¹ Jesus tornou a falar-lhes por meio de parábolas:

² svargiiyaraajyam etaad.r"sasya n.rpate.h sama.m, yo nija putra.m vivaahayan sarvvaan nimantritaan aanetu.m daaseyaan prahitavaan,

² The kingdom of the heavens has become like a king who made a wedding feast for his son,

³ kintu te samaagantu.m ne.s.tavanta.h|

³ and sent his bondmen to call the persons invited to the wedding feast, and they would not come.

⁴ tato raajaa punarapi daasaananyaan ityuktvaa pre.sayaamaasa, nimantritaan vadata, pa"syata, mama bhejyamaasaaditamaaste, nijav.ta.saadipu.s.tajantuun maarayitvaa sarvva.m khaadyadravyamaasaaditavaan, yuuya.m vivaahamaagacchata|

⁴ Again he sent other bondmen, saying, Say to the persons invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fatted beasts are killed, and all things ready; come to the wedding feast.

⁵ tathapi te tucchiik.rtya kecit nijak.setra.m kecid vaa.nijya.m prati svasvamaarge.na calitavanta.h|

⁵ But they made light of it, and went, one to his own land, and another to his commerce.

⁶ anye lokaastasya daaseyaan dh.rtvaa dauraatmya.m vyavah.rtya taanavadhi.su.h|

⁶ And the rest, laying hold of his bondmen, ill-treated and slew {them}.

⁷ anantara.m sa n.rpatistaa.m vaarttaa.m "srutvaa krudhyan sainyaani prahitya taan ghaatakaan hatvaa te.saa.m nagara.m daahayaamaasa|

⁷ And {when} the king {heard of it he} was wroth, and having sent his forces, destroyed those murderers and burned their city.

⁸ tata.h sa nijadaaseyaan babhaa.se, vivaahiiya.m bhojyamaasaaditamaaste, kintu nimantritaa janaa ayogyaa.h|

⁸ Then he says to his bondmen, The wedding feast is ready, but those invited were not worthy;

⁹ tasmaad yuuya.m raajamaarga.m gatvaa yaavato manujaan pa"syata, taavataeva vivaahiiyabhojyaaya nimantrayata|

⁹ go therefore into the thoroughfares of the highways, and as many as ye shall find invite to the wedding feast.

¹⁰ tadaa te daaseyaa raajamaarga.m gatvaa bhadraan abhadraan vaa yaavato janaan dad.r"su.h, taavataeva sa.mg.rhyaanayan; tato.abhyaagatamanujai rvivaahag.rham apuuryyata|

¹⁰ And those bondmen went out into the highways, and brought together all as many as they found, both evil and good; and the wedding feast was furnished with guests.

¹¹ tadaanii.m sa raajaa sarvvaanabhyaagataan dra.s.tum abhyantaramaagatavaan; tadaa tatra vivaahiiyavasanahiinameka.m jana.m viik.sya ta.m jagaad,

¹¹ And the king, having gone in to see the guests, beheld there a man not clothed with a wedding garment.

¹² he mitra,tva.m vivaahiiyavasana.m vinaa kathamatra pravi.s.tavaan? tena sa niruttaro babhuuva|

¹² And he says to him, {My} friend, how camest thou in here not having on a wedding garment? But he was speechless.

¹³ tadaa raajaa nijaanucaraan avadat, etasya karacara.naan baddhaa yatra rodana.m dantairdantaghar.sa.na nca bhavati, tatra vahirbhuutatamisre ta.m nik.sipata|

¹³ Then said the king to the servants, Bind him feet and hands, and take him away, and cast him out into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

¹⁴ ittha.m bahava aahuutaa alpe manobhimataa.h|

¹⁴ For many are called ones, but few chosen ones.

¹⁵ anantara.m phiruu"sina.h pragatya yathaa sa.mlaapena tam unmaathe paatayeyustathaa mantrayitvaa

¹⁶ And they send out to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that thou art true and teachest the way of God in truth, and carest not for any one, for thou regardest not men's person;

¹⁷ ata.h kaisarabhuupaaya karo.asmaaka.m daatavyo na vaa? atra bhavataa ki.m budhyate? tad asmaan vadatu|

¹⁷ tell us therefore what thou thinkest: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

¹⁸ tato yii"suste.saa.m khalataa.m vij naaya kathitavaan, re kapa.tina.h yuya.m kuto maa.m parik.sadhve?

¹⁸ But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said, Why tempt ye me, hypocrites?

¹⁹ tatkaradaanasya mudraa.m maa.m dar"sayata| tadaanii.m taistasya samiipa.m mudraacaturthabhaaga aaniite

¹⁹ Shew me the money of the tribute. And they presented to him a denarius.

²⁰ sa taan papraccha, atra kasyeya.m muurtti rnaama caaste? te jagadu.h, kaisarabhuupasya|

²⁰ And he says to them, Whose {is} this image and superscription?

²¹ tata.h sa uktavaana, kaisarasya yat tat kaisaraaya datta, ii"svarasya yat tad ii"svaraaya datta|

²¹ They say to him, Caesar's. Then he says to them, Pay then what is Caesar's to Caesar, and what is God's to God.

²² iti vaakya.m ni"samya te vismaya.m vij naaya ta.m vihaaya calitavanta.h|

²² And when they heard {him}, they wondered, and left him, and went away.

²³ tasminnahani siduukino.arthaat "sma"saanaat notthaasyantiiti vaakya.m ye vadanti, te yii"seाrantikam aagatya papracchu.h,

²⁴ saying, Teacher, Moses said, If any one die, not having children, his brother shall marry his wife and shall raise up seed to his brother.

²⁵ kintvasmaakamatra ke.api janaa.h saptasahodaraa aasan, te.saa.m jye.s.tha ekaa.m kanyaa.m vyavahaat, apara.m praa.natyaagakaale svaya.m ni.hsantaana.h san taa.m striya.m svabhraatari samarpitavaan,

²⁵ Now there were with us seven brethren; and the first having married died, and not having seed, left his wife to his brother.

²⁶ tato dvitiiyaadisaptamaantaa"sca tathaiva cakru.h|

²⁶ In like manner also the second and the third, unto the seven.

²⁷ "se.se saapii naarii mamaara|

²⁷ And last of all the woman also died.

²⁸ m.rtaanaam utthaanasamaye te.saa.m saptaanaa.m madhye saa naarii kasya bhaaryyaa bhavi.syati? yasmaat sarvvaeva taa.m vyavahan|

²⁸ In the resurrection therefore of which of the seven shall she be wife, for all had her?

²⁹ tato yii"su.h pratyavaadiit, yuuya.m dharmmapustakam ii"svariiyaa.m "sakti nca na vij naaya bhraantimanta.h|

²⁹ And Jesus answering said to them, Ye err, not knowing the scriptures nor the power of God.

³⁰ utthaanapraaptaa lokaa na vivahanti, na ca vaacaa diiyante, kintvii"svarasya svargasthaduutaanaa.m sad.r"saa bhavanti|

³⁰ For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as angels of God in heaven.

³¹ apara.m m.rtaanaamutthaanamadhi yu.smaan pratiiyamii"svarokti.h,

³¹ Quanto à ressurreição dos mortos, não lestes o que Deus vos disse:

³⁷ Respondeu Jesus: Amarás o Senhor teu Deus de todo teu coração, de toda tua alma e de todo teu espírito {Dt 6,5}.

³⁸ e.saa prathamamahaaj naa| tasyaa.h sad.r"sii dvitiiyaaj nai.saa,

³⁸ Este é o maior e o primeiro mandamento.

³⁹ tava samiipavaasini svaatmaniiva prema kuru|

³⁹ E o segundo, semelhante a este, é: Amarás teu próximo como a ti mesmo {Lv 19,18}.

⁴² Que pensais vós de Cristo? De quem é filho? Responderam: De Davi!

⁴³ tadaa sa uktavaan, tarhi daayuud katham aatmaadhi.s.thaanena ta.m prabhu.m vadati ?

⁴³ Como então, prosseguiu Jesus, Davi, falando sob inspiração do Espírito, chama-o Senhor, dizendo:

⁴⁴ yathaa mama prabhumida.m vaakyamavadat parame"svara.h| tavaariin paadapii.tha.m te yaavannahi karomyaha.m| taavat kaala.m madiiye tva.m dak.sapaar"sva upaavi"sa| ato yadi daayuud ta.m prabhu.m vadati, rtiha sa katha.m tasya santaano bhavati?

⁴⁴ O Senhor disse a meu Senhor: Senta-te à minha direita, até que eu ponha teus inimigos por escabelo dos teus pés {Sl 109,1}?

⁴⁵ tadaanii.m te.saa.m kopi tadvaakyasya kimapyuttara.m daatu.m naa"saknot;

⁴⁵ Se, pois, Davi o chama Senhor, como é ele seu filho?

⁴⁶ taddinamaarabhya ta.m kimapi vaakya.m pra.s.tu.m kasyaapi saahaso naabhavat|

⁴⁶ Ninguém pôde responder-lhe nada. E, depois daquele dia, ninguém mais ousou interrogá-lo.
