1 My point is this — As long as the heir is under age, there is no difference between him and a slave, though he is master of the whole estate.
1 Digo mais isto: enquanto é menor de idade, o filho que vai herdar a propriedade do pai é tratado como escravo, mesmo sendo, de fato, o dono de tudo.
2 He is subject to the control of guardians and stewards, during the period for which his father has power to appoint them.
2 Enquanto é menor, há pessoas que tomam conta dele e cuidam dos seus negócios até o tempo marcado pelo pai.
3 And so is it with us; when we were under age, as it were, we were slaves to the puerile teaching of this world;
3 Assim também nós, antes de ficarmos adultos espiritualmente, fomos escravos dos poderes espirituais que dominam o mundo .
4 but, when the full time came, God sent his Son — born a woman’s child, born subject to law —
4 Mas, quando chegou o tempo certo, Deus enviou o seu próprio Filho, que veio como filho de mãe humana e viveu debaixo da lei
5 To ransom those who were subject to law, so that we might take our position as sons.
5 para libertar os que estavam debaixo da lei, a fim de que nós pudéssemos nos tornar filhos de Deus.
6 And it is because you are sons that God sent into our hearts the Spirit of his Son, with the cry — ‘Abba, our Father.’
6 E, para mostrar que vocês são seus filhos, Deus enviou o Espírito do seu Filho ao nosso coração, o Espírito que exclama: “Pai, meu Pai.”
7 You, therefore, are no longer a slave, but a son; and, if a son, then an heir also, by God’s appointment.
7 Assim vocês não são mais escravos; vocês são filhos. E, já que são filhos, Deus lhes dará tudo o que ele tem para dar aos seus filhos.
8 Yet formerly, in your ignorance of God, you became slaves to ‘gods’ which were no gods.
8 No passado vocês não conheciam a Deus e por isso eram escravos de deuses que, de fato, não são deuses.
9 But now that you have found God — or, rather, have been found by him — how is it that you are turning back to that poor and feeble puerile teaching, to which yet once again you are wanting to become slaves?
9 Mas, agora que vocês conhecem a Deus, ou melhor, agora que Deus os conhece, como é que vocês querem voltar para aqueles poderes espirituais fracos e sem valor? Por que querem se tornar escravos deles outra vez?
10 You are scrupulous in keeping days and months and seasons and years!
10 Por que dão tanta importância a certos dias, meses, estações e anos?
11 You make me fear that the labor which I have spent on you may have been wasted.
11 Estou muito preocupado com vocês! Será que todo o trabalho que tive com vocês não valeu nada?
12 I entreat you, friends, to become like me, as I became like you. You have never done me any wrong.
12 Meus irmãos, peço que sejam como eu. Afinal eu sou como vocês, e vocês não me ofenderam em nada.
13 You remember that it was owing to bodily infirmity that on the first occasion I told you the good news.
13 Lembram por que foi que lhes anunciei pela primeira vez o evangelho ? Foi porque eu estava doente.
14 And as for what must have tried you in my condition, it did not inspire you with scorn or disgust, but you welcomed me as if I had been an angel of God — or Christ Jesus himself!
14 Mas vocês não me desprezaram, nem me rejeitaram, embora o meu estado de saúde fosse uma dura prova para vocês. Pelo contrário, vocês me receberam como se eu fosse um anjo de Deus ou mesmo como se eu fosse Cristo Jesus.
15 What has become then, of your blessings? For I can bear witness that, had it been possible, you would have torn out your eyes and given them to me!
15 E como vocês estavam felizes! Eu posso afirmar que, se pudessem, vocês teriam arrancado os seus próprios olhos para me dar! O que foi que aconteceu?
16 Am I to think, then, that I have become your enemy by telling you the truth?
16 Será que agora, por ter dito a verdade, eu me tornei inimigo de vocês?
17 Certain people are seeking your favor, but with no honorable object. No, indeed, they want to isolate you, so that you will have to seek their favor.
17 Esses homens mostram grande interesse por vocês, mas a intenção deles não é boa. O que eles querem é separar vocês de mim para que vocês sintam por eles o mesmo interesse que eles sentem por vocês.
18 It is always honorable to have your favor sought in an honorable cause, and not only when I am with you, my dear children —
18 É bom vocês terem um interesse sincero sempre e não somente quando estou com vocês.
19 You for whom I am again enduring a mother’s pains, until a likeness to Christ will have been formed in you.
19 Meus queridos filhos, eu estou sofrendo por vocês, como uma mulher que tem dores de parto. E continuarei sofrendo até que Cristo esteja vivendo em vocês.
20 But I could wish to be with you now and speak in a different tone, for I am perplexed about you.
20 Como eu gostaria de estar aí agora para poder falar com vocês de modo diferente! Estou muito preocupado com vocês.
21 Tell me, you who want to be still subject to law — Why do not you listen to the law?
21 Vocês que querem estar debaixo da lei , me digam uma coisa: vocês não estão ouvindo o que a Lei diz?
22 scripture says that Abraham had two sons, one the child of the slave-woman and the other the child of the free woman.
22 Ela diz que Abraão teve dois filhos: um, de uma escrava, Agar; e outro, de uma mulher livre, Sara.
23 But the child of the slave-woman was born in the course of nature, while the child of the free woman was born in fulfillment of a promise.
23 O filho da escrava foi gerado como todas as crianças são geradas, mas o filho da mulher livre foi gerado por causa da promessa de Deus.
24 This story may be taken as an allegory. The women stand for two Covenants. One covenant, given from Mount Sinai, produces a race of slaves and is represented by Hagar
24 Isto serve como um símbolo: as duas mulheres representam as duas alianças . Uma aliança é a do monte Sinai e está representada por Agar. Os que são dessa aliança nascem escravos.
25 (The word Hagar meaning in Arabia Mount Sinai) and it ranks with the Jerusalem of today, for she and her children are in slavery.
25 Pois Agar representa o monte Sinai, na Arábia, e Agar é o símbolo da Jerusalém atual, que é escrava com todo o seu povo.
26 But the Jerusalem above is free, and she it is who is our mother.
26 Mas a Jerusalém celestial é livre e ela é a nossa mãe.
27 For scripture says — ‘Rejoice, you barren one, who does never bear, Break into shouts, you who are never in labor, For many are the children of her who is desolate — aye, more than of her who has a husband.’
27 Pois as Escrituras Sagradas dizem: “Você, mulher que nunca teve filhos, fique alegre! Você que nunca sentiu dores de parto, grite de alegria! Pois a mulher abandonada terá mais filhos do que a que mora com o marido.”
28 As for ourselves, friends, we, like Isaac, are children born in fulfillment of a promise.
28 Meus irmãos, vocês são como Isaque; são filhos de Deus por causa da promessa divina.
29 Yet at that time the child born in the course of nature persecuted the child born by the power of the Spirit; and it is the same now.
29 Naquela época o filho que havia sido gerado como todas as crianças são geradas perseguiu o que havia sido gerado por causa do Espírito de Deus; e a mesma coisa está acontecendo agora.
30 But what does the passage of scripture say? ‘Send away the slave-woman and her son; for the slave’s son will not be coheir with the son of the free woman.’
30 Mas o que é que as Escrituras Sagradas dizem? Elas dizem: “Mande embora a escrava e o filho dela, pois o filho da escrava não herdará a propriedade do pai, junto com o filho da mulher livre.”
31 And so, friends, we are not children of a slave, but of her who is free.
31 Portanto, meus irmãos, nós não somos filhos de uma escrava, mas de uma mulher livre.
