1 Therefore, my Christian friends, you who, all alike, have received the call from heaven, fix your attention on Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our religion.
1 Meus irmãos na fé, vocês que também foram chamados por Deus, olhem para Jesus, que Deus enviou para ser o Grande Sacerdote da fé que professamos.
2 See how faithful he was to the God who appointed him, as Moses was in the whole house of God.
2 Pois ele foi fiel a Deus, que o escolheu para esse serviço, assim como Moisés foi fiel no seu trabalho em toda a casa de Deus .
3 He has been deemed worthy of far higher honor than Moses, just as the founder of the house is held in greater regard than the house itself.
3 Assim como a pessoa que constrói uma casa é mais importante do que a casa, assim, também, Jesus é mais importante do que Moisés.
4 For every house has its founder, and the founder of the universe is God.
4 Uma casa tem de ser construída por alguém, mas Deus é o construtor de tudo o que existe.
5 While the faithful service of Moses in the whole house of God was that of a servant, whose duty was to bear testimony to a message still to come,
5 E Moisés foi um servo fiel no seu trabalho na casa de Deus e falou das coisas que Deus ia dizer no futuro.
6 the faithfulness of Christ was that of a son set over the house of God. And we are his house — if only we retain, unshaken to the end, the courage and confidence inspired by our hope.
6 Mas Cristo é fiel como Filho, que dirige a casa de Deus. E nós seremos a sua casa se conservarmos a nossa coragem e a nossa confiança naquilo que esperamos.
7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says — ‘If today you hear God’s voice,
7 Por isso, como diz o Espírito Santo: “Se hoje vocês ouvirem a voz de Deus,
8 harden not your hearts, as when Israel provoked me On the day when they tried my patience in the desert,
8 não sejam teimosos como foram os seus antepassados quando se revoltaram contra ele, no dia em que eles o puseram à prova no deserto.
9 Where your ancestors tried my forbearance, And saw my mighty deeds for forty years.
9 Ali os antepassados de vocês me desafiaram e me puseram à prova, embora eles tivessem visto o que eu fiz durante quarenta anos.
10 Therefore I was sorely vexed with that generation, And I said — “Their hearts are always straying; They have never learned my ways”;
10 Por isso fiquei irritado com aquela gente e disse: ‘Eles são gente de coração perverso e não querem obedecer aos meus mandamentos.’
11 While in my wrath I swore — “They will never enter upon my rest.”’
11 Eu fiquei irado e fiz este juramento: ‘Eles nunca entrarão na onde eu lhes teria dado descanso!’ ”
12 Be careful, friends, that there is never found in anyone of you a wicked and faithless heart, shown by that person separating themselves from the living God.
12 Meus irmãos, cuidado para que nenhum de vocês tenha um coração tão mau e descrente, que o leve a se afastar do Deus vivo.
13 Rather encourage one another daily — while there is a ‘Today’ — to prevent anyone among you from being hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
13 Pelo contrário, enquanto esse “hoje” de que falam as Escrituras Sagradas se aplicar a nós, animem uns aos outros, a fim de que nenhum de vocês se deixe enganar pelo pecado, nem endureça o seu coração.
14 For we now all share in the Christ, if indeed we retain, unshaken to the end, the confidence that we had at the first.
14 Pois seremos companheiros de Cristo se continuarmos firmes até o fim na confiança que temos tido desde o princípio.
15 To use the words of scripture — ‘If today you hear God’s voice, Harden not your hearts, as when Israel provoked me.’
15 É isso o que as Escrituras Sagradas dizem: “Se hoje vocês ouvirem a voz de Deus, não sejam teimosos como foram os seus antepassados quando se revoltaram contra ele.”
16 Who were they who heard God speak and yet provoked him? Were not they all those who left Egypt under the leadership of Moses?
16 Quem foi que ouviu a voz de Deus e se revoltou contra ele? Foram todos os que Moisés tirou do Egito.
17 And with whom was it that God was sorely vexed for forty years? Was not it with those who had sinned, and who fell dead in the desert?
17 Com quem foi que Deus se irritou durante quarenta anos? Foi com os que pecaram e caíram mortos no deserto.
18 And who were they to whom God swore that they should not enter upon his rest, if not those who had proved faithless?
18 E de quem é que Deus estava falando quando fez este juramento: “Eles nunca entrarão na Terra Prometida, onde eu lhes teria dado descanso”? Ele estava falando das pessoas que se revoltaram.
19 We see, then, that they failed to enter upon it because of their want of faith.
19 Portanto, vemos que elas não puderam entrar na Terra Prometida porque não tiveram fé.
