1 Christ having made us gloriously free–stand fast and do not again be hampered with the yoke of slavery.
1 Firmemo-nos, portanto, na liberdade com que Cristo nos libertou; não nos submetamos outra vez ao jugo da escravidão.
2 Remember that it is I Paul who tell you that if you receive circumcision Christ will avail you nothing.
2 Eis que eu, Paulo, vos declaro, que se vós vos circuncidardes, de nada vos servirá Cristo.
3 I once more protest to every man who receives circumcision that he is under obligation to obey the whole Law of Moses.
3 E testifico novamente, a todo homem que for circuncidado, ele está obrigado a observar toda a lei.
4 Christ has become nothing to any of you who are seeking acceptance with God through the Law: you have fallen away from grace.
4 Cristo torna-se sem efeito para vós que procurais a justificação pela lei; vós decaístes da graça.
5 We have not, for through the Spirit we wait with longing hope for an acceptance with God which is to come through faith.
5 Porque nós, pelo Espírito, aguardamos a esperança da justiça pela fé.
6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision is of any importance; but only faith working through love.
6 Porque, em Jesus Cristo, nem a circuncisão nem a incircuncisão valem alguma coisa, mas a fé que opera pelo amor.
7 You were running the race nobly! Who has interfered and caused you to swerve from the truth?
7 Corríeis bem; quem, pois, vos impediu para que não obedecêsseis à verdade?
8 No such teaching ever proceeded from Him who is calling you.
8 Esta persuasão não vem daquele que vos chama.
9 A little yeast corrupts the whole of the dough.
9 Um pouco de fermento leveda toda a massa.
10 For my part I have strong confidence in you in the Lord that you will adopt my view of the matter. But the man –be he who he may– who is troubling you, will have to bear the full weight of the judgement to be pronounced on him.
10 Tenho confiança em vós, por meio do Senhor, que de maneira alguma mudareis de opinião; mas aquele que vos perturbar será julgado por isto, seja quem for.
11 As for me, brethren, if I am still a preacher of circumcision, how is it that I am still suffering persecution? In that case the Cross has ceased to be a stumbling-block!
11 E eu, irmãos, se ainda prego a circuncisão, por que, então, ainda sofro perseguição? Assim, a ofensa da cruz teria cessado.
12 Would to God that those who are unsettling your faith would even mutilate themselves.
12 Bom seria que fossem cortados, aqueles que vos perturbam.
13 You however, brethren, were called to freedom. Only do not turn your freedom into an excuse for giving way to your lower natures; but become bondservants to one another in a spirit of love.
13 Porque vós, irmãos, fostes chamados à liberdade. Apenas não useis da liberdade para dar ocasião à carne, mas para servir uns aos outros em amor.
14 For the entire Law has been obeyed when you have kept the single precept, which says, »You are to love your fellow man equally with yourself.«
14 Porque toda a lei é cumprida em uma só palavra, nesta: Amarás ao teu próximo como a ti mesmo.
15 But if you are perpetually snarling and snapping at one another, beware lest you are destroyed by one another.
15 Mas se vos mordeis e vos devorais uns aos outros, vede que não acabeis por vos destruirdes uns aos outros.
16 This then is what I mean. Let your lives be guided by the Spirit, and then you will certainly not indulge the cravings of your lower natures.
16 Isto vos digo: Andeis no Espírito, e não satisfareis os desejos da carne.
17 For the cravings of the lower nature are opposed to those of the Spirit, and the cravings of the Spirit are opposed to those of the lower nature; because these are antagonistic to each other, so that you cannot do everything to which you are inclined.
17 Porque os desejos da carne se opõem aos do Espírito, e os do Espírito contra os da carne, pois opõem-se um ao outro, a fim de que não consigais fazer o que quereis.
18 But if the Spirit is leading you, you are not subject to Law.
18 Porém, se deixardes que o Espírito vos guie, já não estais sob a lei.
19 Now you know full well the doings of our lower natures. Fornication, impurity, indecency, idol-worship, sorcery;
19 Ora, as obras da carne são manifestas e aqui estão: Adultério, fornicação, impureza, lascívia,
20 enmity, strife, jealousy, outbursts of passion, intrigues, dissensions, factions, envyings;
20 idolatria, feitiçaria, ódio, discórdia, rivalidade, ira, porfia, rebeliões, heresias,
21 hard drinking, riotous feasting, and the like. And as to these I forewarn you, as I have already forewarned you, that those who are guilty of such things will have no share in the Kingdom of God.
21 invejas, homicídios, bebedeiras, orgias e outras coisas semelhantes. A respeito dessas coisas vos falo, como já vos falei outrora, que os que praticam tais coisas não hão de herdar o reino de Deus.
22 The Spirit, on the other hand, brings a harvest of love, joy, peace; patience towards others, kindness, benevolence;
22 Mas o fruto do Espírito é: Amor, alegria, paz, paciência, benignidade, bondade, fé,
23 good faith, meekness, self-restraint.
23 brandura, temperança; contra essas coisas não há lei.
24 Against such things as these there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their lower nature with its passions and appetites.
24 Pois aqueles que são de Cristo já crucificaram a carne com as paixões e concupiscências.
25 If we are living by the Spirit's power, let our conduct also be governed by the Spirit's power.
25 Se vivemos pelo Espírito, andemos também no Espírito.
26 Let us not become vain-glorious, challenging one another, envying one another.
26 Não sejamos ávidos da vanglória, provocando uns aos outros, invejando uns aos outros.
