1 Hear ye, this all ye peoples, Give ear, all ye inhabitants of this passing world;
1 Ouçam isto, todos os povos! Escutem, todos os habitantes da terra!
2 Both sons of the low, And sons of the high,Together both rich and needy:
2 Toda a humanidade, sem exceção, tanto ricos como pobres, prestem atenção!
3 My mouth, shall speak forth Wisdom, And the soft utterance of my heart be Understanding:
3 Pois minhas palavras são sábias, e meus pensamentos, cheios de entendimento.
4 I will bend, to a by-word, mine ear, I will open, on the lyre, mine enigma.
4 Ouço muitos provérbios com atenção e, ao som da harpa, explico enigmas.
5 Wherefore should I fear in the days of calamity, Though the iniquity of them who lie in wait for me should enclose me?
5 Por que terei medo quando vierem as dificuldades, quando inimigos perversos me cercarem?
6 As for them who are trusting in their wealth,And, in the abundance of their riches, do boast themselves,
6 Eles confiam em seus bens e contam vantagem de suas grandes riquezas.
7 A brother, can none of them, redeem, he cannot give unto God a ransom for himself:
7 Mas não são capazes de se redimir da morte e pagar um resgate a Deus.
8 So costly, is the redemption of their soul, That it faileth unto times age-abiding;
8 O preço para resgatar uma vida é altíssimo, e ninguém é capaz de pagar o suficiente
9 That he should, yet, live on, continually, Should not see corruption.
9 para viver para sempre e jamais ver a sepultura.
10 For it is seen that, the wise, die, Together with the dullard, and the brutish, do they perish, And leave, to others, their wealth:
10 Os sábios, no fim, morrerão, como os tolos e os ignorantes, que deixam toda a sua riqueza para trás.
11 Their, inward thought, is that their houses are for times age-biding, Their habitations, for generation after generation,They give their own names unto lands!
11 A sepultura é seu lar eterno, onde ficarão para sempre. Dão o próprio nome às suas terras,
12 But, a son of earth, though wealthy, cannot tarry, He hath made himself a by-wordBeasts, they resemble:
12 mas a sua fama não durará; como os animais, eles também morrerão.
13 This, their way, is a folly to them, And yet, their followers, with their mouth, approve. Selah.
13 Esse é o destino dos tolos, embora sejam admirados pelo que dizem. Interlúdio
14 Like sheepinto hades, are they driven, Death shall shepherd them,And the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning, Even their form, is to decay, Hades, is all that remaineth of a habitation for him.
14 Como ovelhas, são levados à sepultura, onde a morte será seu pastor. Pela manhã, os justos governarão sobre eles; seus corpos apodrecerão na sepultura, longe de suas grandes propriedades.
15 But, God, will redeem my soul, out of the hand of hades, For he will take me. Selah.
15 Quanto a mim, Deus resgatará minha vida e me livrará do poder da sepultura. Interlúdio
16 Do not fear, When a man becometh rich, When the glory of his house increaseth;
16 Portanto, não desanimem quando o perverso enriquecer e sua casa se tornar ainda mais luxuosa.
17 For, when he dieth, he shall take, nothing, his glory shall not descend after him;
17 Pois, quando morrer, nada levará consigo; sua riqueza não o acompanhará ao túmulo.
18 For, though, his own selfwhile he lived, he used to bless, And they will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself,
18 Nesta vida, ele se considera afortunado e é elogiado por seu sucesso.
19 He shall enter as far as the circle of his fathers, Nevermore, shall they see the light.
19 Contudo, morrerá como todos os seus antepassados e nunca mais voltará a ver a luz do dia.
20 A son of earth though wealthy, who discerneth not, Hath made himself a by-word, Beasts, they resemble.
20 Os que contam vantagem de suas riquezas nada entendem; como os animais, também morrerão.
