1 In the third year of Cyrus the king of the Persians, a word was revealed to Daniel, who was called by his name Belteshazzar, and the word was reliable and it concerned a great tribulation, and he understood the word and ⌞he received understanding⌟.
1 No terceiro ano de Ciro, rei da Pérsia, um oráculo foi revelado a Daniel {cognominado Baltazar}. Esse oráculo era verídico e anunciava grandes lutas. Daniel compreendeu o oráculo e teve conhecimento do sentido da visão.
2 In those days, I, Daniel, I myself was in mourning ⌞for three whole weeks⌟.
2 Naquele tempo, eu, Daniel, fiz penitência durante três semanas.
3 I had not eaten any choice food, and meat and wine did not enter my mouth, and ⌞I did not use any ointment⌟ ⌞until the end of three whole weeks⌟.
3 Não provei alimento delicado algum: não passou em minha boca nem carne nem vinho; não me ungi de óleo absolutamente durante o transcurso dessas três semanas.
4 And then on the twenty-fourth day of the first month, I myself was on the bank of the great river; that is, the Tigris.
4 No vigésimo quarto dia do primeiro mês, encontrava-me à beira do grande rio, o Tigre.
5 And I lifted up my eyes and I saw, and there was a man, and he was dressed in linen, and his waist was girded with the gold of Uphaz.
5 Levantando os olhos, vi um homem vestido de linho. Cingia-lhe os rins um cinto de ouro de Ufaz.
6 Now his body was like turquoise, and his face was like the appearance of lightning, and his eyes were like torches of fire, and his arms and his legs were like the gleam of polished bronze, and the sound of his words was like the sound of a multitude.
6 Seu corpo era como o crisólito; seu rosto brilhava como o relâmpago, seus olhos, como tochas ardentes, seus braços e pés tinham o aspecto do bronze polido e sua voz ressoava como o rumor de uma multidão.
7 And I saw, I, Daniel ⌞alone⌟, the vision; and the people who were with me ⌞did not see⌟ the vision; nevertheless, a great trembling fell upon them and they fled in order to hide themselves.
7 Eu, Daniel, era o único a ver essa aparição; meus companheiros não a viram, mas se apoderou deles um tão grande pavor que fugiram para esconder-se.
8 And I myself, Daniel, alone saw this great vision, and as a result ⌞no strength was left in me⌟ and ⌞my complexion grew deathly pale⌟, and I did not retain any strength.
8 Fiquei portanto sozinho a contemplar essa grandiosa aparição. As forças me abandonaram: a tez do meu rosto tornou-se lívida e eu desfaleci.
9 And I heard the sound of his words, and ⌞when I heard⌟ the sound of his words I myself began falling into a trance on my face, ⌞with my face to the ground⌟.
9 Ouvi então esse homem falar, e, ao som de suas palavras, caí desmaiado, com o rosto por terra.
10 And look, a hand touched me and it roused me to my knees and the palms of my hands.
10 Eis porém que uma mão me tocou, e fez com que me erguesse sobre os joelhos e as palmas das mãos.
11 And he said to me, “Daniel, a man beloved, pay attention to the words that I am speaking to you and ⌞stand upright where you are⌟, for I have now been sent to you.” And ⌞while he was speaking⌟ with me this word, I stood up trembling.
11 Daniel, homem de predileção, disse-me ele, presta atenção às palavras que vou dirigir-te. Levanta-te, pois tenho uma mensagem a te confiar. Como me falasse assim, levantei-me tremendo.
12 And he said to me, “You must not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and to humble yourself ⌞before⌟ your God, your words were heard, and I myself have come because of your words.
12 Não temas, Daniel, disse-me, porque desde o primeiro dia em que aplicaste teu espírito a compreender, e em que te humilhaste diante de teu Deus, tua oração foi ouvida, e é por isso que eu vim.
13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia stood ⌞before me⌟ for twenty-one days. And look, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to assist me, and I left him there beside the king of the Persians.
13 O chefe do reino persa resistiu-me durante vinte e um dias; porém Miguel, um dos principais chefes, veio em meu socorro. Permaneci assim ao lado dos reis da Pérsia.
14 And I have come to instruct you about what will happen to your people ⌞in the future⌟, for there is a further vision here ⌞for the future⌟.
14 Aqui estou para fazer-te compreender o que deve acontecer a teu povo nos últimos dias; pois essa visão diz respeito a tempos longínquos.
15 And while he was speaking with me according to these words, I turned my face toward the ground and I was speechless.
15 Enquanto assim me falava, eu mantinha meus olhos fixos no chão e permanecia mudo.
16 Then look, there was ⌞one in the form of a human⌟; he touched my lips and I opened my mouth and I spoke and I said to the one standing ⌞before me⌟, “My lord, because of the vision my anxieties fell upon me and I have not retained my strength.
16 De repente, um ser de forma humana tocou-me nos lábios. Abri a boca e falei; disse ao personagem que estava perto de mim: Meu senhor, essa visão transtornou-me, e estou sem forças.
17 So ⌞how am I, a servant of my lord⌟ to speak with ⌞you, my lord⌟, and I ⌞just now⌟ ⌞have no strength in me⌟?”
17 Como poderia o servo de meu senhor conversar com seu senhor, quando está sem forças e sem fôlego?
18 And ⌞he again touched⌟ me, ⌞the one in the form of a human⌟, and he strengthened me.
18 Então o ser em forma humana tocou-me novamente e me reanimou.
19 And he said, “You must not fear, O beloved man. ⌞Peace be to you⌟; be strong and be courageous!” And ⌞when he spoke⌟ with me, I was strengthened and I said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.”
19 Não temas nada, homem de predileção! Que a paz esteja contigo! Coragem, coragem! Enquanto ele me falava senti-me reanimado. Fala, meu senhor, disse, pois tu me restituíste as minhas forças.
20 Then he asked, “Do you know why I have come to you? And now I return to fight against the prince of Persia and I myself am going, and look, the prince of Javan will come.
20 Sabes bem, prosseguiu ele, porque vim a ti? Vou voltar agora para lutar contra o chefe da Pérsia, e no momento em que eu partir virá o chefe de Javã.
21 However, I will tell you ⌞what is inscribed⌟ in the book of truth, and there is not one who contends with me against these beings ⌞except⌟ Michael, your prince.”
21 Mas {antes}, far-te-ei conhecer o que está escrito no livro da verdade.Contra esses adversários não há ninguém que me defenda a não ser Miguel, vosso chefe.
