1 Therefore you have nothing to say in your own defense, whoever you are who set yourself up as a judge. In judging others you condemn yourself, for you who set yourself up as a judge do the very same things.
1 Portanto, és inescusável quando julgas, ó homem, quem quer que sejas, porque te condenas a ti mesmo naquilo em que julgas a outro; pois tu, que julgas, fazes o mesmo.
2 And we know that God’s judgment falls unerringly on those who do them.
2 E bem sabemos que o juízo de Deus é segundo a verdade sobre os que tais coisas fazem.
3 You who judge those that do such things and yet are yourself guilty of them — do you suppose that you of all people will escape God’s judgment?
3 E tu, ó homem, que julgas os que fazem tais coisas, cuidas que, fazendo-as tu, escaparás ao juízo de Deus?
4 Or do you think lightly of his abundant kindness, patience, and forbearance, not realizing that his kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?
4 Ou desprezas tu as riquezas da sua benignidade, e paciência e longanimidade, ignorando que a benignidade de Deus te leva ao arrependimento?
5 Hard-hearted and impenitent as you are, you are storing up for yourself wrath on the ‘day of wrath,’ when God’s justice as a judge will be revealed;
5 Mas, segundo a tua dureza e teu coração impenitente, entesouras ira para ti no dia da ira e da manifestação do juízo de Deus;
6 for ‘he will give to everyone what their actions deserve.’
6 O qual recompensará cada um segundo as suas obras; a saber:
7 To those who, by perseverance in doing good, aim at glory, honor, and all that is imperishable, he will give immortal life;
7 A vida eterna aos que, com perseverança em fazer bem, procuram glória, honra e incorrupção;
8 while as to those who are factious, and disobedient to truth but obedient to evil, wrath and anger, distress and despair,
8 Mas a indignação e a ira aos que são contenciosos, desobedientes à verdade e obedientes à iniqüidade;
9 will fall on every human being who persists in wrong-doing — on the Jew first, but also on the Greek.
9 Tribulação e angústia sobre toda a alma do homem que faz o mal; primeiramente do judeu e também do grego;
10 But there will be glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does right — for the Jew first, but also for the Greek,
10 Glória, porém, e honra e paz a qualquer que pratica o bem; primeiramente ao judeu e também ao grego;
11 since God shows no partiality.
11 Porque, para com Deus, não há acepção de pessoas.
12 All who, when they sin, are without law will also perish without law; while all who, when they sin, are under law, will be judged as being under law.
12 Porque todos os que sem lei pecaram, sem lei também perecerão; e todos os que sob a lei pecaram, pela lei serão julgados.
13 It is not those who hear the words of a law that are righteous before God, but it is those who obey it that will be pronounced righteous.
13 Porque os que ouvem a lei não são justos diante de Deus, mas os que praticam a lei hão de ser justificados.
14 When Gentiles, who have no law, do instinctively what the law requires, they, though they have no law, are a law to themselves;
14 Porque, quando os gentios, que não têm lei, fazem naturalmente as coisas que são da lei, não tendo eles lei, para si mesmos são lei;
15 for they show the demands of the law written on their hearts; their consciences corroborating it, while in their thoughts they argue either in self-accusation or, it may be, in self-defense —
15 Os quais mostram a obra da lei escrita em seus corações, testificando juntamente a sua consciência, e os seus pensamentos, quer acusando-os, quer defendendo-os;
16 on the day when God passes judgment on people’s inmost lives, as the good news that I tell declares that he will do through Christ Jesus.
16 No dia em que Deus há de julgar os segredos dos homens, por Jesus Cristo, segundo o meu evangelho.
17 But, perhaps, you bear the name of ‘Jew,’ and are relying on law, and boast of belonging to God, and understand his will,
17 Eis que tu que tens por sobrenome judeu, e repousas na lei, e te glorias em Deus;
18 and, having been carefully instructed from the law, have learned to appreciate the finer moral distinctions.
18 E sabes a sua vontade e aprovas as coisas excelentes, sendo instruído por lei;
19 Perhaps you are confident that you are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in the dark, an instructor of the unintelligent,
19 E confias que és guia dos cegos, luz dos que estão em trevas,
20 and a teacher of the childish, because in the law you possess the outline of all knowledge and truth.
20 Instruidor dos néscios, mestre de crianças, que tens a forma da ciência e da verdade na lei;
21 Why, then, you teacher of others, do not you teach yourself? Do you preach against stealing, and yet steal?
21 Tu, pois, que ensinas a outro, não te ensinas a ti mesmo? Tu, que pregas que não se deve furtar, furtas?
22 Do you forbid adultery, and yet commit adultery? Do you loathe idols, and yet plunder temples?
22 Tu, que dizes que não se deve adulterar, adulteras? Tu, que abominas os ídolos, cometes sacrilégio?
23 Boasting, as you do, of your law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law?
23 Tu, que te glorias na lei, desonras a Deus pela transgressão da lei?
24 For, as scripture says — ‘The Gentiles insult God's name because of you’!
24 Porque, como está escrito, o nome de Deus é blasfemado entre os gentios por causa de vós.
25 Circumcision has its value, if you are obeying the law. But, if you are a breaker of the law, your circumcision is no better than uncircumcision.
25 Porque a circuncisão é, na verdade, proveitosa, se tu guardares a lei; mas, se tu és transgressor da lei, a tua circuncisão se torna em incircuncisão.
26 If, then, an uncircumcised man pays regard to the requirements of the law, will not he, although not circumcised, be regarded by God as if he were?
26 Se, pois, a incircuncisão guardar os preceitos da lei, porventura a incircuncisão não será reputada como circuncisão?
27 Indeed, the person who, owing to his birth, remains uncircumcised, and yet scrupulously obeys the law, will condemn you, who, for all your written law and your circumcision, are yet a breaker of the law.
27 E a incircuncisão que por natureza o é, se cumpre a lei, não te julgará porventura a ti, que pela letra e circuncisão és transgressor da lei?
28 For a man who is only a Jew outwardly is not a real Jew; nor is outward bodily circumcision real circumcision. The real Jew is the person who is a Jew in soul;
28 Porque não é judeu o que o é exteriormente, nem é circuncisão a que o é exteriormente na carne.
29 and the real circumcision is the circumcision of the heart, a spiritual and not a literal thing. Such a person wins praise from God, though not from people.
29 Mas é judeu o que o é no interior, e circuncisão a que é do coração, no espírito, não na letra; cujo louvor não provém dos homens, mas de Deus.
