¹ Beginning of the glad-message of Jesus Christ.

² According as it is written in Isaiah the prophetLo! I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way,

² Como está escrito no profeta Isaías: Eis que eu envio o meu anjo ante a tua face, o qual preparará o teu caminho diante de ti.

³ A voice of one crying aloudIn the wilderness, prepare ye the way of the Lord, straight, be making his paths.

³ Voz do que clama no deserto: Preparai o caminho do Senhor, endireitai as suas veredas.

⁴ John the Immerser came, in the wilderness, proclaiming an immersion of repentance for remission of sins;

⁴ Apareceu João batizando no deserto e pregando o batismo de arrependimento, para remissão de pecados.

⁵ and there were going out unto him all the Judaea country and all they of Jerusalem, and were being immersed by him in the Jordan river, openly confessing their sins;

⁵ E toda a província da Judeia e todos os habitantes de Jerusalém iam ter com ele; e todos eram batizados por ele no rio Jordão, confessando os seus pecados.

⁶ and John was clothed with camels-hair and a leathern girdle about his loins, and was eating locusts and wild honey;

⁶ E João andava vestido de pelos de camelo e com um cinto de couro em redor de seus lombos, e comia gafanhotos e mel silvestre,

⁷ and he proclaimed, sayingHe that is mightier than I cometh after me , of whom I am not worthy to stoop and unloose the strap of his sandals:

⁷ e pregava, dizendo: Após mim vem aquele que é mais forte do que eu, do qual não sou digno de, abaixando-me, desatar a correia das sandálias.

⁸ I, have immersed you, with water,He, will immerse you, with the Holy Spirit.

⁸ Eu, em verdade, tenho-vos batizado com água; ele, porém, vos batizará com o Espírito Santo.

⁹ And it came to pass, in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was immersed into the Jordan by John;

⁹ E aconteceu, naqueles dias, que Jesus, tendo ido de Nazaré, da Galileia, foi batizado por João, no rio Jordão.

¹⁰ And, straightway, as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens rending asunder, and, the Spirit, as a dove, descending unto him;

¹⁰ E, logo que saiu da água, viu os céus abertos e o Espírito, que, como pomba, descia sobre ele.

¹¹ and a voice came out of the heavensThou, art my Son, the Beloved,In thee, I delight.

¹¹ E ouviu-se uma voz dos céus, que dizia: Tu és o meu Filho amado, em quem me comprazo.

¹² And, straightway, the Spirit urgeth him forth into the wilderness;

¹² E logo o Espírito o impeliu para o deserto.

¹³ and he was in the wilderness, forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts,and, the messengers, were ministering unto him.

¹³ E ali esteve no deserto quarenta dias, tentado por Satanás. E vivia entre as feras, e os anjos o serviam.

¹⁴ And after John was delivered up, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the glad-message of God,

¹⁴ E, depois que João foi entregue à prisão, veio Jesus para a Galileia, pregando o evangelho do Reino de Deus

¹⁵ and saying The season is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God hath drawn near,Repent ye, and have faith in the glad-message.

¹⁵ e dizendo: O tempo está cumprido, e o Reino de Deus está próximo. Arrependei-vos e crede no evangelho.

¹⁶ And, passing by near the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon, and Andrew the brother of Simon, casting a net in the sea,for they were fishers;

¹⁶ E, andando junto ao mar da Galileia, viu Simão e André, seu irmão, que lançavam a rede ao mar, pois eram pescadores.

¹⁷ and Jesus said unto themCome after me, and I will make you become fishers of men;

¹⁷ E Jesus lhes disse: Vinde após mim, e eu farei que sejais pescadores de homens.

¹⁸ and, straightway, leaving the nets, they followed him.

¹⁸ E, deixando logo as suas redes, o seguiram.

¹⁹ And, going forward a little, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, and them who were in the boat putting in order the nets;

¹⁹ E, passando dali um pouco mais adiante, viu Tiago, filho de Zebedeu, e João, seu irmão, que estavam no barco consertando as redes,

²⁰ and, straightway, he called them,and, leaving their father Zebedee in the boat, with the hired men, they came away after him.

²⁰ e logo os chamou. E eles, deixando o seu pai Zebedeu no barco com os empregados, foram após ele.

²¹ And they journey into Capernaum. And, straightway, on the Sabbath, entering into the synagogue, he began teaching;

²¹ Entraram em Cafarnaum, e, logo no sábado, indo ele à sinagoga, ali ensinava.

²² and they were being struck with astonishment at his teaching,for he was teaching them as one having authority, and, not as the Scribes.

²² E maravilharam-se da sua doutrina, porque os ensinava como tendo autoridade e não como os escribas.

²³ And, straightway, there was in their synagogue, a man in an impure spirit,and he cried out aloud,

²³ E estava na sinagoga deles um homem com um espírito imundo, o qual exclamou, dizendo:

²⁴ sayingWhat have we in common with thee, Jesus of Nazareth? Hast thou come to destroy us? I know thee, who thou art, The Holy One of God.

²⁴ Ah! Que temos contigo, Jesus Nazareno? Vieste destruir-nos? Bem sei quem és: o Santo de Deus.

²⁵ And Jesus rebuked him, saying Be silenced, and come forth out of him!

²⁵ E repreendeu-o Jesus, dizendo: Cala-te e sai dele.

²⁶ And the impure spirit, tearing him, and calling out with a loud voice, came forth out of him;

²⁶ Então, o espírito imundo, agitando-o e clamando com grande voz, saiu dele.

²⁷ and they were amazed, one and all, so that they began to discuss among themselves, sayingWhat is this? New teaching! With authority, to the impure spirits also, he giveth orders, and they obey him!

²⁷ E todos se admiraram, a ponto de perguntarem entre si, dizendo: Que é isto? Que nova doutrina é esta? Pois com autoridade ordena aos espíritos imundos, e eles lhe obedecem!

²⁸ And forth went the report of him, straightway, on every hand, into the surrounding country of Galilee.

²⁸ E logo correu a sua fama por toda a província da Galileia.

²⁹ And, straightway, out of the synagogue, going forth, he went unto the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

²⁹ E logo, saindo da sinagoga, foram à casa de Simão e de André, com Tiago e João.

³⁰ Now, the mother-in-law of Simon, was lying in a fever, and, straightway, they speak to him concerning her;

³⁰ E a sogra de Simão estava deitada, com febre; e logo lhe falaram dela.

³¹ and, coming near, he raised her up, grasping her hand,and the fever left her, and she began ministering unto them.

³¹ Então, chegando-se a ela, tomou-a pela mão e levantou-a; e a febre a deixou, e servia-os.

³² And, evening arriving, when the sun went in, they were bearing unto him all who were sick, and them who were demonized;

³² E, tendo chegado a tarde, quando já estava se pondo o sol, trouxeram-lhe todos os que se achavam enfermos e os endemoninhados.

³³ and all the city was gathered unto the door;

³³ E toda a cidade se ajuntou à porta.

³⁴ and he cured many that were sick with divers diseases, and, many demons, he cast out, and suffered not the demons to be talking,because they knew him to be Christ .

³⁴ E curou muitos que se achavam enfermos de diversas enfermidades e expulsou muitos demônios, porém não deixava falar os demônios, porque o conheciam.

³⁵ And, very early by night arising, he went out and departed into a desert place, and, there, was praying;

³⁵ E, levantando-se de manhã muito cedo, estando ainda escuro, saiu, e foi para um lugar deserto, e ali orava.

³⁶ and Simon, and they who were with him, went in quest of him,

³⁶ E seguiram-no Simão e os que com ele estavam.

³⁷ and found him, and say unto himAll, are seeking thee;

³⁷ E, achando-o, lhe disseram: Todos te buscam.

³⁸ and he saith unto themLet us be going elsewhere, into the neighbouring country-towns, in order that, there also, I may be making proclamation,for, to this end, came I forth;

³⁸ E ele lhes disse: Vamos às aldeias vizinhas, para que eu ali também pregue, porque para isso vim.

³⁹ and he came, making proclamation, into their synagogues, throughout the whole of Galilee,and, was casting the demons out.

³⁹ E pregava nas sinagogas deles, por toda a Galileia, e expulsava os demônios.

⁴⁰ And there cometh unto him, a leper, beseeching him and kneeling ,saying unto himIf thou be willing, thou canst cleanse me;

⁴⁰ E aproximou-se dele um leproso, que, rogando-lhe e pondo-se de joelhos diante dele, lhe dizia: Se queres, bem podes limpar-me.

⁴¹ and, moved with compassion, he stretched forth the hand, and touched him, and saith unto himI am willing, Be cleansed!

⁴¹ E Jesus, movido de grande compaixão, estendeu a mão, e tocou-o, e disse-lhe: Quero, sê limpo!

⁴² and, straightway, the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed;

⁴² E, tendo ele dito isso, logo a lepra desapareceu, e ficou limpo.

⁴³ and, strictly charging him, straightway, he urged him forth;

⁴³ E, advertindo-o severamente, logo o despediu.

⁴⁴ and saith unto himMind! unto no one, say aught,but withdraw, thyself, show unto the priest, and offer for thy cleansing what things Moses enjoined, for a witness unto them.

⁴⁴ E disse-lhe: Olha, não digas nada a ninguém; porém vai, mostra-te ao sacerdote e oferece pela tua purificação o que Moisés determinou, para lhes servir de testemunho.

⁴⁵ But, he, going forth, began to be proclaiming many things, and blazing abroad the story, so that, no longer, was it possible for him, openly, into a city, to enter,but, outside, in desert places, was he , and they were coming unto him from every quarter.

⁴⁵ Mas, tendo ele saído, começou a apregoar muitas coisas e a divulgar o que acontecera; de sorte que Jesus já não podia entrar publicamente na cidade, mas conservava-se fora em lugares desertos; e de todas as partes iam ter com ele.
