1 Now when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John
1 Portanto, quando o Senhor soube que os fariseus tinham ouvido que Jesus fazia e batizava mais discípulos do que João,
2 (although Jesus himself did not baptize, but only his disciples),
2 (embora o próprio Jesus não tenha batizado, mas os seus discípulos),
3 he left Judea and departed again to Galilee.
3 ele deixou a Judeia, e partiu novamente para a Galileia.
4 Now he had to go through Samaria.
4 E era-lhe necessário passar por Samaria.
5 So he came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
5 Então ele chega a uma cidade de Samaria, que é chamada Sicar, perto das terras que Jacó deu a seu filho José.
6 Jacob's well was there, and Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour.
6 Ora, o poço de Jacó estava ali. Jesus, pois, cansado da sua viagem, assentou-se assim junto do poço, e era cerca da hora sexta.
7 There came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said to her, »Give me a drink.«
7 Então veio uma mulher de Samaria para tirar água. Disse-lhe Jesus: Dá-me de beber.
8 For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.
8 (Pois seus discípulos tinham ido à cidade para comprar alimento).
9 Then the woman of Samaria said to him, »How is it that you, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?« For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.
9 Então, disse-lhe a mulher samaritana: Como é que tu, sendo um judeu, pedes de beber a mim, que sou mulher de Samaria? Porque os judeus não se relacionam com os samaritanos.
10 Jesus answered her, »If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, Give me a drink, you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.«
10 Jesus respondeu e disse-lhe: Se tu conheceras o dom de Deus, e quem é o que te diz: Dá-me de beber, tu lhe pedirias, e ele te daria água viva.
11 The woman said to him, »Sir, you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water?
11 Disse-lhe a mulher: Senhor, tu não tens com que a tirar, e o poço é fundo; onde, pois, tens a água viva?
12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his cattle?«
12 És tu maior do que Jacó, o nosso pai, que nos deu o poço, do qual ele mesmo bebeu, e os seus filhos, e o seu gado?
13 Jesus answered her, »Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again,
13 Jesus respondeu e disse-lhe: Qualquer que beber desta água terá sede novamente;
14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. The water that I shall give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.«
14 mas aquele que beber da água que eu lhe der nunca terá sede, mas a água que eu lhe der, se fará nele uma fonte de água a jorrar para a vida eterna.
15 The woman said to him, »Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.«
15 Disse-lhe a mulher: Senhor, dá-me dessa água, para que eu não tenha sede e não venha aqui tirá-la.
16 Jesus said to her, »Go, call your husband, and come here.«
16 Disse-lhe Jesus: Vai, chama o teu marido e vem cá.
17 The woman answered, »I have no husband.« Jesus said to her, »You are right in saying, I have no husband;
17 A mulher respondeu e disse: Eu não tenho marido. Disse-lhe Jesus: Tu disseste bem: Eu não tenho marido;
18 for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this you have said truly.«
18 porque tu tiveste cinco maridos, e o que agora tens não é teu marido; isso disseste com verdade.
19 The woman said to him, »Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.
19 Disse-lhe a mulher: Senhor, Eu vejo que tu és um profeta.
20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.«
20 Nossos pais adoraram neste monte, e vós dizeis que é em Jerusalém o lugar onde o homem deve adorar.
21 Jesus said to her, »Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.
21 Disse-lhe Jesus: Mulher, crê-me, a hora vem, em que nem neste monte, nem em Jerusalém adorareis o Pai.
22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.
22 Vós adorais o que não conheceis, nós adoramos o que conhecemos, porque a salvação é dos judeus.
23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for such the Father seeks to worship him.
23 Mas a hora vem, e agora é, em que os verdadeiros adoradores adorarão o Pai em espírito e em verdade, porque o Pai procura a tais para adorá-lo.
24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.«
24 Deus é um Espírito, e os que o adoram devem adorá-lo em espírito e em verdade.
25 The woman said to him, »I know that Messiah is coming« (who is called Christ). »When he comes, he will tell us all things.«
25 A mulher disse-lhe: Eu sei que vem o Messias, que se chama o Cristo; quando ele vier, nos anunciará todas as coisas.
26 Jesus said to her, »I who speak to you am he.«
26 Jesus disse-lhe: Eu o sou, o que fala contigo.
27 Just then his disciples came. And they marveled that he was talking with a woman, but no one said, »What do you wish?« or, »Why are you talking with her?«
27 E nisto vieram os seus discípulos e maravilharam-se de que ele estivesse falando com a mulher; todavia, nenhum homem lhe disse: O que tu procuras? Ou: Por que tu falas com ela?
28 Then the woman left her water jar, and went away into the city, and said to the people,
28 A mulher então, deixou o seu cântaro, e foi no caminho da cidade, e disse aos homens:
29 »Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?«
29 Vinde, vede um homem que me disse todas as coisas que eu tenho feito; não é este o Cristo?
30 They went out of the city and came to him.
30 Então, eles saíram da cidade e foram até ele.
31 Meanwhile his disciples urged him, saying, »Rabbi, eat.«
31 Enquanto isso os seus discípulos lhe suplicavam, dizendo: Mestre, come.
32 But he said to them, »I have food to eat of which you do not know.«
32 Mas ele lhes disse: Eu tenho um alimento para comer, que vós não conheceis.
33 So the disciples said to one another, »Has any one brought him food?«
33 Portanto, os discípulos diziam uns aos outros: Acaso algum homem lhe trouxe algo de comer?
34 Jesus said to them, »My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to finish his work.
34 Jesus disse-lhes: O meu alimento é fazer a vontade daquele que me enviou, e completar a sua obra.
35 Do you not say, There are yet four months and then comes the harvest? Behold, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and look at the fields! They are already white for harvest.
35 Não dizeis vós: Ainda há quatro meses, e então virá a colheita? Eis que eu vos digo: Levantai os vossos olhos, e vede os campos, porque eles já estão brancos para a colheita.
36 And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together.
36 E o que ceifa recebe salário, e ajunta fruto para a vida eterna; para que o que semeia e o que ceifa possam juntamente se regozijar.
37 For here the saying is true, One sows and another reaps.
37 Porque nisto é verdadeiro o ditado: Um é o que semeia, e outro, o que ceifa.
38 I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.«
38 Eu vos enviei a ceifar onde vós não trabalhastes; outros homens trabalharam, e vós entrastes no seu trabalho.
39 Many of the Samaritans from that city believed in him because of the woman's testimony, »He told me all that I ever did.«
39 E muitos samaritanos daquela cidade creram nele, por causa da palavra da mulher, que testificou: Ele me disse tudo que eu tenho feito.
40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them; and he stayed there two days.
40 Assim então os samaritanos foram até ele, e pediram-lhe que ficasse com eles; e ele ficou ali dois dias.
41 And many more believed because of his word.
41 E muitos mais creram por causa da sua própria palavra;
42 They said to the woman, »We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man is indeed the Savior of the world.«
42 e diziam à mulher: Já não é pelo que disseste que nós cremos; porque nós mesmos o temos ouvido, e sabemos que este é verdadeiramente o Cristo, o Salvador do mundo.
43 After the two days he departed to Galilee.
43 Ora, após os dois dias, ele partiu de lá, e foi para a Galileia.
44 For Jesus himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.
44 Porque Jesus mesmo testificou que um profeta não tem honra na sua própria terra.
45 So when he came to Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him, having seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the feast, for they too had gone to the feast.
45 Então, quando ele chegou à Galileia, os galileus o receberam, porque viram todas as coisas que fizera em Jerusalém no dia da festa; porque também eles foram à festa.
46 So he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And at Capernaum there was an official whose son was sick.
46 Assim Jesus veio novamente a Caná da Galileia, onde ele da água fizera vinho. E havia ali um nobre, cujo filho estava enfermo em Cafarnaum.
47 When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and begged him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.
47 Ouvindo este que Jesus vinha da Judeia para a Galileia, foi até ele e pediu-lhe para descer e curar o seu filho, porque ele já estava à morte.
48 Jesus said to him, »Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will never believe.«
48 Então, Jesus lhe disse: Se não virdes sinais e maravilhas, não crereis.
49 The official said to him, »Sir, come down before my child dies.«
49 O nobre disse-lhe: Senhor, desce, antes que meu filho morra.
50 Jesus said to him, »Go; your son will live.« The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went his way.
50 Disse-lhe Jesus: Vai pelo teu caminho, o teu filho vive. E o homem creu na palavra que Jesus lhe disse, e ele foi em seu caminho.
51 As he was going down, his servants met him and told him that his son was living.
51 E, enquanto ele descia, saíram-lhe ao encontro os seus servos e lhe contaram dizendo: O teu filho vive.
52 So he inquired of them the hour when his son got better, and they said to him, »Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.«
52 Perguntou-lhes, pois, a que hora ele começara a melhorar; e disseram-lhe: Ontem à sétima hora a febre o deixou.
53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus had said to him, »Your son will live.« And he himself believed, and all his household.
53 Assim o pai reconheceu que foi na mesma hora em que Jesus lhe dissera: O teu filho vive; e creu ele, e toda a sua casa.
54 This was now the second sign that Jesus did when he had come from Judea to Galilee.
54 Este foi o segundo milagre que Jesus fez, quando ele ia da Judeia para a Galileia.
