1 Dead flies, cause to stink ferment, the oil of the perfumer,More costly than wisdom or honour, is a little folly.
1 Assim como a mosca morta produz mau cheiro e estraga o perfume, também um pouco de insensatez pesa mais que a sabedoria e a honra.
2 The sense of the wise, is on his right hand,But, the sense of the dullard, on his left:
2 O coração do sábio se inclina para o bem, mas o coração do tolo, para o mal.
3 Yea, even by the way, as the foolish man walketh along, his sense faileth himand he telleth everyone that, foolish, is he!
3 Mesmo quando anda pelo caminho, o tolo age sem o mínimo bom senso e mostra a todos que não passa de um tolo.
4 If, the spirit of a ruler, riseth up against thee, thy place, do not leave, for gentleness, pacifieth such as have greatly erred.
4 Se a ira de uma autoridade se levantar contra você, não abandone o seu posto; a tranqüilidade evita grandes erros.
5 Here was a misfortune I had seen under the sun,a veritable mistake that was going forth from the presence of one who had power:
5 Há outro mal que vi debaixo do sol, um erro cometido pelos que governam:
6 Folly placed in great dignity,while, the rich, in a low place, took their seat:
6 Tolos são postos em cargos elevados, enquanto ricos ocupam cargos inferiores.
7 I had seen, servants, upon horses,and, rulers, walking like servants, on the ground.
7 Tenho visto servos andando a cavalo, e príncipes andando a pé, como servos.
8 He that diggeth a pit, thereinto, may fall,and, he that breaketh through a hedge, there may bite him a serpent.
8 Quem cava um poço cairá nele; quem derruba um muro será picado por uma cobra.
9 He that removeth stones, may be hurt therewith,and he that cleaveth wood, may be endangered thereby.
9 Quem arranca pedras, com elas se ferirá; quem racha lenha se arrisca.
10 If, blunt, be the iron, and, himself, hath not sharpened, the edge, then, much force, must he apply,but, an advantage for giving success, is wisdom.
10 Se o machado está cego e sua lâmina não foi afiada, é preciso golpear com mais força; agir com sabedoria assegura o sucesso.
11 If a serpent will bite, unless he is charmed, then there is nothing better for him that owneth a tongue.
11 Se a cobra morder antes de ser encantada, para que servirá o encantador?
12 The words of a wise mans mouth, are pleasant,but, the lips of a dullard, will swallow him up:
12 As palavras do sábio lhe trazem benefícios, mas os lábios do insensato o destroem.
13 The beginning of the words of his mouth, is folly,but, the latter end of his speech, is mischievous madness.
13 No início as suas palavras são mera tolice, mas no final são loucura perversa.
14 Yet, a foolish man, multiplieth words, no man knoweth that which hath been, and, that which shall be after him, who can tell him?
14 Embora o tolo fale sem parar, ninguém sabe o que está para vir; quem poderá dizer a outrem o que lhe acontecerá depois?
15 The toil of dullards, shall weary a man, that he knoweth not how to go into the city.
15 O trabalho do tolo o deixa tão exausto que ele nem consegue achar o caminho de casa.
16 Alas! for thee, O land, when thy king is a boy,and, thy rulers, in the morning, do eat:
16 Pobre da terra cujo rei é jovem demais e cujos líderes fazem banquetes logo de manhã.
17 How happy art thou, O land, when thy king is a son of nobles,and, thy rulers, in season, do eat, for strength, and not for debauchery.
17 Feliz é a terra cujo rei é de origem nobre, e cujos líderes comem no devido tempo, para recuperar as forças, e não para embriagar-se.
18 By two lazy arms, the framework sinketh in,and, by the hanging down of the hands, the house may leak.
18 Por causa da preguiça, o telhado se enverga; por causa das mãos indolentes, a casa tem goteiras.
19 Merrily people make bread, and, wine, gladdeneth life,but, money, answereth all things.
19 O banquete é feito para divertir, e o vinho torna a vida alegre, mas isso tudo se paga com dinheiro.
20 Even in thy thought, do not revile, the king, nor, within thy bed-chambers, revile thou the rich,for, a bird of the heavens, might carry the voice, yea, an owner of wings, might tell the matter.
20 Nem em pensamento insulte o rei! Nem mesmo em seu quarto amaldiçoe o rico! Porque uma ave do céu poderá levar as suas palavras, e seres alados poderão divulgar o que você disser.
