da liberdade como pretexto para prazeres carnais. Pelo contrário, fazei-vos servos uns dos outros pela caridade,
14 For the entire Law has been obeyed when you have kept the single precept, which says, »You are to love your fellow man equally with yourself.«
14 porque toda a lei se encerra num só preceito: Amarás o teu próximo como a ti mesmo {Lv 19,18}.
15 But if you are perpetually snarling and snapping at one another, beware lest you are destroyed by one another.
15 Mas, se vos mordeis e vos devorais, vede que não acabeis por vos destruirdes uns aos outros.
16 This then is what I mean. Let your lives be guided by the Spirit, and then you will certainly not indulge the cravings of your lower natures.
16 Digo, pois: deixai-vos conduzir pelo Espírito, e não satisfareis os apetites da carne.
17 For the cravings of the lower nature are opposed to those of the Spirit, and the cravings of the Spirit are opposed to those of the lower nature; because these are antagonistic to each other, so that you cannot do everything to which you are inclined.
17 Porque os desejos da carne se opõem aos do Espírito, e estes aos da carne; pois são contrários uns aos outros. É por isso que não fazeis o que quereríeis.
18 But if the Spirit is leading you, you are not subject to Law.
18 Se, porém, vos deixais guiar pelo Espírito, não estais sob a lei.
19 Now you know full well the doings of our lower natures. Fornication, impurity, indecency, idol-worship, sorcery;
19 Ora, as obras da carne são estas: fornicação, impureza, libertinagem,
20 enmity, strife, jealousy, outbursts of passion, intrigues, dissensions, factions, envyings;
20 idolatria, superstição, inimizades, brigas, ciúmes, ódio, ambição, discórdias, partidos,
21 hard drinking, riotous feasting, and the like. And as to these I forewarn you, as I have already forewarned you, that those who are guilty of such things will have no share in the Kingdom of God.
21 invejas, bebedeiras, orgias e outras coisas semelhantes. Dessas coisas vos previno, como já vos preveni: os que as praticarem não herdarão o Reino de Deus!
22 The Spirit, on the other hand, brings a harvest of love, joy, peace; patience towards others, kindness, benevolence;
22 Ao contrário, o fruto do Espírito é caridade, alegria, paz, paciência, afabilidade, bondade, fidelidade,
23 good faith, meekness, self-restraint.
23 brandura, temperança. Contra estas coisas não há lei.
24 Against such things as these there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their lower nature with its passions and appetites.
24 Pois os que são de Jesus Cristo crucificaram a carne, com as paixões e concupiscências.
25 If we are living by the Spirit's power, let our conduct also be governed by the Spirit's power.
25 Se vivemos pelo Espírito, andemos também de acordo com o Espírito.
26 Let us not become vain-glorious, challenging one another, envying one another.
26 Não sejamos ávidos da vanglória. Nada de provocações, nada de invejas entre nós.
