1 Hear ye, this all ye peoples, Give ear, all ye inhabitants of this passing world;
1 Povos, escutem bem isto! Ouçam, todos os moradores do mundo,
2 Both sons of the low, And sons of the high,Together both rich and needy:
2 tanto os poderosos como os humildes, tanto os ricos como os pobres!
3 My mouth, shall speak forth Wisdom, And the soft utterance of my heart be Understanding:
3 Os meus pensamentos serão claros; falarei palavras de sabedoria.
4 I will bend, to a by-word, mine ear, I will open, on the lyre, mine enigma.
4 Vou dar atenção aos provérbios e, enquanto toco a minha vou explicá-los.
5 Wherefore should I fear in the days of calamity, Though the iniquity of them who lie in wait for me should enclose me?
5 Eu não sinto medo nas horas de perigo, quando os meus inimigos me cercam.
6 As for them who are trusting in their wealth,And, in the abundance of their riches, do boast themselves,
6 Esses perversos confiam nas suas riquezas e se orgulham das suas grandes fortunas.
7 A brother, can none of them, redeem, he cannot give unto God a ransom for himself:
7 Mas ninguém pode salvar a si mesmo, nem pagar a Deus o preço da sua vida,
8 So costly, is the redemption of their soul, That it faileth unto times age-abiding;
8 pois não há dinheiro que pague a vida de alguém. Por mais dinheiro que uma pessoa tenha,
9 That he should, yet, live on, continually, Should not see corruption.
9 isso não garante que ela nunca vá morrer, que ela vá viver para sempre.
10 For it is seen that, the wise, die, Together with the dullard, and the brutish, do they perish, And leave, to others, their wealth:
10 Todo mundo vê que até os sábios morrem, e morrem também os tolos e os ignorantes. E todos deixam as suas riquezas para os outros.
11 Their, inward thought, is that their houses are for times age-biding, Their habitations, for generation after generation,They give their own names unto lands!
11 As suas sepulturas são os seus lares perpétuos, onde eles ficam para sempre, ainda que tenham possuído muitas terras.
12 But, a son of earth, though wealthy, cannot tarry, He hath made himself a by-wordBeasts, they resemble:
12 O ser humano, por mais importante que seja, não pode escapar da morte; como os animais morrem, ele também morre.
13 This, their way, is a folly to them, And yet, their followers, with their mouth, approve. Selah.
13 Reparem no que acontece com os que confiam em si mesmos; vejam o fim daqueles que estão satisfeitos com as suas riquezas.
14 Like sheepinto hades, are they driven, Death shall shepherd them,And the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning, Even their form, is to decay, Hades, is all that remaineth of a habitation for him.
14 O pastor deles — a morte — os leva, e eles são condenados a morrer como se fossem ovelhas. De manhã, as pessoas corretas os vencerão; os corpos deles apodrecerão na sepultura, longe dos seus lares.
15 But, God, will redeem my soul, out of the hand of hades, For he will take me. Selah.
15 Porém Deus me livrará do poder da morte, pois ele me receberá.
16 Do not fear, When a man becometh rich, When the glory of his house increaseth;
16 Não se preocupem quando alguém fica rico, e a sua riqueza aumenta cada vez mais.
17 For, when he dieth, he shall take, nothing, his glory shall not descend after him;
17 Pois, quando morrer, ele não poderá levar nada; a sua riqueza não irá com ele para a sepultura.
18 For, though, his own selfwhile he lived, he used to bless, And they will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself,
18 Ainda que esteja contente com a sua vida e seja elogiado por ter sucesso,
19 He shall enter as far as the circle of his fathers, Nevermore, shall they see the light.
19 ele, quando morrer, vai reunir-se com os seus antepassados no lugar onde a escuridão dura para sempre.
20 A son of earth though wealthy, who discerneth not, Hath made himself a by-word, Beasts, they resemble.
20 O ser humano, por mais importante que seja, não pode escapar da morte; como os animais morrem, ele também morre.
