1 Therefore, my Christian friends, you who, all alike, have received the call from heaven, fix your attention on Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our religion.
1 Por isso, santos irmãos, vocês que são participantes da vocação celestial, considerem atentamente o Apóstolo e Sumo Sacerdote da nossa confissão, Jesus,
2 See how faithful he was to the God who appointed him, as Moses was in the whole house of God.
2 o qual é fiel àquele que o constituiu, como também Moisés foi fiel em toda a casa de Deus.
3 He has been deemed worthy of far higher honor than Moses, just as the founder of the house is held in greater regard than the house itself.
3 No entanto, assim como aquele que edifica uma casa tem maior honra do que a casa em si, também Jesus tem sido considerado digno de maior glória do que Moisés.
4 For every house has its founder, and the founder of the universe is God.
4 Pois toda casa é edificada por alguém, mas aquele que edificou todas as coisas é Deus.
5 While the faithful service of Moses in the whole house of God was that of a servant, whose duty was to bear testimony to a message still to come,
5 E Moisés foi fiel, em toda a casa de Deus, como servo, para testemunho das coisas que haviam de ser anunciadas.
6 the faithfulness of Christ was that of a son set over the house of God. And we are his house — if only we retain, unshaken to the end, the courage and confidence inspired by our hope.
6 Cristo, porém, como Filho, é fiel em sua casa. Esta casa somos nós, se guardarmos firme a ousadia e a exultação da esperança.
7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says — ‘If today you hear God’s voice,
7 Por isso, como diz o Espírito Santo: “Hoje, se ouvirem a sua voz,
8 harden not your hearts, as when Israel provoked me On the day when they tried my patience in the desert,
8 não endureçam o coração como foi na rebelião, no dia da tentação no deserto,
9 Where your ancestors tried my forbearance, And saw my mighty deeds for forty years.
9 onde os pais de vocês me tentaram, pondo-me à prova, e viram as minhas obras durante quarenta anos.
10 Therefore I was sorely vexed with that generation, And I said — “Their hearts are always straying; They have never learned my ways”;
10 Por isso, me indignei contra essa geração e disse: ‘O coração deles sempre se afasta de mim; e eles não conheceram os meus caminhos.’
11 While in my wrath I swore — “They will never enter upon my rest.”’
11 Assim, jurei na minha ira: ‘Não entrarão no meu descanso.’”
12 Be careful, friends, that there is never found in anyone of you a wicked and faithless heart, shown by that person separating themselves from the living God.
12 Tenham cuidado, irmãos, para que nenhum de vocês tenha um coração mau e descrente, que se afaste do Deus vivo.
13 Rather encourage one another daily — while there is a ‘Today’ — to prevent anyone among you from being hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
13 Pelo contrário, animem uns aos outros todos os dias, durante o tempo que se chama “hoje”, a fim de que nenhum de vocês seja endurecido pelo engano do pecado.
14 For we now all share in the Christ, if indeed we retain, unshaken to the end, the confidence that we had at the first.
14 Porque temos nos tornado participantes de Cristo, se, de fato, guardarmos firme, até o fim, a confiança que, desde o princípio, tivemos.
15 To use the words of scripture — ‘If today you hear God’s voice, Harden not your hearts, as when Israel provoked me.’
15 Como se diz: “Hoje, se ouvirem a sua voz, não endureçam o coração, como foi na rebelião.”
16 Who were they who heard God speak and yet provoked him? Were not they all those who left Egypt under the leadership of Moses?
16 E quem foram os que ouviram e, mesmo assim, se rebelaram? Não foram todos os que saíram do Egito por meio de Moisés?
17 And with whom was it that God was sorely vexed for forty years? Was not it with those who had sinned, and who fell dead in the desert?
17 E contra quem Deus se indignou durante quarenta anos? Não foi contra os que pecaram, cujos cadáveres caíram no deserto?
18 And who were they to whom God swore that they should not enter upon his rest, if not those who had proved faithless?
18 E a quem jurou que não entrariam no seu descanso, senão aos que foram desobedientes?
19 We see, then, that they failed to enter upon it because of their want of faith.
19 Assim, vemos que não puderam entrar por causa da incredulidade.
