1 Therefore you have nothing to say in your own defense, whoever you are who set yourself up as a judge. In judging others you condemn yourself, for you who set yourself up as a judge do the very same things.
1 Assim, és inescusável, ó homem, quem quer que sejas, que te arvoras em juiz. Naquilo que julgas a outrem, a ti mesmo te condenas; pois tu, que julgas, fazes as mesmas coisas que eles.
2 And we know that God’s judgment falls unerringly on those who do them.
2 Ora, sabemos que o juízo de Deus contra aqueles que fazem tais coisas corresponde à verdade.
3 You who judge those that do such things and yet are yourself guilty of them — do you suppose that you of all people will escape God’s judgment?
3 Tu, ó homem, que julgas os que praticam tais coisas, mas as cometes também, pensas que escaparás ao juízo de Deus?
4 Or do you think lightly of his abundant kindness, patience, and forbearance, not realizing that his kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?
4 Ou desprezas as riquezas da sua bondade, tolerância e longanimidade, desconhecendo que a bondade de Deus te convida ao arrependimento?
5 Hard-hearted and impenitent as you are, you are storing up for yourself wrath on the ‘day of wrath,’ when God’s justice as a judge will be revealed;
5 Mas, pela tua obstinação e coração impenitente, vais acumulando ira contra ti, para o dia da cólera e da revelação do justo juízo de Deus,
6 for ‘he will give to everyone what their actions deserve.’
6 que retribuirá a cada um segundo as suas obras:
7 To those who, by perseverance in doing good, aim at glory, honor, and all that is imperishable, he will give immortal life;
7 a vida eterna aos que, perseverando em fazer o bem, buscam a glória, a honra e a imortalidade;
8 while as to those who are factious, and disobedient to truth but obedient to evil, wrath and anger, distress and despair,
8 mas ira e indignação aos contumazes, rebeldes à verdade e seguidores do mal.
9 will fall on every human being who persists in wrong-doing — on the Jew first, but also on the Greek.
9 Tribulação e angústia sobrevirão a todo aquele que pratica o mal, primeiro ao judeu e depois ao grego;
10 But there will be glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does right — for the Jew first, but also for the Greek,
10 mas glória, honra e paz a todo o que faz o bem, primeiro ao judeu e depois ao grego.
11 since God shows no partiality.
11 Porque, diante de Deus, não há distinção de pessoas.
12 All who, when they sin, are without law will also perish without law; while all who, when they sin, are under law, will be judged as being under law.
12 Todos os que sem a lei pecaram, sem aplicação da lei perecerão; e quantos pecaram sob o regime da lei, pela lei serão julgados.
13 It is not those who hear the words of a law that are righteous before God, but it is those who obey it that will be pronounced righteous.
13 Porque diante de Deus não são justos os que ouvem a lei, mas serão tidos por justos os que praticam a lei.
14 When Gentiles, who have no law, do instinctively what the law requires, they, though they have no law, are a law to themselves;
14 Os pagãos, que não têm a lei, fazendo naturalmente as coisas que são da lei, embora não tenham a lei, a si mesmos servem de lei;
15 for they show the demands of the law written on their hearts; their consciences corroborating it, while in their thoughts they argue either in self-accusation or, it may be, in self-defense —
15 eles mostram que o objeto da lei está gravado nos seus corações, dando-lhes testemunho a sua consciência, bem como os seus raciocínios, com os quais se acusam ou se escusam mutuamente.
16 on the day when God passes judgment on people’s inmost lives, as the good news that I tell declares that he will do through Christ Jesus.
16 Isso aparecerá claramente no dia em que, segundo o meu Evangelho, Deus julgar as ações secretas dos homens, por Jesus Cristo.
17 But, perhaps, you bear the name of ‘Jew,’ and are relying on law, and boast of belonging to God, and understand his will,
17 Mas tu, que és chamado judeu, e te apóias na lei, e te glorias de teu Deus;
18 and, having been carefully instructed from the law, have learned to appreciate the finer moral distinctions.
18 tu, que conheces a sua vontade, e instruído pela lei sabes aquilatar a diferença das coisas;
19 Perhaps you are confident that you are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in the dark, an instructor of the unintelligent,
19 tu, que te ufanas de ser guia dos cegos, luzeiro dos que estão em trevas,
20 and a teacher of the childish, because in the law you possess the outline of all knowledge and truth.
20 doutor dos ignorantes, mestre dos simples, porque encontras na lei a regra da ciência e da verdade;
21 Why, then, you teacher of others, do not you teach yourself? Do you preach against stealing, and yet steal?
21 tu, que ensinas aos outros... não te ensinas a ti mesmo! Tu, que pregas que não se deve furtar, furtas!
22 Do you forbid adultery, and yet commit adultery? Do you loathe idols, and yet plunder temples?
22 Tu, que dizes que não se deve adulterar, adulteras! Tu, que abominas os ídolos, pilhas os seus templos!
23 Boasting, as you do, of your law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law?
23 Tu, que te glorias da lei, desonras a Deus pela transgressão da lei!
24 For, as scripture says — ‘The Gentiles insult God's name because of you’!
24 Porque assim fala a Escritura: "Por vossa causa o nome de Deus é blasfemado entre os pagãos {Is 52,5}.
25 Circumcision has its value, if you are obeying the law. But, if you are a breaker of the law, your circumcision is no better than uncircumcision.
25 A circuncisão, em verdade, é proveitosa se guardares a lei. Mas, se fores transgressor da lei, serás, com tua circuncisão, um mero incircunciso.
26 If, then, an uncircumcised man pays regard to the requirements of the law, will not he, although not circumcised, be regarded by God as if he were?
26 Se, portanto, o incircunciso observa os preceitos da lei, não será ele considerado como circunciso, apesar de sua incircuncisão?
27 Indeed, the person who, owing to his birth, remains uncircumcised, and yet scrupulously obeys the law, will condemn you, who, for all your written law and your circumcision, are yet a breaker of the law.
27 Ainda mais, o incircunciso de nascimento, cumprindo a lei, te julgará que, com a letra e com a circuncisão, és transgressor da lei.
28 For a man who is only a Jew outwardly is not a real Jew; nor is outward bodily circumcision real circumcision. The real Jew is the person who is a Jew in soul;
28 Não é verdadeiro judeu o que o é exteriormente, nem verdadeira circuncisão a que aparece exteriormente na carne.
29 and the real circumcision is the circumcision of the heart, a spiritual and not a literal thing. Such a person wins praise from God, though not from people.
29 Mas é judeu o que o é interiormente, e verdadeira circuncisão é a do coração, segundo o espírito da lei, e não segundo a letra. Tal judeu recebe o louvor não dos homens, e sim de Deus.
