1 And it came to pass, when he entered into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees, on a Sabbath, to eat bread, that, they, were narrowly watching him.
1 Num sábado, Jesus entrou na casa de certo líder fariseu para tomar uma refeição. E as pessoas que estavam ali olhavam para Jesus com muita atenção.
2 And lo! there was, a certain man, who had the dropsy, before him.
2 Um homem, com as pernas e os braços inchados, chegou perto dele.
3 And Jesus, answering, spake unto the Lawyers and Pharisees, sayingIs it allowed, on the Sabbath, to cure, or not? But, they, held their peace.
3 E Jesus perguntou aos mestres da Lei e aos fariseus:
4 And taking hold he healed and dismissed him,
4 Mas eles não responderam nada. Então Jesus pegou o homem, curou-o e o mandou embora.
5 and, unto them, saidWhich of you, shall have a son or an ox that, into a pit, shall fall, and will not straightway pull him up, on the day of rest?
5 Aí disse:
6 And they could not return an answer unto these things.
6 E eles não puderam responder.
7 And he went on to speak, unto the invited, a parable,observing how, the first couches, they were choosing; saying unto them
7 Certa vez Jesus estava reparando como os convidados escolhiam os melhores lugares à mesa. Então fez esta comparação:
8 Whensoever thou hast been invited by anyone unto a marriage feast, do not recline on the first couch; lest once, a more honourable than thou, have been invited by him,
8 — Quando alguém convidá-lo para uma festa de casamento, não sente no melhor lugar. Porque pode ser que alguém mais importante tenha sido convidado.
9 and he that invited both thee and him should come, and say unto theeGive, unto this one, place! and, then, thou shouldst begin, with shame, the last place, to occupy.
9 Então quem convidou você e o outro poderá dizer a você: “Dê esse lugar para este aqui.” Aí você ficará envergonhado e terá de sentar-se no último lugar.
10 But, whensoever thou hast been invited, pass on and fall back into the last place, that, whensoever he that hath invited thee shall come, he may say unto theeFriend! come close up, higher. Then, shalt thou have honour before all who are reclining together with thee.
10 Pelo contrário, quando você for convidado, sente-se no último lugar. Assim quem o convidou vai dizer a você: “Meu amigo, venha sentar-se aqui num lugar melhor.” E isso será uma grande honra para você diante de todos os convidados.
11 Because, everyone who exalteth himself, shall be abased; and, he that abaseth himself, shall be exalted?
11 Porque quem se engrandece será humilhado, mas quem se humilha será engrandecido.
12 Moreover he went on to say, unto him also who had invited him,Whensoever thou mayest be making a dinner or a supper, do not call thy friends, or thy brothers, or thy kinsfolk, or rich neighbours,lest once, they also, invite thee in return, and it become a recompense unto thee.
12 Depois Jesus disse ao homem que o havia convidado:
13 But, whensoever, an entertainment, thou mayest be making, invite the destitute, the tried, the lame, the blind;
13 Mas, quando você der uma festa, convide os pobres, os aleijados, os coxos e os cegos
14 and, happy, shalt thou be, that they have not wherewith to recompense thee, for it shall be recompensed unto thee, in the resurrection of the righteous.
14 e você será abençoado. Pois eles não poderão pagar o que você fez, mas Deus lhe pagará no dia em que as pessoas que fazem o bem ressuscitarem.
15 And one of those reclining together, hearing these things, said unto himHappy, whoever shall eat bread in the kingdom of God!
15 Um dos que estavam à mesa ouviu isso e disse para Jesus: — Felizes os que irão sentar-se à mesa no
16 But, he, said unto himA certain man, was making a great supper, and invited many;
16 Então Jesus lhe disse:
17 and he sent out his servant, at the hour of the supper, to say unto the invitedBe coming! because, even now, is it, ready.
17 Quando chegou a hora, mandou o seu empregado dizer aos convidados: “Venham, que tudo já está pronto!”
18 And they all began, one after another to excuse themselves. The first, said unto himA field, have I bought, and have need to go out and see it: I request thee, hold me excused.
18 — Mas eles, um por um, começaram a dar desculpas. O primeiro disse ao empregado: “Comprei um sítio e tenho de dar uma olhada nele. Peço que me desculpe.”
19 And, another, saidFive yoke of oxen, have I bought, and am going my way to prove them; I request thee, hold me excused.
19 — Outro disse: “Comprei cinco juntas de bois e preciso ver se trabalham bem. Peço que me desculpe.”
20 And, another, saidA wife, have I married, and, for this cause, I cannot come!
20 — E outro disse: “Acabei de casar e por isso não posso ir.”
21 And, going near, the servant reported unto his lord these things. Then, provoked to anger, the master of the house said unto his servantGo out quickly, into the broadways and streets of the city,and, the destitute, and tried, and blind, and lame, bring thou in here.
21 — O empregado voltou e contou tudo ao patrão. Ele ficou com muita raiva e disse: “Vá depressa pelas ruas e pelos becos da cidade e traga os pobres, os aleijados, os cegos e os coxos.”
22 And the servant saidLord! what thou didst order, hath been done; and, yet, there is, room.
22 — Mais tarde o empregado disse: “Patrão, já fiz o que o senhor mandou, mas ainda está sobrando lugar.”
23 And the lord said unto the servantGo out among the highways and fences, and compel them to come in; that my house may be filled.
23 — Aí o patrão respondeu: “Então vá pelas estradas e pelos caminhos e obrigue os que você encontrar ali a virem, a fim de que a minha casa fique cheia.
24 For, I say unto youNot one of those men who had been invited, shall taste of my supper.
24 Pois eu afirmo a vocês que nenhum dos que foram convidados provará o meu jantar!”
25 And there were journeying together with him many multitudes; and, turning, he said unto them
25 Certa vez uma grande multidão estava acompanhando Jesus. Ele virou-se para eles e disse:
26 If anyone cometh unto me, and hateth not his own father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers, and sisters, further also, even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.
26 — Quem quiser me acompanhar não pode ser meu seguidor se não me amar mais do que ama o seu pai, a sua mãe, a sua esposa, os seus filhos, os seus irmãos, as suas irmãs e até a si mesmo.
27 Whoever beareth not his own cross, and cometh after me, cannot be my disciple.
27 Não pode ser meu seguidor quem não estiver pronto para morrer como eu vou morrer e me acompanhar.
28 For, who from among you, wishing to build a tower, doth not first sit down and count the cost,whether he hath sufficient for completion;
28 Se um de vocês quer construir uma torre , primeiro senta e calcula quanto vai custar, para ver se o dinheiro dá.
29 lest once, he having laid a foundation, and not being able to finish, all who are looking on, should begin to mock at him,
29 Se não fizer isso, ele consegue colocar os alicerces, mas não pode terminar a construção. Aí todos os que virem o que aconteceu vão caçoar dele, dizendo:
30 sayingThis man, began to build, and was not able to finish!
30 “Este homem começou a construir, mas não pôde terminar!”
31 Or, what king, moving on to encounter, another king, in battle, will not sit down first and take counsel, whether he is able, with ten thousand, to meet him who, with twenty thousand, is coming against him.
31 — Se um rei que tem dez mil soldados vai partir para combater outro que vem contra ele com vinte mil, ele senta primeiro e vê se está bastante forte para enfrentar o outro.
32 And, if not, by any means, while he is yet afar off, he sendeth, an embassy, and requesteth the conditions of peace.
32 Se não fizer isso, acabará precisando mandar mensageiros ao outro rei, enquanto este ainda estiver longe, para combinar condições de paz. Jesus terminou, dizendo:
33 Thus, therefore, everyone from amongst you, who doth not bid adieu unto all his own possessions, cannot be my disciple.
33 — Assim nenhum de vocês pode ser meu discípulo se não deixar tudo o que tem.
34 Good, therefore is the salt; but, if, even the salt, become tasteless, wherewith shall it be seasoned?
34 — O sal é uma coisa útil; mas, se perde o gosto, deixa de ser sal.
35 Neither for land nor for manure, is it, fit: outside, they cast it! He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
35 É jogado fora, pois não serve mais nem para a terra nem para o monte de esterco. Se vocês têm ouvidos para ouvirem, então ouçam.
