1 And there went a man of the house of Levi,and took a laughter of Levi.
1 Por essa época, um homem e uma mulher da tribo de Levi se casaram.
2 And the woman conceived and bare a son,and she saw him, that he was a goodly child, so she hid him three months.
2 A mulher engravidou e deu à luz um menino. Viu que era um lindo bebê e o escondeu por três meses.
3 And when she could no longer hide him, she took for him an ark of paper-reed, and covered it over with bitumen, and with pitch,and put therein the child, and laid it among the rushes upon the bank of the river.
3 Quando não conseguia mais escondê-lo, pegou um cesto feito de juncos de papiro e o revestiu com betume e piche. Acomodou o bebê no cesto e o colocou entre os juncos, à margem do rio Nilo.
4 Then did his sister station herself at a distance,to see what would be done to him.
4 A irmã do bebê ficou observando a certa distância, para ver o que lhe aconteceria.
5 So then the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe by the river, and her, maidens, were walking by the side of the river,when she saw the ark in the midst of the rushes, and sent her handmaid, and fetched it.
5 Pouco depois, a filha do faraó desceu ao Nilo para tomar banho, e suas servas foram caminhar pela margem do rio. Quando a princesa viu o cesto entre os juncos, mandou sua serva buscá-lo.
6 And she opened and beheld iteven the child, and lo! a boy weeping,so she took pity on him, and said, Of the children of the Hebrews, is this.
6 Ao abrir o cesto, a princesa viu o bebê. O menino chorava, e ela sentiu pena dele. “Deve ser um dos meninos hebreus”, disse ela.
7 Then said his sister unto Pharaohs daughter, Shall I go and call thee a nurse, of the Hebrew women,that she may nurse for thee the child?
7 Então a irmã do menino se aproximou e perguntou à princesa: “A senhora quer que eu chame uma mulher hebreia para amamentar o bebê?”.
8 And Pharaohs daughter said to herGo. So the maid went, and called the mother of the child.
8 “Quero”, respondeu a princesa. A moça foi e chamou a mãe do bebê.
9 And Pharaohs daughter said to herTake this child, and nurse it for me, and, I, will give thee thy wages. So the woman took the child, and nursed it.
9 A princesa disse à mãe do bebê: “Leve este menino e amamente-o para mim. Eu pagarei por sua ajuda”. A mulher levou o bebê para casa e o amamentou.
10 And the child grew, and she brought him in to Pharaohs daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses, and saidFor out of the water, I drew him.
10 Quando o menino cresceu, ela o levou de volta à filha do faraó, que o adotou como seu próprio filho. A princesa o chamou de Moisés, pois disse: “Eu o tirei da água”.
11 And it came to pass in those days when Moses grew up, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens,and saw, an Egyptian smiting a Hebrewof his brethren,
11 Anos depois, já adulto, Moisés foi visitar seu povo e descobriu que eles eram forçados a realizar trabalhos pesados. Durante sua visita, viu um egípcio espancar um hebreu, um homem de seu povo.
12 So he turned this way and that, and when he saw that there was no man, he smote the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.
12 Olhou para todos os lados e, não avistando ninguém por perto, matou o egípcio. Em seguida, escondeu o corpo na areia.
13 And he went out on the second day, and lo! two Hebrews, striving together,so he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore shouldest thou smite thy fellow?
13 No dia seguinte, quando Moisés saiu novamente para visitar seu povo, viu dois hebreus brigando. “Por que você está espancando seu amigo?”, perguntou Moisés ao que havia começado a briga.
14 And he saidWho hath set thee for a chief and a judge over us? To slay me, art thou thinking, as thou didst slay the Egyptian? Then was Moses afraid, and saidSurely the thing is, known!
14 O homem respondeu: “Quem o nomeou nosso príncipe e juiz? Vai me matar como matou o egípcio?”. Moisés teve medo e pensou: “Com certeza todos já sabem o que aconteceu!”.
15 So Pharaoh heard this thing, and sought to slay Moses,and Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian and sat down by the well.
15 E, de fato, o faraó tomou conhecimento do que havia acontecido e tentou matar Moisés, mas ele fugiu e foi morar na terra de Midiã. Quando chegou a Midiã, estabeleceu-se junto a um poço.
16 Now, the priest of Midian, had seven daughters,and they came and drew and filled the troughs, to water their fathers flock.
16 O sacerdote de Midiã tinha sete filhas, que foram ao poço tirar água e encher os bebedouros para o rebanho de seu pai.
17 Then came the shepherds, and drave them away,so Moses rose up, and succoured them, and watered their flock,
17 Então alguns pastores chegaram e as expulsaram de lá. Moisés, porém, defendeu as moças e tirou água para o rebanho delas.
18 Then came they in unto Reuel their father,and he said, Wherefore have ye so early come in to-day?
18 Quando as moças voltaram para seu pai, Reuel, ele lhes perguntou: “Por que voltaram tão cedo hoje?”.
19 And they said, An Egyptian, delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds,Moreover also he drew, for us, and watered the flock.
19 Elas responderam: “Um egípcio nos defendeu dos pastores; depois, tirou água e deu de beber ao nosso rebanho”.
20 And he said unto his daughtersAnd where is he? wherefore is it that ye left the man? Call him that he may eat bread.
20 “E onde está ele?”, perguntou o pai. “Por que o deixaram lá? Convidem-no para comer conosco.”
21 And Moses was well-pleased to dwell with the man,and he gave Zipporah his daughter to Moses.
21 Moisés aceitou o convite e foi morar com Reuel. Depois de algum tempo, Reuel entregou sua filha Zípora em casamento a Moisés.
22 And she bare a son, and he called his name Gershom,for he said, A, sojourner, I am, in a strange land.
22 Mais tarde, ela deu à luz um menino, a quem Moisés chamou de Gérson, pois disse: “Sou forasteiro em terra alheia”.
23 And it came to pass, during those many days, that the king of Egypt died, and the sons of Israel sighed by reason of the servitude and lamented,and their cry for help went up to God, by reason of the servitude.
23 Depois de muitos anos, o rei do Egito morreu. Os israelitas, porém, continuavam a gemer sob o peso da escravidão. Clamaram por socorro, e seu clamor subiu até Deus.
24 And God heard their groaning,and God remembered his covenant, with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob;
24 Ele ouviu os gemidos e se lembrou da aliança que havia feito com Abraão, Isaque e Jacó.
25 so then, God looked upon the sons of Israel,and God regarded.
25 Olhou para os israelitas e percebeu sua necessidade.
