1 And Eliphaz the Temanite answered:
1 Então, respondeu Elifaz, o temanita, e disse:
2 Shall one try a word with you, you who are weary? But who can hold back with words?
2 Se intentar alguém falar-te, enfadar-te-ás? Quem, todavia, poderá conter as palavras?
3 Behold, you have instructed many, and you have made the weak hands strong.
3 Eis que tens ensinado a muitos e tens fortalecido mãos fracas.
4 Your words have upheld him who was falling, and you have made strong the feeble knees.
4 As tuas palavras têm sustentado aos que tropeçavam, e os joelhos vacilantes tens fortificado.
5 But now it has come upon you, and you faint. It touches you, and you are troubled.
5 Mas agora, em chegando a tua vez, tu te enfadas; sendo tu atingido, te perturbas.
6 Is not your reverence your hope? Is not your hope the uprightness of your ways?
6 Porventura, não é o teu temor de Deus aquilo em que confias, e a tua esperança, a retidão dos teus caminhos?
7 Remember, please, who ever perished, being innocent? Or where were the righteous cut off?
7 Lembra-te: acaso, já pereceu algum inocente? E onde foram os retos destruídos?
8 As I have seen, the ones who plow iniquity and sow wickedness reap the same.
8 Segundo eu tenho visto, os que lavram a iniquidade e semeiam o mal, isso mesmo eles segam.
9 By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of His nostrils they are destroyed.
9 Com o hálito de Deus perecem; e com o assopro da sua ira se consomem.
10 The roar of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken.
10 Cessa o bramido do leão e a voz do leão feroz, e os dentes dos leõezinhos se quebram.
11 The strong lion perishes for lack of prey, and the strong lion's cubs are scattered abroad.
11 Perece o leão, porque não há presa, e os filhos da leoa andam dispersos.
12 And a word was secretly brought to me, and my ear received a little of it.
12 Uma palavra se me disse em segredo; e os meus ouvidos perceberam um sussurro dela.
13 In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men,
13 Entre pensamentos de visões noturnas, quando profundo sono cai sobre os homens,
14 fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones shake.
14 sobrevieram-me o espanto e o tremor, e todos os meus ossos estremeceram.
15 And a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up.
15 Então, um espírito passou por diante de mim; fez-me arrepiar os cabelos do meu corpo;
16 It stood still, but I could not tell the form of it. An image was before my eyes; silence; then I heard a voice,
16 parou ele, mas não lhe discerni a aparência; um vulto estava diante dos meus olhos; houve silêncio, e ouvi uma voz:
17 Shall mortal man be more just than God? Shall a man be more pure than his Maker?
17 Seria, porventura, o mortal justo diante de Deus? Seria, acaso, o homem puro diante do seu Criador?
18 Behold, He puts no trust in His servants, and His angels He charges with folly!
18 Eis que Deus não confia nos seus servos e aos seus anjos atribui imperfeições;
19 How much less in those who live in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed before the moth?
19 quanto mais àqueles que habitam em casas de barro, cujo fundamento está no pó, e são esmagados como a traça!
20 They are destroyed from morning till evening; they perish forever without anyone caring.
20 Nascem de manhã e à tarde são destruídos; perecem para sempre, sem que disso se faça caso.
21 Is not their tent cord plucked up within them? They die, but not with wisdom.
21 Se se lhes corta o fio da vida, morrem e não atingem a sabedoria.
