1 Then came the word of Yahweh unto Jonah, the second time, saying:
1 E a palavra do SENHOR veio a Jonas pela segunda vez, dizendo:
2 Arise, get thee unto Nineveh, the great city,and cry against it the cry that I am bidding thee.
2 Levanta-te, vai à Nínive, aquela grande cidade, e prega contra ela a mensagem que eu te ofereço.
3 So Jonah arose, and went his way unto Nineveh, according to the word of Yahweh,Nineveh, being a city great before God, of three days journey.
3 Então Jonas se levantou, e foi a Nínive, segundo a palavra do SENHOR. Ora, Nínive era uma cidade muito grande, de três dias de jornada.
4 So Jonah began to enter into the city, one days journey,and he cried out and saidYet forty days, and, Nineveh, is to be overthrown!
4 E Jonas começou a entrar pela cidade jornada de um dia, e clamava, dizendo: ainda quarenta dias, e Nínive será derrubada.
5 And the people of Nineveh believed in God,and proclaimed a fast, and clothed themselves in sackcloth, from the greatest of them, even unto the least of them.
5 Assim as pessoas de Nínive creram em Deus, e proclamaram um jejum, e vestiram-se de pano de saco, desde o maior até ao menor.
6 And the word reached unto the king of Nineveh, so he arose from his throne, and laid aside his robe from off him,and covered him with sackcloth, and sat on ashes.
6 Assim, pois, a palavra chegou ao rei de Nínive; e ele levantou-se do seu trono, tirou de si as suas vestes, cobriu-se de pano de saco, e sentou-se sobre a cinza.
7 And he caused an outcry to be madeand saidthroughout Nineveh, By decree of the king and of his great men, Be it known:Man and beast, herd and flock, Let them taste, nothing, let them not feed, and, water, let them not drink:
7 E ele fez com que isso fosse proclamado e divulgado através de Nínive, pelo decreto do rei e dos seus nobres, dizendo: nem homens, nem animais, nem bois, nem ovelhas provem coisa alguma; nem se lhes dê alimentos, nem bebam água;
8 Let both man and beast, cover themselves with sackcloth, and let them cry unto God, mightily,Yea let them turn, every man from his wicked way, and from the violence which is in their hands:
8 mas os homens e os animais sejam cobertos de pano de saco, e clamem poderosamente a Deus; sim, convertam-se, cada um do seu caminho mal, e da violência que está nas suas mãos.
9 Who knoweth whether God himselfmay turn and grieve,and turn away from the glow of his anger, that we perish not?
9 Quem pode dizer se Deus voltará e se arrependerá, e se apartará do furor da sua ira, para que nós não pereçamos?
10 And God saw their doings, that they turned from their wicked way,and God was grieved over the calamity which he had spoken of executing upon them, and executed it not.
10 E Deus viu as suas obras, como se desviaram do seu mau caminho; e Deus se arrependeu do mal que tinha anunciado que faria a eles, e não o fez.
